sebstar, i'm always cool w/u but i dunno why u'r bringing up the "good luck he's not black" argument when some of those idiots pull this stuff... don't u think Kermit Washington sucker punching Rudy T was just as heinous as anything any of those non-black dudes are doing in these clips if not moreso, or Mike Tyson biting off Holyfield's ear for that matter? come on bro... let's leave the race card outta this... these are just idiot athletes that haven't learned how to control their tempers period.

I brought up race when it came to Romanoski...who was wild and out of control, yet was rarely called "thug" or was attacked by the media until he damn near killed somebody.

Same goes for Hockey...Media and fans love to hurl invective at the NBA and its players, yet continually give the barbaric sport Hockey almost a complete pass.

Complete double standards suck. Not my fault.

I stand behind those comments. The other comments had no racial connotation

The problem with black man and hockey is not race - it's about cold temperature on the ring.
And man had to fight face to face to be a man, not suc-hit simebody.

Are you really this dumb??

Are you really so serious?
Oh well, I forget that this is America, with this special sence of humor.
When somebody sleep and fall its funny, but when somebody has more sofisticated joke, its racism.

I think we need to give basketball players helmets.... And maybe some padding. Oh heck, let's give them skates and put 'em in an ice rink while we're at it. Might make the slam dunks a bit difficult. I have seen guys playing basketball on roller skates though.
orangeblobman @ 4/23/2009 11:46 AM
I have seen guys playing in wheelchairs, too, but I don't think we should let this go on in the NBA.

Balls paddings are amust... But only for players who have balls.
So you will not see it so often anyway...

Why not?
We allow Eddy and Jerom in NBA.
Guys on wheelchairs have much more heart and right to play that big host of NBA retards.

And about black guys in hockey:

SebbyX was trying to be funny. SebbyX is the "Stehpan A." of UK.

Sebby, I'd have to say your "slant" this time just went a bit off center.

I love how you've made it a habit to come into threads taking these weak jabs at me and then subsequently run out without saying anything of further consequence.

If I'm the "militant black man" or whatever nonsensical label you want to prescribe to me, because I dare have an opinion that cuts across the grain of your middle-American inspired minutia, then I say you are definitely the coward of UK. At least others will defend their position and actually engage in a convo.

Sebstar:

1) Hockey is not a barbaric sport. It's a great sport.

2) Last time I checked, there are plenty of hockey players who get that thug label, and if not that, then plenty of others. For example, Sean Avery and Scott Stevens. I'm sure there are plenty of more, but I just don't pay attention as much.

3) Basketball is a contact sport. Hockey is a collision sport where fighting is ALLOWED. It is to be expected in Hockey. However, if a cheap shot is thrown during the game, then suspensions are given and the players who give the cheap shots tend to be referred to as thugs. WHY they allow fighting? I don't know, but they do, so it's part of the sport. If they did that to basketball, which I don't promote at all, then the quality of the sport would be severely downgraded. In hockey, where it's already a collision sport, it doesn't look as bad, simply b/c it already is so physical. NOT b/c there are very few blacks in the sport.

Dont be obtuse Allanfan...this is about media and fans having a national meltdown with every NBA confrontation to the point where the NBA is completely blanketed with the "thug" "gangster" label. Fighting is fighting and in Hockey we have routinely seen horrific acts of violence and very little condemnation.

The media lost their collective minds over the relatively harmless Melo/Knicks fight from a couple of years back.

Just another way in which the American collective views the Black male. We're threats and we're dangerous and we must be controlled it seems. Even when we are doing 1/10th of what others in another sport do.

i u also said that Rudy T knows better now than to run up on a guy that way, as if he did anything to deserve that completely cowardly punch that Washington threw that nearly ended another man's life in that clip... shouldn't the disdain be placed on the guy throwing the punch rather than on the guy receiving it? i know u not trying to throw double standards here... i agree w/u complete double standards do suck... but sometimes they get thrown out there by us w/o even realizing it.

I think there is a double standard here in an of itself. What was so cowardly about the punch? Rudy was running at him full speed during a heated altercation. Kermit squared up and punched him straight up, face-to-face. It wasnt a sucker punch or behind his back.

The consequences were horrendous. That sucks. And as a result Kermit was essentially black balled for what was at worst a regrettable split-second decision. The worst thing about the incident was the fact that the shot was picture perfect, but I dont agree with the demonetization of Kermit at all and I definitely have my questions as to why that is.
orangeblobman @ 4/23/2009 2:50 PM
what double standard? Kermit almost killed a man with that punch. Rudy wasn't running to hurt him or get in the fight, he was going in there to break up the fight, to try to stop the fighting. Kermit turned around and for no good reason decked him.

Sebstar, I've read enough of your posts. You are nothing, nothing but a race baiter, and you want people to react to you. No black person can ever do any wrong in your eyes. The sooner everyone stops reacting to your bs the better it will be. Thats all you are. This is the last time I'll ever address anything you say that isn't pertaining directly to the New York Knicks.

And Kermit was supposed to know this how?? Somebody is running at him full speed during a fight. Guess were going to blame him for not having extrasensory perception or something.

seb, there is no double standard here... u're suggesting that i would feel differently about Kermit if he were white, & that wouldn't have been the case... when u run into a scrum because u wanna fight u don't go running in headlong w/o throwing a punch or at least having your arms up to defend yourself... Rudy T was obviously trying to break things up in that clip & he got a straight right haymaker to the chops for his effort... that to me was a cowardly move on Kermit's part, whether he was white or black, & the cowardice behind his action is the reason he was demonized by the media, not because of the color of his skin.

believe me as a minority myself, i realize there are things that determine people's attitudes in the world that are strictly race influenced, but these examples are not good ones to support that argument... in every case here the athlete is simply demonstrating his own lack of self control & overreacting in the moment... i have no idea what race has anything to do w/why people's perceptions of each individual incident would be effected... Marty McSorley high sticking Brashear from the back was 1 of the most heinous acts on this list, & for that the media came down very hard on him, the league banned him, & the man himself was brought to tears by the shame of his own act... McSorley's a white hockey player... so i don't get the point ur trying to reach w/this argument dude.

Sebstar: Having a tough day buddy .I have to admit that I think injecting race into the original thread seems a little odd and out of no where. When I was reading your thread I immediately thought you must be having a "bad white person day". I'm not sure why race came up.

But now that race has been injected, I do agree with Sebstar on this. It's always amazed me how a couple guys like Carmelo and nate can throw a couple sissy punches at each other and the world is ready to change the rules of basketball. Carmelo is called a thug. Nate is called a punk. Meanwhile every night some hockey player gets into a fight for no reason and we hail their toughness. I do think there is a double standard in how NBa players are viewed as thugs while hockey players are viewed as tough guys. I'll keep it benign and not bring up race, and ask someone to explain what the difference is.

As for the Rudy Tomjanovich thing, Sebbie baby, how do you defend this?

Exactly.
If Carmelo and Nate will fight like a man, not like old ladies or 5-years kids in kindergarden, they will gane more respect.

I said "white bbal players HAD to work harder" because of their physical deficiencies. Long white dudes are not the best athletes in the world.
And if you think people are created equal - you are 100% right but it is nothing to do with their physical ability but more with the right to be happy.
Taking words out of context is not a fair game.

Taking words out of context is not a fair game.

Couple things:

Number 1: You were not taken out of context

Number 2: "white players HAD to work harder" is also a fallacy. Like the 4 minute mile, the more David Lee's, Chris Anderson's, Dirk Nowitski's, Chase Budinger's and BJ Mullen's of the world show that this is a fallacy and not reality, the more white athletes will steer away from hockey and volleyball and enter the world of basketball. It's also a simplistic argument. Do you think that Travis Knight had to work harder on his game to make it to the NBA then guys like Nate Robinson, Chris Paul, Isiah thomas, Spud Webb etc. There are more white hockey players is this the result of an inherent skating advantage or societal influences?

Perhaps people will respond less defensively now that you are saying it and not me. What I have been trying to express to a T. Good looks.
As for the Rudy Tomjanovich thing, Sebbie baby, how do you defend this?

To both TMS and Bip:
Not so much defend as try to understand. I cant find the horror in taking a face-to-face swing at somebody who is running full speed at you in the midst of a fight. It was a natural instinctual reaction in the context of the situation. Did he grab a weapon? Did he pursue Rudy T? McSorely turned his stick into a dangerous weapon, he knew what he was doing, so I dont see the comparison.

To me the convo begins and ends with this: Intent.

The results were horrendous, no doubt. But all this hindsight, "he should have done this, and he should have known that" is unfair. I know its not a popular opinion, but its the way I feel. Was his action the best possible reaction, hell no, but he's not a monster in my eyes.
