Off Topic · rush limbo at it again! (page 1)

rush limbaugh said over the weekend he hopes oboma's presidency fails. first of all, how unamerican is that statement, hoping the president fails. i hated bush but i did not want this country to go into the crapper. second, it solidifies how racist he is. his comments about mcnabb a few years ago to go along with saying oboma is getting a pass because of skin color is too far. this person needs to get kicked in the face.

Nalod @ 2/3/2009 10:25 AM
Rush is entertainment, not news.
This is how he earns his living. Getting narrow minded people riled up.
At the other spectrum, ever listen to radio from the "Left"? Sounds very similar.
They bash the right with the same reckless abandon.
This is not "media", but instead entertainment. He is not bound by journalistic accuracy.
The masses spoke and voted for Obama. He has both sides of the house. His power is massive for at least two years. The president has to get this right to get momentum.
Don't bother with Rush, he is an ass with no teeth.
Regarding his getting a pass because of race, its a common thought amung whitey. There are those who think Obama is young and inexperienced and had not distinguished himself as a senater. They think that his skin color gave him the attention which propelled him into the spotlight. It gave him a boost. Naturally his talent had to carry him and it did, but the "novalty" of Obama might have given him an advantage. One could say the Republican Vice presisident nominee was choosen because her gender, age and doability, but once propelled into the spotlight she melted.
Im not sure I entirely disagree that being half black did not help Obama to some degree.
But.........
If our system does not elect the best person for the office of president because of so many variables. Being an intelect does not help cause you can't relate to the common folk. That helped Dubya. He is a moron. Being young without baggage is good, but it also means you have not gone into battle enough times.
I usually retort when his race was an advantage that if being black helped us get a clean intellectual with a harvard degree and has a boring marriage with nice kids into the presidency then good for the United States!!!!!
The honeymoon will soon be over. I hope everyones expectations of him are real. He will be subject of parody and critizised for his failures just like all the presidents behind him. Maybe being the first black president is the toughest of all. He has a tough task ahead of him.
MOST of my republican friends do wish his presidency the best. They won't vote democratic regardless. I usually tell them maybe the repuplican party will do better going forward and leave the moral issues alone. It does not work anymore.

I had two issues with your post
1.
I think you are very naive if you believe that millions of Americans don't consider this windbag's commentary to be gospel. Unfortunately his hate talk resonates with many Americans hence why he's paid millions of dollars and has one of the highest rated shows. Also I think comparing the Left talk radio to Rush is a bit ridiculous because if you seriously think this then; I would challenge you to name one left wing radio talk show host that spews hate comparable Rush. I'm not saying that the left doesn't get heated too or toe the line but this a**hole is on whole other stratosphere. With maybe Sean Hannity and Michael Savage.
I've seen you make this comment a few times about Obama's race making a more "attractive candidate" like his being elected to Presidency was some kind of Affirmative Action on steroids. I disagree simply because whether you support Obama's policies or not one thing is for certain he clearly ran a significantly better campaign then Senator McCain and even Senator Clinton in the primaries. And that had absolutely nothing to do with his race.
p.s.
I think it's funny that you say "my Republican friends" when are you going to just come out of the closet and admit to being a Republican (without right-wing Christian ideology)

Nalod @ 2/4/2009 12:27 AM
Bitty, I swear to you that I voted for Obama. Without any reservation.
Please understand I said the theory might have some merit only to the point that it gave him some momentum. I never said he was given the opportunity because he was black.
But he still had to beat Hillary, and then McCain. He earned it. Lets not take my comments to far.
Regarding Rush, I think he is a total piece of Shit and deplore his "ditto heads" who follow his crap without any thought. Bottom line is Obama won the vote. Ditto heads won't ever vote democratic and certainly a black american.
My "republican friends" are not ditto heads.
Maybe my wallet speaks republican but heart bleeds to the left.

Rush isnt a serious political mind. Hes a moron. While some people actually think like him, I feel like most of his listeners are just listening for entertainment. Anybody who hopes for the president to fail is a doushebag. Limbough is nothing but a pill popping junkie

True, but there are some serious dumb people out there that take even media entertainment outlets as the gospel! If it comes from a legitimate source like a car radio, then it must be the truth!

I think Rush is getting closer and closer to being Howard Stern, what with the drugs and over the top commentary

I love the fact that this fat, racist drug addict has become the de facto face of the republican party. Obama made a very strategic move in calling him out, becuase he knew this idiot wouldnt be able to help himself and would relish the spotlight.
Damn, Obama's playing chess, not checkers out here.

I think its very ignorant of you to say that Rush Limbough is the face of the Republican Party, a group that represents almost half this country. Thats like me saying that Rosie O'donnell is the face the Democratic party. Just because some fringe elements of a group agree with what an entertainer says doesnt make him the "de facto face" of a party. The vast majority of both parties consists of people who are reasonable. Its narrow minded to lump an entire group of people in with a blowhard like Limbough
4949 @ 2/7/2009 12:07 PM
The only thing that I would be worried about is the voters who take rush serious, and the Senator's who have to rely on their votes. Obama has complete power and the chance to reach across the floor. I think it's best for Obama not to mention the fat Nazi's name again.
Markji @ 2/12/2009 6:07 PM
Posted by izybx:I wish that were the case. But it isn't in my experience. I have friends who listen to Rush's show everyday (Some actually tape his show everyday.) and then use his arguments whenever we discuss an issue. And it is very obvious when a point is from Rush L because it always plays on emotions...and these people seriously believe it. To make matters worse, these friends and relatives are all highly educated, in their 50's to early 60's and they regurgitate Rush's lines like it is the gospel.

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele took umbrage Saturday night when CNN's D.L. Hughley referred to radio host Rush Limbaugh as "the de facto leader of the Republican party."
"No he's not. I'm the de facto leader of the Republican party," Steele said. The RNC chief went on to call Limbaugh, who that very day delivered the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, a mere "entertainer" whose show is "incendiary" and "ugly."
On his radio show today, Limbaugh fired back, calling the RNC and Michael Steele "so-called Republicans" and saying that they "need a little leadership."
"So I am an entertainer and I have 20 million listeners because of my great song and dance routine," Limbaugh said. "Michael Steele, you are head of the Republican National Committee. You are not head of the Republican party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the Republican National Committee...and when you call them asking for money, they hang up on you."
"I hope that changes," Limbaugh continued. "It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of being some talking-head media star."
UPDATE: Rush continued firing shots at Steele later in the show.
"I'm not in charge of the Republican Party, and I don't want to be," he said. "I would be embarrassed to say that I'm in charge of the Republican Party in a sad-sack state that it's in. If I were chairman of the Republican Party, given the state that it's in, I would quit."
Rush then mocked those who have criticized him for saying he wants Obama to fail, and directly challenged them to choose: You either want Obama to succeed or fail at his goal of dismantling conservatism.
"So send those fundraising requests out," Rush said in a sneering tone, in an apparent reference to Steele, adding: "Make sure you say, `We want Obama to succeed.' So people understand your compassion."
sebstar @ 3/2/2009 5:34 PM
Oh, BTW, this is the stuff that has come out of the mouth of the "de facto leader of the republican party". This bile will surface soon and will, in essence, be associated with the Republican party. Damn, Obama is a boss!!!
Top 10 Racist Limbaugh Quotes
By Casey Gane-McCalla October 20, 2008 9:45 pm
Normally I do Top 5 lists, but Rush Limbaugh’s racist comments could not be limited by such a small number. Now that he has reared his ugly once again in saying that Colin Powell is endorsing Barack Obama because he is black, it’s time to ask ourselves why is Sarah Palin appearing on the show with such an astounding racist. Is she pallin around with bigots?
If John McCain was so eager to have Barack Obama repudiate the statements of his ’supporter,’ John Lewis, shouldn’t John McCain repudiate the extremely racist comments of his biggest right wing radio supporter, Rush Limbaugh.
Here’s Our Top 10 Racist Rush Limbaugh Quotes
1. I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.
2. You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.
3. Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?
4. Right. So you go into Darfur and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind Nelson Mandela — who was bankrolled by communists for a time, had the support of certain communist leaders. You go to Ethiopia. You do the same thing.
5. Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.
6. The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.
7. They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?
8. Take that bone out of your nose and call me back(to an African American female caller).
9. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve.
10. Limbaugh attacks on Obama. Limbaugh has called Obama a ‘halfrican American’ has said that Obama was not black but Arab because Kenya is an Arab region, even though Arabs are less than one percent of Kenya. Since mainstream America has become more accepting of African-Americans, Limbaugh has decided to play against its new racial fears, Arabs and Muslims. Despite the fact Obama graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law school, Limbaugh has called him an ‘affirmative action candidate.’ Limbaugh even has repeatedly played a song on his radio show ‘Barack the Magic Negro’ using an antiquated Jim Crow era term for black a man who many Americans are supporting for president. Way to go Rush.
So Rush Limbaugh has managed to make racist attacks on four of the most admired and respected people of African descent in the past one hundred years, in Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Colin Powell and Barack Obama. He has called for the assassin of Martin Luther King to be given a medal, and said slavery was a good thing. He has claimed that Joe the Plumber, who isn’t even a plumber is more important in this election than Colin Powell, a decorated military veteran who has served honorably in three administrations. How can the Republican party stand by this man and let their candidates appear on his show? Rush Limbaugh’s comments are so racist, they’re funny, in a Borat, Archie Bunker kind of way. What is not funny is the millions of dittoheads who listen to him, who take in and re-spout all the racist rhetoric that he spits. Limbaugh’s statements are echoed in the racist, angry Palin/McCain supporters who shout ‘kill him,’ ‘terrorist,’ ‘communist,’ ‘traitor,’ ’socialist’ and ‘off with his head.’

Yeah Izybx, pretty much all of my republican friends find Limbaugh repulsive, but the man does has 20 million leaders. He has created a cottage industry on hate talk and his views --- and what are believed to be conservative tenets and principles, have been blurred.
What Obama is doing is trying to get the party, as a whole, to denounce Limbaugh and grab control of their ideology and message.
Hey, many people are willing to listen to principles such as low taxes, personal responsibility, and a strong military. But the social and racial intolerance has to go. Bye Limbaugh.

Sebstar and Izybx,
One thing that both of you are missing is that most people would not openly admit to listening to Rush. His popularity is based on the fact that he says all the things that most people wouldn't dare say in public. Therefore I wouldn't expect a Rush Limbo fan to openly admit to liking him and agreeing with his views in mixed company.
After all this man is making 33 million dollars a year off all these people "not listening" to him. It's like porn everyone claims to not own any porn yet it's a multi billion dollar industry.

Eh, I'm not so sure about that. To me he's just the inverse of Howard Stern, fatneck style. He's nationally syndicated and has had plenty of exposure through a variety of mediums. He's polarizing for sure, tho...
Just to prove this point, look at this tap dancin' ass Micheal Steele suck up to this open racist. Disgusting! This "Black" man is the head of the RNC and he is kissing the ass of a shock jock!!!!!! ...
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says he has reached out to Rush Limbaugh to tell him he meant no offense when he referred to the popular conservative radio host as an “entertainer” whose show can be “incendiary.”
“My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said in a telephone interview. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”
The dust-up comes at a time when top Democrats are trying to make Limbaugh the face of the Republican Party, in part by using ads funded by labor. Americans United for Change sent a fund-raising e-mail Monday that begins: “The Republican Party has turned into the Rush Limbaugh Party.”
Steele told CNN host D.L. Hughley in an interview aired Saturday night: “Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh — his whole thing is entertainment. He has this incendiary — yes, it's ugly.”
Steele, who won a hard-fought chairman's race on Jan. 30, told Politico he telephoned Limbaugh after his show on Monday afternoon and hoped that they would connect soon.
“I went back at that tape and I realized words that I said weren’t what I was thinking,” Steele said. "It was one of those things where I thinking I was saying one thing, and it came out differently. What I was trying to say was a lot of people … want to make Rush the scapegoat, the bogeyman, and he’s not."
“I’m not going to engage these guys and sit back and provide them the popcorn for a fight between me and Rush Limbaugh,” Steele added. “No such thing is going to happen. … I wasn’t trying to slam him or anything.”
On Monday’s show, Limbaugh reacted both to the comment and to the assertion on CBS’s “Face the Nation” by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel that the radio host is “the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party.”
Limbaugh said: “I'm not in charge of the Republican Party, and I don't want to be. I would be embarrassed to say that I'm in charge of the Republican Party in the sad-sack state that it's in. If I were chairman of the Republican Party, given the state that it's in, I would quit. I might get out the hari-kari knife because I would have presided over a failure that is embarrassing to the Republicans and conservatives who have supported it and invested in it all these years.”
On the RushLimbaugh.com home page, the transcript is labeled: “A Few Words for Michael Steele.”
In the interview with Politico, Steele called Limbaugh “a very valuable conservative voice for our party.”
“He brings a very important message to the American people to wake up and pay attention to what the administration is doing," Steele said. "Number two, there are those out there who want to look at what he’s saying as incendiary and divisive and ugly. That’s what I was trying to say. It didn’t come out that way. … He does what he does best, which is provoke: He provokes thought, he provokes the left. And they’re clearly the ones who are most excited about him.”
Asked if he planned to apologize, Steele said: “I wasn’t trying to offend anybody. So, yeah, if he’s offended, I’d say: Look, I’m not in the business of hurting people’s feelings here. … My job is to try to bring us all together.”
izybx @ 3/3/2009 10:17 AM
Its pretty obvious that the man is trying to act professional. I dont know how you see "a 'black man' ...kissing the ass of a shock jock". Perhaps you should think about your own perceptions of black men when you are dissapointed at one when he is acting like an educated political leader. I cant see why else you would feel the need to interject the ethnicity of the man into the discussion
sebstar @ 3/3/2009 12:14 PM
I injected his race because of what Limbaugh has personally said about Black people. I know most conservatives have never seen racism that they didnt want to deny, but come on, now. I just posted some of Limbaughs more famous comments in this very thread.
On top of that, Steele is the supposed head of the RNC, right? He makes a perfectly reasonable statement about Limbaugh --- that he's merely an entertainer and his show can be ugly and incendiary. Limbaugh responds by coming right out and punking Steele. Just insulted him.
Instead of Steele sticking to his guns, he apologizes to Limbaugh?? A grenade-throwing, shock jock who has already proven to hold Black people in total disdain? This is one of the more disgusting moments I have ever witnessed.
This goes to my original point, that Republicans bow an kneel to this idiot --- the true leader of the republican party. LOL, Republicans = Whig party...You guys better get it together and quick. America is not impressed.
There is nothing professional about what Steele did. At BEST, it was shameful and cowardly.
