i took Cathay Pacific over there w/1 stopover in Hong Kong, 2 stopovers on the way back (1 in Vancouver)... it's a long ass flight so be prepared for some serious jetlag when u get back home.
I'm planning on dropping some dough on my flight thats just one thing I won't skimp on. Hate flying so I want it to be as comfortable and safe (no near-death experiences lol) as possible. You know I was thinking of doing a stop-over also in Hong Kong even if its for a day check it out. And I'm anticipating the jet-lag to be a major pain.

Singapore Air is supposed to be one of the best as far as trans-pacific comfort.
Cathay Pacific and Singapore Air have the best entertainment with individual tv's with movies, tv shows and games. I've only flown business class on Singapore Air, which is very comfortable, but I just flew economy on Cathay and I have to say it was a pleasant surprise. It was a 16 hour direct flight to Hong Kong from JFK and it seriously wasn't that bad. We'll see how I feel on Sunday when I fly back.
I used my miles to get the flight but the cost was only about $900 round trip from NY to HK.
Bitty, definitely check out Hong Kong, even if it's just for a day. Stay on Kowloon Island and more specifically in Tsim Sha Tsui. It's in a nice area and near a bunch of stuff you would most likely want to see. You can hit a bunch of stuff in just a day. Take the Star Ferry over to Central on Hong Kong Island, check out the midlevel escalators, go on the Peak Tram to get to the Peak for some great views of Hong Kong (if weather permits, if you can't see the Peak from across the harbor, don't bother), check out the Temple Night Street Markets and a bunch of other stuff.
Martin, I'm definetly thinking of booking with them because all I've heard is excellent things about their airlines.
Isles thanks for the tip because I have to check out the list but there was a few Asian airlines that are routinely rated among the best carriers world-wide. I believe Thai-Airways was rated number 1 for 2007. I just have to see what airports they fly out of.
And Hong Kong is on my list for places I to see so if this trip happens I'm definetly going to try for a lay-over there.
