Wow, awesome! Cash finally got a big FA signing right! There's still MAJOR work to do this off-season but this a great start!

And then some offense! This is only the beginning but it's a good beginning. That doesn't mean it's risk-free by any means but life seldom is

Right now we have CC, Wang, and Joba. Burnett and Lowe would be nice. Then get Manny.
Nalod @ 12/10/2008 8:15 AM
whats up with Pettite?

And can we rely on some youth on the mound and sign Texiera?

What does the rotation look like now? Is Wang healthy?

CC
Wang
Joba

those two questions marks could be two of the following: sheets, burnett, lowe, pettitte

you lock up two of those guys, your starting rotation is stacked (w/ hughes prepping in triple A)

then, there's no panic to go get a bat right away. yanks could make a midseason deal to add a hitter. that type of staff (and bullpen) is good enough to carry our offense for a while.

Overpaid like a mother...typical Yankees.

yanks apparently offered him $10 mil and he turned it down. but torre spoke to pettitte and torre said andy really only wants to pitch for the yanks. so i think eventually, they will agree to terms. pettitte fell off pretty bad 2nd half last year and that's when he usually gets better. and him turning down an offer after the yanks stood behind him during clemensgate is kind of douche (if it's true).

CC like David wells? Fat with a good arm?

Why not groom Joba to be the next great closer? I understand he wants to start, but a dominant closer is a very rare and valuable commodity.

If the Yankees bring back Pettitte and sign another starter, I defintely think Joba should be moved back to the Setup man. No doubt in my mind.

he's always been a starter and i think he has 4 solid pitches. have to see what he can do as a starter first especially with mariano still around. and with all the arms in the bullpen, they don't need him to set up right now. but in 3 years when mariano retires, he possibly could move into that role.

From rotoworld...

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Yankees are close to signing Derek Lowe to a four-year deal worth between $68 and $72 million.

However, the Phillies are apparently still in the mix, which could keep the Yankees from announcing the additions of both Lowe and CC Sabathia on the same day. Adding both starters would presumably take the Yankees out of the running for A.J. Burnett despite the fact that they were said to be ready to top the Braves' $60 million offer to him. why? At least Sheets was once a healthy starter. AJ has never been. Either would be Wright/Pavano part II, but I would rather take Sheets at a discount then overpay for AJ who will bust. Sheets has great stuff

they have some good young arms and surely one will earn the 5th spot, maybe even 4th as well. Sounds like a broken record but Hughes is healthy again and pitched great in winter ball so far
Cookdcokehop @ 12/10/2008 9:56 AM
Last year, the Yankees had inconsistent batting & a lackluster offense. What do they do? They go out and overpay for CC Sabathia. Stupid Yankees. You guys suck. Let's go Mets!

They both have great stuff. Burnett averaged 183 innings for last 4 yrs while being overused by manager. Sheets very injury prone. Sheets had a messed up elbow, maybe something torn? never fixed at end of last year. Very concerned about him.

does the season start tomorrow?

i'm guessing johan is perfectly paid for his services, right?

on a side note, the problem with the mets wasn't wagner, it was the 6-8 innings. so the mets swapped wagner with k-rod. lateral move at best. still haven't addressed 6-8 innings. stupid mets.
djsunyc @ 12/10/2008 10:20 AM
here's a good stat for cc:

21-8 2.96 ERA vs. the AL east
Allanfan20 @ 12/10/2008 10:29 AM
LMAO. Mike Francessa was beeotching all day yesterday how the Yanks need to stay away from CC b/c of how he clearly has no interest in playing in NY. I guess Mike just got PWNED!

Regardless, I'm sure not in love with CC, but I sure hope like hell it works.
