There is no doubting him--its every game--he's just to big and athletic to control. He is today's Hakeem Patrick Shaq etc.. and he may be better than those guys.
This is what I'm talking about knee-jerk reactions Briggs.
I mean come on...
he can't be better than what's his name.

Man, right now Howard is not worthy enough to wipe up their sweat. Get a grip man.
BRIGGS is nippin' at the sauce tonight...
oohah
I agree with Briggs on this one other then the "he may be better then those guys". Then again he may be down the road. Who knows he is only 23 straight out of high school and no college experience. His offense is steadily improving. He is also just a freak of nature rebounding & shotblocking wise.
When he turns like 26 if he stays healthy he could start dominating the championship game like Shaq did.

Which player are we talking about? Look at the numbers. Tongith 30 points 20 rebounds 10 blocks who has done that in the last 20 years? He's going to be averaging after tonight 25-15-4 and he's 22 years old. At 21 years old last year he averaged more rebounds per game than Patrick Hakeem or Shaq in their WHOLE career's--look it up--the guy is a beast that people dont see much.
Funny but no one here can dispute the numbers. At 21 years old he averaged more rebounds in one year than ANy year Patrick Hakeem or Shaq played. Patricks first year was 20-9 48% last year Dwight was 21-14.4 and 2.5 60%--he is just not on TV enough he doesnt get the recognition but he is already there--whoever doubts it show me by the numbers. He's already better than Patrick in his absolute prime in an all around game right now.

Briggs EVERYONE knows that Howard is good. EVERYONE. But for you to say that he is part now part of the 'upper echelon' of all-time big men is just mind-boggling. You are comparing him to guys who have been the driving force to winning MULTIPLE titles.
Dwight Howard is an absolute monster! 10 BLOCKS?! And he does that with 30 points and 19 fucking rebounds! This guy is an absolute monster. He is, before our very eyes, becoming an all time great big man! He of course has to keep this up for another 5 - 10 years but wow, what an unbelievable stat line!
dwight howard is VERY VERY good. i dunno, i'm not sold on his offensive game though. i wanna see Dwight carry Orlando on his back over Bynum and beat the Lakers or send a message, but he's damn good. of all the players you could build around in the league, i'd take him very early on, maybe take Bron or Paul, but he's definitely up there. it's scary he's so young. but i think he needs to have a coming out party in the playoffs before he's compared to the greats.

He'll get his rings--his talent level is now at those players level and beyond Patrick's.

Ewing, Hakeem and Shaq. And they did it against better big men too. Howard is a tough guy except when he is playing someone as strong as him. Look at his series versus the Raptors and then look at his series versus the Pistons. Watching him do it against the Thunder doesn't impress me.

Whats not to sell on his offensive game? He averaged 21 points and 60% shooting last year--this year up to 25 now shooting better than 60%. Best rebounder since Rodman and blocks shots like Hakeem and he will get you 23-25 points at 60%+--what else to say--think about this--he is 25-30 pounds heavier than Patrick and 5 times more athletic.

I agree, last seasons playoffs Detroit pretty much held him in check.

I'm not sure he is better than David Robinson and he has not yet reached the Shaq or Olajuwan level.
Great player yes, all time great, not yet.
oohah
I'd say Dwight Howard's absolute ceiling is Moses Malone, with less offensive talent and more blocking ability. Considering Malone played at 19 in the ABA, I think the comparison is as good as you'll find. But Dwight would have to put up number like that for 20 years.
Dwight is 16/12/2 for his career and Malone was 23/13/1 for his 21 season career (either NBA and ABA, or NBA). So, Dwight has a ways to go before he's on par with Moses, either needs to improve his offense (Moses had 31 PPG in 81-82) or get 3 BPG and the rebounding edge. And while Moses is considered to be one of the all time greats, he's typically at the end of that list.

im surprised almost every time at how far "with the wind" briggs seems to blow. this thread is just silly like an excited kid... briggs dont marry your first crush :)
It was the first time a player had at least 30 points and 10 blocks in a game since Hakeem Olajuwon had 31 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks against Dallas on April 13, 1996, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
