this is going beyond the realm of ridiculousness at this point... for a team to offer to pay your butt $20 mil to just stay away? holy crap... that's what i call 1 helluva retirement package.
I think both sides have handled this entire situation badly.
First, Favre is to blame for retiring early - that is HIS fault and he was stupid to do it knowing that he would probably get the itch to play come training camp time. I also think the way he has treated the Packers in the off season for the past few years has been rediculous, basically making them wait until the last minute when he decides he wants to play again - same as this year.
Second, the Packers have a right to be pissed that Favre retired, then came out of retirement, and that for the past few seasons he has pulled this wait and see crap. But not welcoming him back, saying Aaron Rogers is the starter when Favre is most likely the better QB, and now offering him money not to show up - get real. Rogers may end up being decent, I don't know much about him - but Favre is a legend who showed last season he still has a lot left in the tank.
I have no clue how you can resolve this mess but both sides look awful and I am sick of the ESPN updates.
Brett can definitely still play, but this is all his own doing... he should have never retired to begin with... i'm so sick of these athletes who crave all this attention as their careers are winding down, as if they need people to keep telling them how great they are to be happy w/the careers they had... if i were him i'd just take a quick look at my bank account & that would be enough to tell me how great of a player i've been over the years.
I think its stupid. I blame Favre for retiring early, but oh well he decided to come back. If the Packers don't want him and think they have a better QB they should have no problems trading him elsewhere and if he comes back to beat you, shame on you.
I am not a fan of athletes being told they can't play. You are on this Earth for like 90 years, you might as well do what you love at the highest possible level until you really can't do it anymore and Favre can still do it and very well.
Just trade him to whoever. The Packers will get better compensation out of it anyways, than if Favre was retired.
i think he should be allowed to play too... i think the Packers are putting this out there w/the knowledge that he won't accept the offer just to make him look even more greedy & spiteful... both parties are acting like an angry couple going through a nasty divorce.
If the Packers are committed to go in another direction then they should just trade Brett Favre. I think the big problem with the ackers is that they feel that he could be effective for another team and they don't want to look bad for leting him go.
Come on Jets let's snatch him up!
The Packers are in "serious talks" about a trade that would send Brett Favre to the Jets, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
This would be the Packers' ideal landing spot for Favre. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, has conversed with the Jets, indicating his client does have interest in playing for them. An impending trade could be the reason commissioner Roger Goodell has refused to reinstate Favre to this point. Allowing Favre to practice could've crippled the Packers' team chemistry. Stay tuned. LOL. Favre will do nothing to the Jets but give them publicity.

I'm not a Jets fan, but I do watch all their games, since they are always on when the Giants aren't. Why will Favre not help them? He can certainly still play.
Anyone else tired as hell of hearing about Favre? The only time I want to see him on my tv is when I'm watching my Giants' championship DVDs.

personally i've always thought he was a bit overrated as a QB... the guy throws as many horrible INT's as any big name QB i've ever seen play the game, a lot of them in the most inopportune time at that... but hey, i'm not complaining... our G-Men beat his ass in the last NFC championship game in his own house... i respect the guy for his toughness & ability to stay healthy when so many QB's go down to injury every year, but he's not in Tom Brady or Payton Manning's class IMHO.

I think you summed it up perfectly.
He will help the Jets because he is better than Clemens and Pennington
This whole problem falls on Favre's shoulders. I'm not even a packer fan and I am pist at him. This guy is an icon in Green Bay and pretty much had it all made. He went through this long drawn out saga the past few seasons with retirement. He finally got some courage to retire and then he goes home and realizes he still wants to play. OK fine, well the packers have moved on. How is this being fair to the team? Are they going to go through the same story at the end of next season ? So Favre throws a hissy fit about not having his starting spot, so then take a trade. Well why would Green Bay trade him to someone in their division? Why would any team do that to a disgruntled star ? I see Favre in a new light now, a kind of TO/ mini Chad Johnson primadonna light. Not good enough to be traded, he wants to be fully released. Man I hate it when these players do that.
