starters are having issues but regardless of the circumstances that lead up to the tie game in the 8th, farnsworth is paid to prevent runs late in the game...and he's failing.
what kills me more than starters...it's the inability to bring in a runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs. it's been a major problem for this team the past few years...
look on the bright side, at least we have this guy

Instead we lost that game in extra innings and that shifted the series.... this has been a problem for years.... since guys like Oneal and tino have retired we have struggled in that area..

i agree w/u about the situational hitting part... as for the Tino reference he historically struggled in the postseason at the plate... he's beloved because he had a couple of very memorable HR's in clutch situations, but he wasn't exactly the type of guy who would move the runner over when we needed him to... if u ask me Scott Brosius was much better at that aspect of the game than Tino was, he was an excellent bunter & usually could be counted on to drive the ball to the OF to drive runners in on sac flies when there was a runner on 3rd... the problem w/the teams since then has been that Torre went away from playing the type of game that they played when they won those championships to begin with & started waiting for the big 3 run HR to win ballgames, & that has really hurt us in postseason play when teams that know how to manufacture runs are more successful in games where each & every run is at a premium... everyone claimed Joe G would bring that brand of baseball back to this franchise but i haven't seen it up to this point... it's the same ol' thing.
Actually, I remember Tino getting a couple of huge hits, that helped us win some of those World Series games. The great thing about the 1996-2000 team was each player contributed. If O'Neal wasn't hitting, then Rains and Jeter were. And if Rains and Jeter couldn't pull it out one night, then O'Neal and Bernie were knocking them down. Even Giardi got some game winning hits in playoffs play.
Not one player dominated and didn't need to be a huge home run hitter. It was all about clutch hitting and each of them were a hero for a night. Same thing with the pitching. That was a real team.
49, ur right it was all about team & no 1 guy was counted on to make the offense for us... but if u remember Tino was struggling so much at the plate in '96 that Torre benched him in favor of Cecil Fielder, who had some huge hits for us that series... Tino also struggled mightily in the '98 postseason other than that huge grand slam he hit off Mark Langston
Tino had 1 good postseason for us in '00, other than that his postseason batting stats are pretty crappy to be honest... & this is coming from a huge fan of the guy... those 2 big HR's he hit for us have endeared him forever to every Yankee fan of those teams but to be honest he was never a great postseason hitter... Derek Jeter was the guy in the postseason, & guys like Bernie & Paullie were also big for us on a consistent basis, then there were guys who stepped up in big moments outta nowhere like Chad Curtis, Jose Vizcaino, Joe Girardi, Scott Brosius, etc. that really made those teams so special & memorable... those teams had tons of heart, something this current team has been severely lacking in the past few years.

I loved Cecil! It was hallarious seeing his head, being so chubby, crushed into that navy blue Yankee helmet. Made him look like a little kid, but man' could he hit the hell out of that baseball. Funny stuff!

And oh' yes, I do remember when Tino was struggling. It's just that I tend to remember his highlights, because it was such great moments when he did' break loose. Yup, the grand slam made up for a lot.
But even though his batting average was crappy, it was the timely clutch hitting that made all the difference. Like I said, when he didn't pick it up, someone else did. It was a pleasure watching those teams play.
Remember when Luis Sojo went for a ground ball, his shoe strings got tangled on the opposite shoe and he wiped out?!
lol... Luis was always our comic relief... i think this team needs more guys like Jim Leyritz... just plain hard nosed type ballplayers who don't care if they get their uni's dirty... you know what i'm talking about? the Mets have guys like that in Ryan Church & David Wright... i think our team could use some passionate guys, we have so many laid back type personalities on this ballclub right now... it would make for a better mix i think.

You douchebags are turning the fantastic and amazing word, douchebag, into a cliche.

Here's all you need to know about Farnsworthless:
Pettitte called Monday night's loss "sickening. That’s all I can say.”
Pettitte called his decision to throw a four-seam fastball to Mauer on a 1-1 count "just as ignorant a pitch as I could throw."
Girardi after Monday's loss: "We should have had a much better record on this road trip. I’m not happy with it. We have to start playing better. That’s the bottom line.”
But after he blew the game, all Farnsworthless can say is: “I got beat with my best pitch. You’ve got to take the good with the bad.”
That's a horrenous way to react, especially since in his last seven appearances, Farnsworth has given up seven earned runs, 12 hits and four homers over 7 1-3 innings.
Those quotes show the difference between guys with heart like Girardi and Pettitte and losers like Farnsworthless.
Another brilliant signing by Cashman, who may as well start cleaning out his office.
We'll have plenty of cash to spend this offseason, but I do not want Cashman doing the shopping.
I know, I know, it's only June. But this team is lacking and is not worth $209 million, so I'll leave it to another GM to take over.
i'll agree w/the comments about Farns... he has a loser's mentality & just doesn't seem like he gives a crap whether this team wins or loses... i know all pro athletes wanna win but this guy just doesn't seem happy here & from what i can gather from his comment at the beginning of the season that he's not really concerned whether guys like him or not in the lockerroom he's just here to do his job (or something to that effect), i think it's clear that Farns is the first guy we need to get rid of off this roster... as soon as JB Cox & Melancon are ready to be called up i would DFA that loser along w/his bullpen buddy LT Hawkins.
