December 18, 2007 - 5:17 pm
New York Daily News -
About three hours after Charles Oakley turned 44, Georgia cops busted him for driving under the influence early Tuesday.
The former NBA All-Star was also cited for failure to maintain a lane after cops spotted Oakley driving his 2008 Range Rover erratically north of Atlanta, according to Auburn, Ga. police department documents posted on The Smoking Gun web site.
Oakley, whom cops described as "cooperative," spent three hours in the Gwinnett County lockup before he posted bond.

Everyone takes a little nip every now and then but not behind the wheel. I'm glad he is safe.

Just another bad example of a human being. All the money in the world and once again, another fool risks it all. Why, why, why???

No, he's right. Drunk drivers are morons. They risk people's lives for no reason, as well as their own. Such behavior is terrible. It's a stronger indicator of character than you might think at first.
Not to mention how stupid it is. You know you're going to get caught.
Was Oak smart at any point? I don't think so.
By the way how much you should drink to start driving erratically?
Back in Russia I saw a lot of people who was unable to walk, but was driving nice, straight, and steady.
But Russians are another story...

I have empathy for the person if he has a serious alcohol problem that he needs help with. But a car is a deadly weapon and Oakley put many innocent lives in danger.

Do we have to wait for him to be killed to speak up (without being accused of being a 'little too harsh'?)?
Anyone who drinks and drives is an asshole. Plain and simple. You can have an alcohol problem and still get a cab.

I was driving on the NJ Turnpike and was hit by a drunk driver. I was in my Benz and it got totaled. The drunk driver couldnt hardly walk straight when he got out of his car. I begain to flag someone down to call the police and the drunk driver got back in his car that wasn't totaled and he drove off. The cops caught him the next day because I got his plates number. When his insurance company contacted me and interviewed me on a tape recorder. They asked me was he drunk. I said that I didn't know. Had I said that he was drunk his insurance company would be off the hook because under his insurance if he had an accident while drunk the policy is autimatically void.
I thought I was a goner.
