NBA · NEW ORLEANS HORNETS !! (page 2)

ARES @ 6/11/2003 10:32 AM
playa as usual you miss the point. obvious there are some deserving black Gm executives and coaches working in the NBA. some who are doing a excellent Job some mediocre.

the point Myron on the Good ole boy network is white coaches getting return trips to coach 3 or 4 unsucessful times while qualified non whites get passed over. they get negative media tags like Kareem and are disqualified before even getting a interview. some times blacks can exagerrate in this matter, but I am no al sharpton, I want a Qualified White black it dont matter. Non you mentioned blacks are not getting thrown in to no win situautions, butch beard alvin gentry, and non other than Don CHANEY (your favorite coach) AND the POINT myron is that once you have a unsuccessful shot at coaching as a black you are tagged and highly unlikely to get a second shot as some beleive the new hornet coach DESERVES. the key word myron in case it flew past you MR Shirt and TIE is DESERVE. The nFL is the absolute worst, Dennis Erickson gets a job before Dennis Green and Jim mora before Art Shell is nuts.

At the end of the Day playa you named what 6 guys?? with what 100 positions? coaches gm's etc, with 90 pct of the playas are black, do the math how many coaches that are black never played? do the math

I'm not al sharpton black or white quailfeid
"people" should get the job, i dunno about the new hornet coach, but ed tapscot who is black, who YOU love should never be in any NBA job EVER again
ARES @ 6/11/2003 10:35 AM
i agree Rain, good post
i guess what i'm mainly trying to ask, black or white lets forget that for a second. This floyd guy. why is he the man for the job, getting a raw deal in chicago is not reason to hire someone.
KARNIVORE @ 6/11/2003 10:40 AM
we are talking about retread white coaches in sports !!! Look what they did to DUNGY, ART SHELL, look how many years it took PAUL SILAS to get a coaching job again, 15yrs !!! EDDIE JORDAN can't get a job !!! READ MY QUOTE AT THE BOTTOM !!!
Pike @ 6/11/2003 11:33 AM
I told you K... Eddie Jordan will end up with the (hapless) Hawks job.
Not a good job but, a job nonetheless...
Pike @ 6/11/2003 11:36 AM
... Blacks not getting a fair shake getting coaching jobs is much more of a problem in the NFL and MLB. Frankly, I don't see a problem in the NBA.
ARES @ 6/11/2003 12:04 PM
no one asked and no one cares
i see it as a problem especially when retreads keep getting jobs over guys like eddie jordan.
Don't patronize me with 6 guys having a nba jobs now you are saying there is no problem.
Just like most of the players in the league are black ,it's not because they are Black, it's becuase they are qualified. so Qualified black coaches should not be passed over for underqualifed retreads like Tim Floyd.
Maybe thats not a problem to you, maybe you got a silver spoon, support nepotism or what ever i don't know
i dont think so knowing you, but i am still waiting for someone to tell me why floyd is qualified.
prodson @ 6/11/2003 12:11 PM
wow. good conversations
Pike @ 6/11/2003 12:15 PM
I keep telling you but, either you don't read my posts or you refuse to let it sink in... Floyd was a very successful college coach at Iowa State and was put in a situation in which it was IMPOSSIBLE to succeed. Chandler and Curry weren't ready to play at Duke, let alone the NBA... with Krause's youth move. Once they got a little experience under their belts, they fired him. The Chicago job was not in any way a test of his coaching abilities... and as Rain pointed out yesterday, you can't call a guy a retread under these circumstances... and your, "they won four in a row with Cartwright"... means absolutely nothing.

Brian Hill, Del Harris... now those would be considered retreads...
playa2 @ 6/11/2003 12:34 PM
Let's judge Floyd after his tenure in Newawlins, see if the players play for him or tune him out, then we all will know.
ARES @ 6/11/2003 12:52 PM
I dont remember floyd being VERY sucessful pike, come on man
Pike @ 6/11/2003 1:29 PM
... something tells me you weren't following the Iowa State basketball program under Floyd too closely.

Funny, you give a guy who is 40-190 the benefit of the doubt but a guy who is successful and makes the playoffs every year as a head coach, you want to bury!

It is always the second job a coach gets that proves his worth.

Pike @ 6/11/2003 1:49 PM
Gony, it was funny to read the GM of Houston talk about "how much competition" there was for Jeff Van Gundy... then I think about Playa's rhetoric. lol
KARNIVORE @ 6/11/2003 2:00 PM
TIM FLOYD also coached TULANE & was fired before he got to IOWA STATE
lol..... oh, u forgot to mention that !!! lol..... PLAYA is crazy !!!
ARES @ 6/11/2003 2:08 PM
something tells me you WERENT fololowing it too closely, first of all it's a bullsheet conference, he one the conference once, and made it to the second round twice. name the last time a team from the big 12 won the ncaa. yeah i thought so. thanks for playing
Pike @ 6/11/2003 2:12 PM
... ugh, almost this year. With Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas... the conference you refer to was the strongest in the nation last year.
Pike @ 6/11/2003 2:15 PM
Look, this keeps up, some are going to think I actually give a s**t about Floyd... all I was saying is, he ain't a retread, had ZERO chance in Chicago and I don't see blacks at a disadvantage for coaching jobs in the NBA like in other sports. That's what I believe... deal with it.

on top of that he loss 190 games with the bulls, he had time, it's not like he loss 50 games and got booted in one season. you keep talking of curry and chandler, did't he start with brand. I guess it's a players league huh pike? I don't understand how this guy gets the job best team with vacancies outside of philly, and don't tell me about a bullsheet 4 year college record where he did basically nothing. Tubby Smith LarY izzo Arizona's coach these are great "SUCESSFUL" college coaches. Floyd did nothing close.
Pike @ 6/11/2003 2:20 PM
Whatever, hang the guy... we'll see how he does in New Orleans... geez, I actually agree with something Playa said, I gotta rethink my position.

p.s. successful has two c's.

Sometimes in this world it who you know not what you have done. He needs a chance with a veteran team lets see what he can do. He took over a rebuilding team in the bulls and they started from scratch. I'm curious to see if Floyd helped the young bulls or kept them down. This will be a great example. If the hornet bite the dust then everyone will know it was Floyd and not just the young bulls. If he does well and takes them into the playoffs he is off the hook.

I never asked for your damn opinion in the first place. I put my opinion up here that he is a retread, and if YOU cant deaL with it Too bad. 190 losses second Job in the NBA RETREAD PERIOD, 6 black coaches in a league where 90 pct of the players are BLACK Disadavatange PERIOD. you don't like to hear me say it, then don't read it.

You sounding like you want to tell me the copout, aint enough blacks qualified or applying thats why it's not a problem. is that the case?
