Not sure if anyone else is following this. Earlier this year a South Korean ship was torpedoed and sunk. 46 South Korean sailors died. A few days ago, South Korea came out and said they investigated thoroughly an North Korea is responsible. No surprise there. BBC is now reporting China is no longer backing the North.

Shit just got real! These type of declarations are generally precursors to war. There is little else the North can do. They are a failed state. They have no economy and most of their people are always starving. They have a massive army so they might as well try to invade and sign a treaty and get some trade going.
South Korea says an investigation involving international teams uncovered indisputable evidence that North Korea fired a torpedo at the ship.
The South is done pussy footing around with the North. I think there is a war coming, and its coming soon!
The South is doing ***** footing around with the North. I think there is a war coming, and its coming soon!
Yea I think they are about to goto war. If things get really out of control I wonder what China's response will be... but the US has a base in South Korea if I'm not mistaken if so it's time to start relocating.
clinton has said that the US will do whatever it can to help the south against any further aggressions from the north. that can only mean one thing....and china, who as a country have come a very very long way in building their economy, education system and developing their cities, really have no need for the north as they represent a past that no longer coincides with china's future.

just what do you expect South Korea to do? attack the North & risk the entire Asian economy being torn to shreds, or even worse a nuclear response on South Korea & Japan by the North? they are responding in the only way they possibly can, with economic sanctions against the North & ceasing trade... before this attack South Korea was 1 of the main trading partners with North Korea... they have since ceased trade & blocked any North Korean trade ships from South Korean waters... there is little else they can do without inciting a revival of the Korean War... my fear is they are headed in that direction already because the North is desperate, but the South Koreans do not want to be the ones to start it again.

S. Korea is doing the right thing. But I don't think they have a choice other than war because the North will attack again. Kim Jong Il is absolutely desperate. His country is in shambles and he was already losing the support of senior leadership. When he had that serious illness where is almost died, the military brass completely lost faith.
The government has been in chaos for the last 4 or 5 months. The younger brother tried to get the older brother assassinated, failed and then got banished. Then the older brother moved to China for a few months and now is back but might not succeed his father. The only hope Kim Jong Il has is to go to war and get some sanctions lifted. He will declare war but from what I have read, the military command will not launch the nukes and there will another stalemate. I think there will be some sort of compromise after Kim Jong Il dies and north and south will reunify. From what I have read, some very powerful North Korean leaders have been in talks with South Korean intelligence and its a real possibility.
They say re-unification (which every older Korean I have spoken to hopes for) will be great for the Asian economy. It will be a fresh market/resource and will flourish inside 10 years. I honestly think the entire Korean peninsula is just waiting for Kim Jong Il to die. But first, there will be one more war.
Just saw this one: North Korea "We're Heading To 'The Brink Of War' - the comments were delivered at an extremely rare press conference in the North Korean capital presided over by a uniformed official with the secretive country's National Defense Commission, which is headed by leader Kim Jong Il.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/28...
SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea's most powerful state organ said Friday that South Korea faked the sinking of one of its own warships and warned that the Korean peninsula was edging ever closer to war.Pyongyang has made similar statements through state media since a multinational probe said last week that a torpedo fired by a North Korean submarine downed the vessel, killing 46 sailors in the worst attack on the South Korean military since the Korean War.
This time, though, the comments were delivered at an extremely rare press conference in the North Korean capital presided over by a uniformed official with the secretive country's National Defense Commission, which is headed by leader Kim Jong Il.
North Korea has denied any responsibility and warned that retaliation or punishment for the sinking would mean armed conflict. So far, it has issued various threats, including one to cut off South Korean access to a joint industrial zone in the North and wage "all-out war."
there is nothing for the South to gain by inciting an all out war with the North... the idea that they faked the sinking of one of their own warships & implicate the North for an unprovoked attack is ridiculous... tell that to all the families who have lost loved ones who were serving on the sunken warship that are mourning their deaths.
the truth is the North & South have engaged in several skirmishes over those waters & over the DMZ since the "end" of the Korean War that have resulted in many deaths... there's also been other instances that took innocent civilian lives, including a terrorist act enacted by 2 North Korean agents that planted a bomb on a Korean Airlines civilian airliner that exploded & killed 115 passengers... the South has consistently tried to use restraint rather than act rashly in response because they have not wanted to incite another war in the region... why would they want war now with a struggling nation that's going through economic collapse?
if it's war that breaks out, it will be because the North has no other options... the South is doing whatever it can to avoid it... it's true, many Koreans wish for reunification someday, but they don't want it to come at the expense of war, trust me on this one.
Yes of course they don't want to start the fight. The South has nothing to gain from it. Only problem is that the North needs war. There will either be war or a coup in the North. Hope that bastard Kim Jong Il dies soon.
the problem isn't as simple as eliminating 1 man... their entire nation is completely brainwashed at this point... they have no idea about how people truly live in the South because their entire lives they've been brought up on North Korean propaganda driven education... it will take many years to undo the damage that's been done by the Communist regime... it's not the same as when the Berlin wall fell & East & West Germany reunited.

Thats a good point. It has to start sometime and hopefully soon. I would love to travel to Pyongyang.
so would i... many parts of the North are supposedly very beautiful... would love to be able to see it someday.

Not to mention all of those beautiful North Korean women who would just love a "rich" Korean American.
lol... that's what i'm talkin' about.
