I will miss that place, I saw reggie play live, Ricky Henderson, guidry, so many memories. I went to elementary school right around the corner from the stadium, used to walk by there almost every day. I will miss that place... thanks for the memories..

I can't believe they're just gonna demolish it. They need to make use of the thing. What happened to making it a historic landmark?

Btw, r.I.p. Ebbets field.

Yes. Ebbets Field 4 life.

They should at least use the Yankee Stadium footprint and keep the field as parkland. Who wouldn't want to play ball where the greats did?
EnySpree @ 9/21/2008 2:20 PM
I read months back that they would keep the walls up and put condos and commercial space inside.....they would also keep the field for baseball like little leagues or whatever else......I can't find those early articles to prove what I'm saying.

Anybody find any info....I can't really google right now.

I think they lied about everything and will Sell everything off to people and let them decide what to do with it. Shame that this great ballpark will be completely destroyed due to greed.

The worst part is that the Yankees announcer for 58 years, Bob Sheppard, will not be able to make it for tonight's game. He is 98 years old and has been sick all season.

my dad took me to yankee stadium back in 1977 when i was 3 years old. my first memories of the stadium is sitting in the upper deck with my mom and dad eating chicken my mom cooked. i also remember getting a reggie candy bar at the stadium too. my favorite memory there has to be sitting in the bleachers in 1995 for don mattingly's first playoff game. my favorite sports athlete of all time. i grew up in that stadium watching some really bad teams while living in queens surrounded by the mid 80's mets fans. anyways, it was a fun place, especially the right field bleachers (my seat of preference). but the new place looks fantastic so far - can't wait to go there next season.

i thought that was the plan, to keep the field intact & erect a Yankees' museum where the old stadium grandstand once stood, no?

u're part of my generation of Yankee fans bro... i watched Reggie & Dave Winfield play together at the Stadium in '81 in my first home game... that was a memorable experience... never quite made it to a postseason game tho, that's my 1 main regret... wish i'd have known what the Stadium felt like shaking under your feet in the stands... but i've been to some memorable regular season games & witnessed some big moments & some awesome baseball players come & go... Reggie, Dave, Donnie, Gator, Rickey, Goose & obviously all the more recent greats... all awesome memories i'll cherish forever.

WTF bro. I thought ESPN would show the pregame ceremonies and they show shit. I missed the Bernie entrance. Fuck you ESPN.
EnySpree @ 9/21/2008 7:36 PM
My fondest memory is chanting "Blue Jays suck" in the left field bleachers at the tender age of 3-4. The entire crowd was yelling including my pops. I remember it vibrating through my body. My pops caught me and was telling me not to repeat, while some random fat white guy rubs my head saying somethin....I still hate the blue jays cuz of that day. "Blue jays suck" caca bitches!

Is that Bob Sheppard live or taped?
GKFv2 @ 9/21/2008 8:16 PM
Ok it was just taped. Still cool to hear his voice. The only guy that's missing is The Boss.

Nice ceremony.

Babe Ruth's daughter. Perfect touch right there.
TMS @ 9/21/2008 8:25 PM
was definitely good to hear his voice again... i hope he can make it to Opening Day next year at the new place & open the place the way it should be opened.
