GRID for PS3 Review
Awesome graphics and sound on this driving game, but most of the cars are too damn hard to control with the joypad and there's no way to adjust the controls to your liking so you gotta deal with a ton of wheel spin at times even with your traction control, anti-lock braking and stability management turned on, unless you just happen to have some seriously sensitive index finger control (not that I don't have seriously sensitive index finger controllage, but that's another topic). It might be easier if you have one of those GT driving wheels to use, but haven't tried it (if one of you homos wanna send me 80 bucks to go out and get one, I'll let you know). This isn't really a true racing simulator like Forza 2 or Gran Turismo 4 tho, so if you wanna be able to modify your rides and custom tune them to get the best performance and driveability for each car, you're sheet outta luck here.
Coolest features:
- The replays are awesome. The graphics rendering and shading, lighting/shading effects, etc. are really well done and very detailed, not quite as sharp as in GT5 but just as good in showing the curves and modulations. When you crash, the car shows the damage so it beats GT5 Prologue in that respect, and the overall graphics rendering is better than in Forza2 in my opinion.
- Demolition Derby, Drift King and real F1 type events give you more event options than Forza2 or GT5 Prologue does.
- Flashback option allows you to re-do a specific turn or spot in the track where you just fukked up on, which is great since you don't have to restart the entire race if you don't want to.
- The game calls you by your name throughout career mode (if your name is prelisted among the choices), which is kinda cool. Otherwise you can choose one of the preset nicknames for the game if yours isn't listed. Haven't tried starting up a new career mode with a non-listed custom name like "Achmed Mustafa Al-Azeed" yet but I'm assuming the game won't recognize it, which I guess kinda sucks if you're an Arab in the Middle East that likes to play video games.
Dumbest (non-) features:
- Like I said, no custom modification/tuning of your cars or trading of cars over the PS Network is available, so this game is geared for just those who like to drive and nothing else (there is online play though).
- Allows only one profile save in the game, so you can't switch to another profile while you're playing if say your friend wants to play the game and you don't want him to mess up your career stats. The only way around this is to create another user in your PS3 hdd and reload the game under that username, which is pretty much retarded.
- No split-screen multiplayer support, only Lan and Online capability. Again, pretty much retarded.
* Overall, I'd say this is a pretty good rental game but not one I'd invest in to buy. I'm just gonna have to wait 'til the full version of GT5 is released to get my racing fix on I guess (whenever the hell that is), unless Microsoft somehow decides to release Forza3 for the PS3, which pretty much ain't gonna happen.
