I guess those airline pilots deserve their high salaries.

i was watching it from the pier on christopher street and the thing was just floating down the river. crazy sight. it was great to hear that everyone got out ok, the pilot is a superstar for getting the plane downlike that. here are some pics i took while out there - not the best quality but gives a general sense....

Not saying that the circumstances were similar but it could have been much worse.

The pilots deserve all the praise that they get. Those guys are heroes.

Deffinitely. As Cosmic said, one wing touches water first and its a different story. Amazing job by the pilot.

Hope every pilot knew how to deal with situations like that one, though its always so risky you'd have to operate near perfect n order to get the plane safe. Thank God everybody is alright.

Everyone was praying like mad inside the plane. Its nice when people are rewarded for praying, because this was nothing short of a miracle.

Holy shit! that explains all the cop cars flying down 34th today....i knew it couldnt have been a normal drill cuz the fire department was with them. Gotta call my moms and sis....this is some incredible shit.
Solace @ 1/16/2009 1:09 AM
Truly amazing that every single person survived.
mattshaw78 @ 1/16/2009 7:43 AM
the pilot has 4 years of experience....thank god for all of them
Rookie @ 1/16/2009 8:40 AM
The pilot has alot more experience then that. He is a Vietnam Vet, flew for the Air force and used to run a safety co. where he trained pilots to deal with emergency situations. Gotta thank the lord above for putting the right pilot in that plane. Simply amazing.
93BUICK @ 1/16/2009 12:34 PM
Haven't you guys played flight simulator? The shit is easy! Come on!
I once ran over a bird in my Buick and still landed safely.

Yeah, I could always imagine myself on a plane in a movie scenario where the pilots passed out and the attendant comes asking if there's a pilot on the plane.

*raises hand* "Well, I've played thousands of hours of flight simulator! I can do it!"

Funny thing is...most planes today are equipped to land automatically. A good ATC person, a person that has any knowledge of aircraft at all be it a hobby, actual flying, or even flight simulator - can pull the right controls to land a plane these days.

In a river? Fuck no, those 155 would have been kissing their butts goodbye if I were in charge. LOL we'd all be inspecting the roof of the holland tunnel first hand.

mattshaw78 @ 1/16/2009 3:45 PM

STOP MILKING THIS STORY!

It was amazing but now the news are just driving me nuts. They milk and milk until they leave a story bone dry.

The guy is a former fighter pilot, gives advice to some of the top officials in the company. Very well experienced and very highly respected. Those people were lucky as hell.
4949 @ 1/17/2009 4:41 PM
I think all commercial jet pilots should be former fighter pilots. At least half of the fleet anyway.

How do you milk a story about a plane crashing into a river and people surviving? This doesn't happen everyday and it was really a miracle. Obviously it would be all over the news for more than a few days. Didn't this just happen just 2 days ago anyway? Ah, some people are always miserable.

Anyway, this will go on the back burner come Inauguration Day. Barack Obama baby!
