Just molded my new mouthguard and did some stretches and ate chicken. I am coming out of retirement after a 2 year absence from basketball. What are your pre-game routines, nutrition, etc.?
TMS @ 4/22/2009 8:35 PM
stretching, some grimacing, a pre-game cigarette & a bottle of vitamin water.
orangeblobman @ 4/22/2009 11:55 PM
Oh man, nice TMS. My teammate had a cigarette before the game. I don't get it haha.

Had 5 points, like 5 reboudns, and 4 fouls tonight. way out of shape, but getting there. By the 2nd or third game, we'll be fine.

Lost 59-58...we had the ball with 9 seconds but my friend got triple teamed at half court and threw it away.

I will try eating lots of bagels on game day next week.
TMS @ 4/23/2009 1:42 AM
lol... i don't get it either bro.

hey, ur half way to a double double dude... use the D Lee technique & play absolutely no defense... conserve ur energy for grabbing rebounds.

I like to get the ol New York Knick chestbumps going but no one else on my team likes it lol.

I usually just stretch and try and eat a banana about an hour before tip.

We lost our game on Tues night. We're losing 34-14 at the half, we changed up our D and ended up holding them to 12 points in the 2nd half. Still lost 46-42. Terrible offensive game for us, but our D in the 2nd half was lockdown - gotta move forward with it next game. Pretty quiet game for me too, only 5 points, a few boards and steals, but my shot was barely off all game. Just couldn't get anything to stay down. Oh well.
Bippity10 @ 4/23/2009 10:20 AM
I normally show up 1/2 to an hour early. People think I'm dedicated, but the reality is that if I don't show up early to stretch and shoot, my back and knees will hate me the next day. Plus I love shooting around in an empty gym. My jumper is so beautiful that I love to admire it alone from time to time. I do at least 25 minutes of stretching, I shoot from the time I'm done until they blow the whistle to start the game. I still have old habits from when I played competitively. I stretch with headphones on and listen to

"Lean Back"-Recently added to my pre-game ritual
"Good Vibrations"-Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch-Whatever dude, I like the song.
"Paid in Full"-Eric B and Rakim
"Jack the Ripper"-LL(I created that nickname for myself when I was young. That was the persona I used down the stretch of games. Last 5 minutes I became "Jack the Ripper" a guy that will cut your heart out. That persona helped me to develop late game confidence as a kid)
"Cummin at cha"-EPMD

I eat well normally so I don't really change my diet. I do change my last meal before a game to prevent the milk vomit fiasco two years ago. Wasn't pretty. About an hour before game time, I'll have a chicken salad for dinner or something light. I'm still competitive so I hate when I show up to a game and can't perform well because I was lazy with what I ate earlier.

Then the game starts and I stand on the perimeter, jack up shots from wherever I catch them(and I mean wherever), yell at teammates for not passing me the ball, if it's coed I will normally talk trash to the worst playing female under 5 feet tall. Don't really want to mess with any other females because they will kill you. Nobody dirtier than an angry female on a basketball court. From time to time I'll stay on one end of the court so that the fans can get a look at me without other players being in the way(this can also be autograph time). I talk to the refs a lot, joke with friends that are watching and overall just behave like a big idiot. People seem to love it.

When the playoffs role around it all changes and I start killing biotches.

Normally if someone tries to get the team pumped up before a game I make fun of them and then freeze them out during game time. I'm the captain of my team so if you tried that chest bumping nonsense I'd probably bench your asse

By mentioning post counts you have actually lowered my self-esteem. Thanks dude. I had actually forgotten about my low post count, but now it's fresh in my mind again. And now I have to make everyone pay by complaining relentlessly. Good job ruining the board my friend.

as for my post to Bitty. That was the product of about 7 or 8 political discussions that all ended the same way. My wife says that I keep things in and then get angry and take things out on the cat. I felt in order to save my cat I had to reach into my innermost feelings and let Bitty know how I felt. I will happily do it again.

LOL, Bip. You are seriously one funny dude.

Good stuff Bippity10..what a routine. That is bread and butter. I will consider listening to music as I warm up, but right now I will run on the mountain, sprint in intervals and jog between, I hope this brings me to game shape within a few weeks. My mouthguard makes me feel so tough.

On a serious note. I was really out of shape wind wise and had about two weeks before this season started. Inspired by Marbury I would run up our local mountain. It's not that big, it takes about 2 1/2 minutes to run from the bottom to the top. It's really steep and so tiring to run up that hikers with their kids were walking up faster than I was running. But two weeks later I was amazed how strong my wind was, I lost weight and my base just felt stronger. I now run the mountain twice in a row(5 minutes approx) 3 times a week. For the first time in about 3 years I can say that I am actually in good shape.
orangeblobman @ 4/23/2009 12:05 PM
Interesting, man, so uphill runs. My mountain has a trail all around it with lots of uphills and downhills, maybe I will try to hit the uphills hard and walk, jog the rest.

Inspired by Marbury? haha

I definitely feel like it benefits me way more than if I was running distances. I can literally go their, start running and 5 minutes later I'm done with a workout and I'm seeing results. The five minutes really sucks my a-hola but I am seeing results. Give it a try and if it works, please write a letter of thanks to Mr. Marbury.
