This is a fair deal. Both teams had to concede and bend a little, but at the end, its a fair deal. I know most here would hate to see Gallo leave, but seriously, he plays the same position as Melo and would be reduced to a 6th man role, pehaps 18-20 mins per and in the long run cant see him being happy with that. Was hoping to keep felton out of the deal but, so be it.

Wait a minute.. Denver didnt say Yes to the deal yet. Also, Felton not even a championship pg. Peace it Raymond! Billups, despite the age is a big game playa! He's made some big shots in his career.
Knicks could buy him out after this season and grab another pg for 1 yr until Deron or Chris paul arrives. I would take Deron over Paul any day but since Chris is Melo's boy, he's more likely to be here in 2 yrs.
This isn't the coup that I was hoping for, but that's about as much as the Knicks should offer for Carmelo. It doesn't make them a contender this year, but it takes care of the bigger pieces with Amare and Melo on the same team now and opens a nice 3-4 year window in which NY could actually win a title.

Losing ray's gonna be tough to swallow but that's how you gotta look at it if this goes down -- hopefully we get D-Will or Paul a little further down the road to complete our own big 3..
With Melo and Stat making 20M a year I don't know how adding another max guy is plausable.

That's cause you aren't projecting. And you are also denying what the Knicks' management is thinking, which is that they LOVE him. MDA says it after every game and we all know that Walsh loves big men.
Moz has barely played basketball relative to his American counterparts. No AAU ball over in Russia, and he started late, like in the last year or so of high school equivalent.
Dude is legit 7'1" and active. And he practices HARD. You can't teach those things, but you can mold and add to them. And that's why the Knicks love him and why you will see this kid blossom.
He still has his weak points, but you are missing something on the court if you think he sucks.
I think this is still a little much. I can justify giving up any two of Gallo, Chandler, Felton, Fields and one of AR and Mozgov. Three + one is pushing it, IMHO. I think it's hard to justify giving up so much for a guy we can sign outright next year by simply renouncing Chandler. Granted, the starting lineup, as mentioned of Mozgov, Amar'e, Melo, Fields, Billups is a damn good one, the bench would be the worst in the league. Furthermore, how many years do we expect Billups to go? If Billups is a stopgap towards getting Chris Paul or Dwight Howard in 2012, ok, but it is still a steep price. In comparison, if we want to clear up room to have Amar'e, Melo, Paul, why not just trade guys like Gallo, AR, etc... for expirings + picks and have a reserve of some very young players who will improve, to go with that core. That's the only part I don't really get.
But, if we pull it off as is, I can live with it. Melo is still a huge upgrade and should, at least, catapult us above Atlanta as one of the top 5 teams in the East.

Moz, in year 2012/13, has his projected salary go DOWN from previous year, so that's a least forward thinking by Donnie.
It would be total genius if Donnie build in a team/player option into Amare and Melo's contract in 2013 so that they could both opt out and then have 3 max guys re-sign all in one transaction at lower prices. But that is prob too much to hope for.
