Rooney looked kind of dispirited but him and Gerrard were behind everything good we did in the gmae. Every touch and pass from Rooney was excellent. I do believe he would do better up front with someone prompting the midfield like he has at United. Heskey was MOM to me tho, he really had a great game. Onyewu couldnt get near him. Very impressive. Big pressure on the next gsame not just to win but to win with style. USA played well, contained England for big portions of the game. Itll all come down to Donovan and Dempsey for you guys. Glen Johnson looked dangerous as wellbut I think we could have sent it down the flanks more and created more chances. Frickin Rob Green smh.Good win by South Korea btw, they look like possibly even winning the group.
I don't agree that England controlled 90% of the game. 90% of the first half certainly, but the second half was a lot more evenly contested.

Dont know about that. The only time you had a chance in the second half was once King went off injured and Altidore exploited Carraghers lack of pace. We may not have been very threatening - frustratingly so for me - but at no point - outside of that one Altidore chance - did you guys have us on the back foot. Someone to control tempo from midield (Carrick comes to mind in the absence of Barry) would have done a world of good for England, and Rooney would not then have had to come short for the ball every damn time. Imagine the chances we would have created if every time Heskey won the ball - and he won it a LOT - Rooney would have been threatening the goal instead of prompting from nearer the halfway line?
This doesn't look like 90% domination, ball possession was about even.

Stats don't really tell the story in soccer. A pass to the goalkeeper can be considered a shot attempt. It's not as clear cut as statistics for other sports.

I was looking mainly at time of possession. That's the most useful; stat to look at if you want to see which side dominated the ball.
The English Keeper will never live down that goal.
Nate should have played soccer. He'd started riots!

I'm with you... especially because all the "experts" were saying the US was going to get dominated in time of possession. I watched the game with a bunch of redcoats and once the game was tied they spent the majority of the game with their head in their hands
I would be interested in the second half numbers... though england was better then
Here you goooooo baby... 2:0 for Germany after 30 minutes!!!!!!! YUPPPP!!!! I love it!!!!!!!!
Australia is a good team but they are being easily outplayed. This is the classic German machine at action. Engineered to win.

Actually this new geration of German players (like Özil, Müller and Marin) have some really new aspects in their game... they love to play offensive quick soccer into the box... are technically highly skilled and can take their opponents one on one!!!
Its a really nice performance... only thing is the defense is not really at its best!!!

I was referring to German soccer in general and the Polish forwards that scored the goals for you guys.
I know... but isnt it nice for once to see a German team play technically highly skilled and quick soccer!!! :-)
Yeah you got to love that Germany has become a multicultural nation!!! Same thing with nations like France, Netherlannds etc. - btw. you forgot that one goal was prepared by the turkish heritaged Mesut Özil and well oookay the second one came from Philip Lahm... ;-)
No seriously soccer as a mirror of society... got to love it!!! I do... ;-)
that red card was bullshit and has severalty handicapped Australia. In a sport where GD counts, they should be prudent with red cards.

True it was never a red card!!! We would still have won though!!!
By the way... Cacau... who also scored is brasilian born!!! ;-)
Dominant showing by the Germans. I love Aussies being embarrassed, too much leftover ill feeling from Cricket.

You are right. Germany won the game before it started. They are too good to have trouble with Australia. But Australia is a good team. They did well in 2006 and I picked them to be second in their group behind Germany. The GD really matters and it could have stayed 2-0 if Australia was not playing minus 1.
Let me ask you something dodger: Why did Podolski suck with Bayern but seems so sharp with the national team?

A man after my own heart. That might be the reason why I secretly take joy in their embarrassment.
Same reason why other good players sometimes have trouble there... Gomez could become a second example but the jury is still out on him... Munich is THE dominante team in Germany, the pressure is really high on all players for young guys sometimes that can be pretty difficult. Another aspect is that coming as the dominant players at their clubs all over sudden they are "just" one of many extraordinary players. For strikers who need space the switch to Munich is especially difficult, as most of the time the opponents will play very very defensive and position themselves very close to the own goal so there is far less space all over sudden.
By the way he is a little bit of a headcase too and had a really bad season in his hometown club Cologne this year too.
Mesut Ozil. Just.....wow. Wow.
