Off Topic · Anyone catch the Nadal/Federer Wimbledon Men's Final? Classic stuff! (page 1)

TMS @ 7/6/2008 11:47 PM
5 sets, 2 sets won by tiebreak, 2 others won 6-4, 5th & final set goes to 9-7... 2 champions giving it their all & making shots when they most needed it... i haven't seen a Tennis match like that in years.

congrats to Nadal... he definitely earned it.
islesfan @ 7/6/2008 11:51 PM
That was amazing tennis. As good of a match as I've ever seen. Probably better than McEnroe vs Borg because it was so close throughout.
VDesai @ 7/6/2008 11:52 PM
Yeah I pretty much spent 8 hours today watching this, but it was worth every minute. Definitely a contender for greatest tennis match ever and one of the best sporting events I've ever witnessed. It was really terrific.
islesfan @ 7/6/2008 11:56 PM
Federer needed someone to come up to his level (or for him to come back to earth a little). It was getting boring and predictable, like golf with Tiger. Nadal was always close but he was seen as more of a clay court specialist who couldn't compete on grass or hardcourts with Federer. Now that Nadal has beaten Federer on his best surface, there's nothing standing between them as equals on any surface. Actually Nadal still owns clay.
TMS @ 7/6/2008 11:59 PM
Federer needs to beat Nadal & win French to even the score... i love when we have rivalries like this in sports... it makes it so much more entertaining to watch... agreed about Tiger Woods... it gets boring when no one can come close. (not that i ever take the time to watch golf to begin with)

I watched the whole thing, awesome match. I didn't know who to root for, they are both such likable players.

Chris Russo is going to be all over this tomorrow.

Jeter could have hit Fairy-tek with his bat like Juan Marichal and the Mets could have blown a 10 run lead in the 9th and Russo would still spend the first 2 hours on that match. He needs Francessa to keep him in line.

It's going to be interesting next week when they do their first show together since the future of the show became in question.

And the Yankees won! Great job Gardner.

I wish I had seen the match...

amazing match. I teach tennis at a camp in Connecticut and we didnt even have the kids on the court all afternoon, just watched the match (probably learn more from that than any lesson lol). Incredible stuff. Can people on sports talk shows stop all this talk about how tennis is dying now?

Haha, yeah probably. I don't mind either one of them solo, but obviously they feed off each other and really need each other to be successful. I think this whole thing is going to blow over when they both come to their monetary senses. We'll see though/.

Do you guys know that there's an OT forum here ? I find it very annoying really.

Tennis was almost killed yesterday.
Im happy for Rafa, because he is a nice guy and he totally deserved victory yesterday, but tennis will never be the same after this. From now on, every player will play the same way forever: no volley, no one handed backhand, no slice shots... why? because it has been proved not necesary at all to win anywhere, not even in grass. On the other hand, this is another victory of athletism over skill (Nadal is very skilled, dont take me wrong), a trend that I have always hated and is so prominent in these days.

any sport that requires an audience to be quiet sucks... If I wanted to sit still and only whisper I would go to a freakin movie.

sorry, i didn't realize this thread would ruin your reading experience of the 7 Chris Duhon threads, the Heat looking to trade Marion thread, the biggest draft bust of all time thread, the Steven A Smith heckler thread, the Oklahoma City Sonics thread, the Yahoo Fantasy Football thread, the For Anyone who doesn't like me thread...

I saw the most of the match up until the last delay - and it killed me to miss the end of it - but I had to drive from NY to VA and I had already delayed my trip to see the match. I figured it wouldnt be completed if the rain delay was as serious as NBC was saying it was.

I am a huge Nadal fan and I like Federer too but its about time someone else won Wimbledon. I have been following Nadal for a few years and he has improved his game tremendously. It will be interesting to see what happens at the U.S. Open but I think Federer has the edge on hard courts. That was an amazing match.
