New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress suffered an accidental gunshot wound Friday night in a club, according to multiple sources.

Details of the incident weren't immediately available, but according to a source the wound was not considered life-threatening.

Fox Sports.com reported that Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg and spent the night in the hospital.

Burress, who was not expected to play against the Washington Redskins on Sunday because of a hamstring injury, was not at team meetings and did not attend the team's Saturday walkthrough.

The Giants organization was not commenting on the story.

In September, Burress was suspended for a game and fined for a violation of team rules, reportedly failing to appear at a team meeting and being unavailable by phone. At the time, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said that Burress was tending to urgent family matters.

Burress signed a five-year, $35 million contract this fall after helping the Giants to a Super Bowl championship last season.

Hopefully this is the last straw. I seriously can't take seeing this guy in a Giants uni again.

I've defended this guy left and right and always said how he seems to be a good guy who just has some issues. However, he's walking around with guns now AND pulling the trigger? I hope he's OK, but I don't know about this guy now.

NO Plax will give my Jets a better chance in the superbowl.

So I hope this is the last straw.

Great this fool wants to now play Russian roulette at clubs. Ladies and gentlemen we found New York's own Pac Man Jones part 2.

Not even close to Pacman, but this is still real bad.

Just give him more time.

Pacman smacks up his bodyguard while Plex plays Robo Cop with his leg at club "Run&Gun."

I wonder what his leg did to deserve this.

I can't wait to hear Rosenhaus' lame excuse. I hope they void his contract. Great job catching that perfect fade by Eli. Now go away and make room for Hixon.

I bet it taunted him. any of us would have reacted the same way.

He's a nut man....Giants got some atheletes in the wing....Go Big Blue!
azamatbagatov @ 11/29/2008 2:06 PM
It's about time to cut this guy and go for a WR in the first round next year. Hixon should do well enough to get us through the rest of the year and playoffs
GallOfFame @ 11/29/2008 2:17 PM
He found out real quick he's PLEXIGLASS.

This is by far the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

Giants and players and coaches love Plax and if they can find a way to get him straightened out they will do whatever it takes. Personally I hope they do. He's got his head up his ass but he's a good player and Giants need him.

Overreactions up in this piece.

Where are all my NRA, right wing, give-me-mah-gun-or-give-me-death, cats? Now all of a sudden everybody's getting all squeamish over guns --- that was Palin's whole selling point. That she likes to shoot moose in the ass and feed it to her rugrats.

Point being the only thing I'm concerned about is if he can fully recover from his injuries, which hopefully he will. So he brought a burner to the club and bucked himself. It happens. I've stubbed my toe before. He's prone to the mental lapses, but he's not Pacman and homeboy is the truth on the field. Not giving up that kind of production even if he walked into the living room of my parents house and slapped the taste out my mama's mouth.
