Prayers for the safety of the missing and displaced.
Condolences for those that didn't make it
Hope for the world that their nuclear reactors hold up
One of the reactors had an explosion this morning.
Solace@ 3/12/2011 10:34 AM
Been following this all morning, as far as the nuclear reactor, not so great. However, one update I heard earlier on CNN is that the explosion was not actually one of the reactors, so that's a good thing. I'm hoping and still think they're going to get the reactors under control before a meltdown scenario (which actually may not be possible with this design anyway?). There's been some radiation leak which is not good, but I think it'll be contained. Scary stuff either way.

Supposedly the reactor itself didn't explode, so that is definitely good news. Hopefully they can keep this thing contained and fix that building ASAP.

If you read credible news sources, it sounds like they're starting to gain control of the situation, and at this point, the reactor's heat is less than .5% of what it is normally, so a meltdown is extremely unlikely.
Then you read CNN and they throw dramatic headlines out there with no evidence to back it up if you read the article, other than the evacuation zone size was increased. Starting to get very disappointed with CNN.
I think it's going to be fine, thank goodness.

Actually they found Cesium and Iodine outside the plant which indicates there was some melting maybe of old rods...Also 9 people tested at a hospital tested positive for radiation exposure on their clothing..

watching those cars fleeing for dear life against that fast moving mass of water & debris is the scariest thing i've ever seen... i can't even imagine what the sight of that coming at you would feel like you're completely helpless that water moves way faster than any car can move.

The modern world has never seen anything like this--this country is imploding--it's destroyed. Market is being held up by gov debt or it would be down 205_ it wont matter because thats where its going to go. The economy in Japan is now at standstill. They need to worry more about just surviving this--making sure people re ok and get food water and shelter for now.

I agree Briggs, I think all the major countries need to act now to help these people out and make sure they have basic neccessities and can at least attempt to start coming out of this chaos. But the effect of what this on Japan's very large super-economy are yet to transpire. Tonight is a goo dtime to sell stocks.

scariest vid i've seen yet... this gets you real up close & personal w/what people are seeing when the water first starts rushing into a city environment... i can't even imagine the feeling it must have been surreal yet absolutely terrifying at the same time

Incredibly sad story but still a miracle this man survived... apparently he & his wife were washed out to sea by the wave, but she got swept away while he survived
Ugh, those are ridiculous comments, but then whoever put that image together was clearly looking for it, as the term was highlighted. Let's not get distracted because there are a few idiots out there.

Feeling really terrible for Japan right now.
Japan has all my sympathy btw
I wasn't looking to distract, just to come with an interesting compilation of idiots I stumbled upon in relation to the same topic. I was just amazed to see so many of them, being inhumane as phuck, but I know it's a tiny minority of people who thinks like that. I just guess they haven't heard of Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

clearly being the only country to ever use a nuclear weapon on the other in the history of human kind means nothing to these dolts they must think the Japanese got what they deserved & that's that... it's scary to know this kind of ignorance persists in today's world it makes me sad for people that are so closeminded & hateful.

While I agree in principle about taking the high road and all, I think its essential to actually address this problem instead of ignoring it. Because in my limited perception its a growing problem. People are becoming increasingly more selfish, consumed by their righteousness and less and less human. This is just one manifestation of a wider more pervasive issue.
