What would you hate more winning the playoffs with Barry on the team or watching other teams win in the playoffs? It sucks that we're even in such a desperate position.
Believe me, I'd rather not make the playoffs, if it meant keeping this guy away.
Man, I want the last game at Yankee Stadium to be in the WS, not capping off an 83 win season.
83 games would be a nice little send off. At least we'd be respectable.
Richie sexton is a first baseman right?

yanks just signed richie sexson...
Well it's better than doing nothing but (sadly) they needed Bonds.
What?!
They have a poor offense and needed Bonds, unless they're willing to accept mediocrity this year. I know you'd rather have a mediocre team than win with Bonds but I think I hate losing more than you do.

At 6'-8", that guys a monster. Strikes out an awful lot though.
Sexson's only being brought in to face lefty pitching exclusively... his #'s vs righties this year are pathetically bad.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope he breaks the record at yankee stadium !!!!!!!!!!!!! Unlike Roger Clemens, there is NO PROOF that he did anything !!!

Yeah.. in 61ab's this year vs. lefties, Sexson is batting .344 with 5HRs, so it's safe to say that he'll be playing 1st for every lefty we face, which isn't so bad. It's 100X better than throwing Betemit out there.
Who knows, if Sexson catches fire we got a great problem at 1B/DH.
it's a minor acquisition but minor moves have in the past meant big things for the Yankees... remember guys like Big Rube, Glenallen Hill, Chad Curtis, Luis Vizcaino, etc... i ain't holding my breath on the Big Sexy to come up big in the postseason but for the peanuts he's being paid it's worth a shot... rumor has it teams are asking for outrageous prices for veteran bats these days... i heard Olney talking about the Pirates asking for a top pitching prospect for someone like Xavier Nady... gimme a break.

I am a die hard Yankee and I second that sentiment. If they sign him, they should wear something other than pinstripes for the rest of the season. Cause seeing him in pinstripes would make me sick.
i understand why people wouldn't want any part of Bonds, but it's not like the Yanks haven't made moves like this in order to try & win games in the past.
i was pretty disgusted when they picked up Jose Canseco several years back just to keep him away from BOS... felt it was a pointless acquisition & added nothing to the team, but we ended up winning a WS in spite of it... not saying the same would happen here but Bonds is a way more intimidating presence in the lineup than Canseco ever was.
i dunno, i leave it up to the upper management to figure things out... this team definitely needs to do something cuz as it stands we don't have much depth at all due to Matsui's injury & the fact that Melky & Cano have struggled most of the season at the plate... we can't be relying on guys like Gardner, Christian, Molina & Moeller to pick up the slack (not that i have anything against those guys but they're not scaring anyone, let's be real about it)
looks like the Yanks are also looking at Freddy Garcia for the rotation:

Righty Garcia could be late-season pickup

Freddy Garcia, who has not pitched this season while recovering from surgery on his right .labrum, is preparing to work out for clubs, his agent Peter Greenberg said by phone Wednesday. The Yankees and Mets are among the dozen or so clubs that have expressed interest.
"We're hoping to showcase him, if possible, by the end of July," Greenberg told Newsday. "We think he's going to help somebody in the majors this year, September and October."
Garcia, 33, is 117-76 in his career with a 4.07 ERA. He has spent most of that time with the Mariners and White Sox, but was traded to the Phillies before the 2007 season. Bothered by shoulder problems, he went 1-5 with a 5.90 ERA.
Greenberg said Garcia is likely to sign for just this season, then go on the free-agent market. "You never know," Greenberg said. "If there's somebody that wants to sign him to a multiyear deal, we'll be receptive to that. Our preference is just to sign Freddy for the rest of this year."
Garcia has resumed throwing from a mound. His next bullpen session is expected to be Thursday, throwing 45 pitches (fastballs, changeups), then adding curve.balls next time.
The Yankees and Mets could have holes in their rotations. The Yankees don't know when or if Chien-Ming Wang and Phil Hughes will return. The Mets don't want to count too heavily on Pedro Martinez, whose health has been iffy.

It's too bad the Yankees are decimated. Now anyone can be a Yankee. We have like 3 waiver pickups this year.
6 games back in the standings, 5 in the loss column... not time to panic just yet.

Seems worthwhile. Rasner's not impressing me as the fifth starter.
This would be a good move by the Yankees. I have no anamosity towards Bonds. He is a hell of a player and would be welcomed. Once he puts on the pin stripes he is our guy and I really don't care to much for the steroid thing and all.

How could a yankee fan care about that?
beyond the steroid thing, bonds has always been a clubhouse cancer b/c hes a selfish jerk. please no. steroids has nothing to do with it, even before bonds was juicing he was not like by his teammates in pittsburgh, in san francisco, by the media, he's just a jerk. i'd rather not make the playoffs than have bonds on the team.
the rumor's already been squashed, but just for argument's sake i happen to think Bonds would be a good soldier if he came to the Bronx... he & Jeter get along great & u know ARod would be kissing his butt if he came here too... there's no one on this team i can picture Bonds getting into it w/other than maybe Farns if they happen to have some prior history from playing against each other in the past, & they wouldn't be in contact all that much anyways.
who cares about the roids, it's not like we don't have our fair share of violators on this team already as it is... the only problem for the Yanks IMO would be the public relations situation, but if Bonds came in, put up #'s & was well behaved like i think he'd be, then that problem would quickly be dissipated.
now w/this whole Roger Clemens situation tho i guess the Yankees' upper brass just wants to stay away from another potential distraction w/Bonds... i can't blame them for that, but looking at it from a baseball perspective i don't see any better options for a bat to replace Matsui at this point.

he just got done saying he wouldn't care too much about it... why are you always trying to stir up trouble instead of adding some useful content? is it that boring over on the Mets thread?

The Mets signed Guillermo Mota last year, one year after he served a 60 game drug suspension, so we don't need to hear any of the "only the Yankees have steroid player" talk from you.
*cough* Paul LoDuca *cough*

baseball has really fallen to the lowest lows. Ruined forever.
