Manny A Yankee?
7 Speak Out
August 9
New York Post

"Having successfully orchestrated his divorce from Boston and his landing in with the Dodgers, Manny Ramirez would like to make life miserable for the Red Sox during the next few seasons.

According to people who have spoken to the eccentric outfielder since he was dealt to L.A. on July 31, Ramirez wants to sign a free-agent deal with the Yankees this offseason and get 19 chances a year to punish Boston.

"He wants to play for the Yankees so he can get at the Red Sox," a close friend of Ramirez's told The Post.

Of course, every free agent says he wants to play for the Yankees. They pay well, will always have a chance to make the postseason, and when they show an interest in a free agent, the price from other clubs skyrockets.

Considering Ramirez is represented by Scott Boras, every imaginable angle will be played when the 36-year-old, a product of George Washington High School in Washington Heights, will become a free agent following the World Series.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman would not comment on the situation. Ramirez forced the Red Sox to deal him to the Dodgers by badmouthing the organization, not hustling and sitting out a July 25 game against the Yankees with a knee injury that didn't show up on an MRI the next day. "

knowing this guy can literally turn on his greatness any freakin' time he wants to is scary... just look how he's raking in LA now hitting in a pitcher's ballpark after coasting much of this season in BOS?... he's also killed the Angels this year, & they have historically owned us ever since '01... but at the same time it makes u wonder if he'd pull the same crap w/the Yankees someday too... if he came to NY & helped this team win a championship i think it would be worth the trouble personally... having his bat to protect ARod's in the lineup would be pretty damn scary...& how better to sweeten this already heated rivalry than to see Manny in Yankee pinstripes next season? u think ARod had it bad, wait til u get a load'a the hate that's gonna get spewed at Manny at Fenway if that were to ever happen.

Thoughts?

Sounds great but no thanks. We seriously should be developing the farm and bringing them up. These huge free agents we been picking up over the years always turn out to be busts. Many will just be another guy who comes here, gets pampered and falls to sleep.

What we need more than anything in the world right at this moment is legit pitching. Both starting and the pen.

probably right since he's looking for a 4 year deal at $100 mil... i can see him signing an extension w/LA over the offseason.

Personally? I'd like to see the Mets pick him up. They need to generate more offense. Winning or losing 3-2 shows how good their pitching really is. But the National League on the other hand always does score a lot lower, since it's a fast ball league, vs. the American League being a breaking ball league (traditionally).

i can see him going to the Mets to join his buddy Pedro too, but dunno if Minaya will be allowed to spend the big bucks anymore if they miss out on the playoffs again this year... the Wilpons will probably put a reign on his payroll if they miss out & have to close out Shea in September again this year.
