i bet Allan Houston still never misses in practice either

VDesai @ 7/1/2009 5:46 PM
Guy looks like he moves in molasses but he has a sweet shot. He's a worthwile pickup.

exactly...i thought i was watching a replay in slow motion...lol...

I always thought the guy was an Allan Houston clone. He is very tall and strong SG like Houston and gets his shot off effortlessly from any angle or distance like Houston with the same great form and balance. I think he makes the Knicks and really is like an additional first round pick.

We got our wish Briggs. Let's hope his head is on straight and he's ready to improve his game.

Remember how most of us wanted Almond over Chandler in the draft a couple of years ago?

Korolev is doing nothing for his Moscow Dynamos so I don't think he's the savior.
BRIGGS @ 7/1/2009 6:46 PM
I wouldve liked to see them give Marcus Williams a fair chance as a past first PG as well. Why not? We need help as of now at the PG position the kid is 6-3 with two+ years of NBA experience and only 23 years old. The SL is the land of opportunity.

Well none of these guys are saviors but there HAS to be a reason this guy was taken in the lotto (although it was the Clips)

Funny, sounds alot like Gallo lol.

I'm not looking for saviors, but it should be more fun watching this group play.

There are many more "stories" on this team than last year's group.

I wish they could increase the number of games we play so we could have a chance to see more draftees from other teams perform, and rotate our lineups so most of the player we have could have multiple 25/30MPG outings for us to look at. (Yeah, I know it costs $$, but you have more of an opportunity to see a player get into the flow of a game- something you can't get with limited minutes on the floor. I also realize that teams get to see a lot more of what a player can do in practice, so perhaps I'm just being greedy, but it would still be nice IMO.)

i don't know. i'm not looking to pee in any cheerios but if the man who brought us jeff malone can't find any use for a 6'6" sg with an outside touch . . . . .

I thought as part of your 10k celebration you were going to piss in Scoo, I mean Bip's cheerios.

Finestrg @ 7/1/2009 7:06 PM
I like the move. 6'6" SG with a good strong build. Above average rebounder, and a guy who got to the line at a very good clip in HS and at Rice. After seeing limited video on him, I don't think he's Allan Houston however. Not nearly as graceful. But it's a good move. He could help us. And I agree - it is like getting another 1st round pick. Not bad...
TMS @ 7/1/2009 7:34 PM
wanted Dionte to be added but Almond is a similar looking player w/similar size & skillset... i think this can be a nice find for us if Donnie holds onto him & doesn't bring in some undersized journeyman vet.

yeah, he can shoot three's like layups, but he is so damn slow...wow, I had to watch the video again just to make sure I was watching that right.

He plays a little more old school. I don't remember Allan Houston being a thoroughbred. You can see he can get up. I think if he can come in and shoot 44-45% from 3--I think we'll have a heckuva gem of a player for this system

sebstar @ 7/1/2009 7:59 PM
Obviously Almond is better than 99.99% of the world when it comes to playing basketball, so producing a Youtube clip or two isnt that hard. His shooting isnt the problem, its his below average athleticism. He'd murder in three point shootouts, but can he get that damn thing off in the NBA?

But then again Kyle Korver was murderous on the 76ers, but he seemed to die off in Utah. Perhaps their offensive schemes arent conducive to pure, spot up shooters. That said, Almond's complete and utter failure in Utah has me a bit pessimistic, but I think inviting him to our summer league is a great move. Almond has a wonderful specific talent and he deserves a second chance. This cat is tailor made for a Pringles upgrade.

Then you don't remember him coming out of Tennessee. Houston was an above average athletic player in college. He could run the floor, drive and shoot with deep range. Hill and Houston's athleticism used to give the veteran Knicks fit back in the early 90s. Doug Collins had that team running. The Knicks version of Houston is nothing like the Pistons version. I always felt like the Knicks didn't get that version.

I watched enough Jazz games and Almond biggest comparison to Houston is skin tone. Slow release on his shot, two left feet, can't create his own shot and ultra slow. They both can make three pointers but you might as well compare Gallo to Houston then.

I'm thrilled to have Almond on the SL roster, but I am with you. I always thought that the one guy who IS like Houston is Gallo.

Almond Joy

Just imagine Allan Houston talking to Morris Almond about quantum shooting mechanics

Powder Springs, Georgia is one of those quiet, suburban communities where players are taught to conform. The most interesting transition will be that of Almond's to the big city.

I'm overjoyed by the possibility of Almond taking some of the shots left on the table by Quentin Richardson.
JayNYC @ 7/3/2009 10:00 AM
Morris Almond, can be a productive scorer in D'Antoni's system. I like this summer league addition. We need shooters on this team in the worst way! Look for him to be around in November.
firefly @ 7/3/2009 10:18 AM
Almond can be what James Jones was for MDA in Phoenix. A one-dimensional guy, but he does that one thing real real well.
