Knicks · Looking like no Houston pick swap (page 1)

earthmansurfer @ 4/3/2011 7:38 AM
Houston is 3 games out with 6 to go. They still play: Atlanta, Sac, @New Orleans, Clippers, Dallas, @Minny
Memphis is up 3.5 games with 5 to go. Left is: Clippers, Sac, NO, @Porltland, @Clippers
New Orleans is up 3 with 6 to go. Left is: Indiana, Houston, Phoenix, @Memphis, Utah, @Dallas

There is definitely a chance that Houston gets in but I say hat Memphis continues there good play and Chris Paul doesn't let that happen in NO.
Houston has some tough games against Atlanta and Dallas and then NO also, as they don't want to get knocked out. Sac and Clippers are no push overs either. NO probably has the easiest remaining schedule.

We all know what 1 or 2 draft spots can do...and then there is the principle of that trade that many of us would like to forget.

Markji @ 4/3/2011 12:04 PM
I would be pissed if we had to swap picks with Houston, who screwed us in that trade with all of their little extras like the swap of picks.
TheGame @ 4/3/2011 5:45 PM
We are not swapping picks, which makes last year's trade slightly more palatable, even though it was still a bad deal. We should be picking in the 15-17 range, which will be a good place to take a chance on a young PG. There are a few with some potential.
tj23 @ 4/3/2011 5:52 PM
I've seen Nolan Smith going a little later on some mocks. I wouldn't mind him at all. He runs the pick and roll a lot.

I keep hearing the conspiracy theory that part of the Denver deal may have been for Denver to trade back Mozgov for our pick come draft day. Any draft gurus here have an opinion on potential picks vs. the Moz?

I think there will be better bigs available than Mozgov at our pick, but definitely no better centers. I wouldn't necessarily be opposed. There should be two rebounding fiends available: Kenneth Faried and Jordan Williams. Chris Singleton seems to be a uk.com favorite. And everyone seems to be sleeping on Matt Howard.

Faried is on the "smaller" side but he has been compared to Rodman and is built bigger than Ben Wallace was in college. He's who I want the Knicks to draft. He went to a small school, Morehead St, but he had a nasal passage condition in high school that went misdiagnosed as asthma. Had it not mbeen for that he would have been more actively recruited

Williams played C at Maryland and is rebounding machine but he seems to project into an old school banging PF than a C. He's got some size but he may not come out because Maryland had a tough season, so his stock will be lower than it should be. But he went for 16 adn 16 agaisnt Duke in the ACC tournament, for example

Chris Singleton is a SF/PF type, but he was the go to player on his team and is a defensive beast. He's a FSU guy, so if you're a fan of TD's defense you'll like the blocking version. He was injured and came back during the tournmament, which is why they went further than most thought

Matt Howard is on Butler. He gets tough rebounds. He makes tough shots. Seems to be a humble, good guy. He is the common link between on the winning Butler has been doing. His PPS is high. He's kind of a string bean and 6'8" but I would love drafting him.

Olbrannon @ 4/4/2011 7:01 AM
Would love to see Chris Singleton on the Knicks doubt he falls that far. The Knicks have taken guards and more guards but I'd expect they would take a big with the first this time. He would give them a defender like none they have now.

Farried does look a nice player and Skeng from VCU did some good down and dirty in the trenches.

Matt Howard is kind of like Landry though. An excellent player who makes the most of limited talent and perhaps limited upside with energy, hustle and smart play.

Olbrannon @ 4/4/2011 10:13 AM
Also not a sure thing CS comes out with the way the NBA and an imminent lockout are looming.

Houston lost last night to Sacramento and I wasn't counting on that. Unfortunately Memphis lost too. They now have 4 games left and are 3 games out.

Go Knemphis! Go Zach! Prove Bitty right again!

I have said it before and i will reiterate that Markieff Morris is a great option for us. He would have a chance to start at center for us right away and definitely improve our defense and rebounding while fitting in the offense with his athleticism and ability to shoot from the outside. He could be a pick and roll stud as well. I see his upside as somewhere in between Drew Gooden and Al Horford. Also, someone asked the question in yesterday's ESPN chat if he would be a good fit with the knicks and David Thorpe said absolutely.

I agree with you and so does the entire basketball world, which is why he's a lotto pick and likely unavailable when the Knicks draft

He will be drafted between 10-20, but the lottery is not a forgone conclusion. Many may feel he lacks upside to be a top 14 pick.

those are OK prospects but I would 100% take Mosgov back for the our pick. Mosgov next to Amare and Melo is an impact player and fills the teams biggest need. Hard worker, likes NY, teammates liked him, etc etc

If the Knicks extend Billups, they'd have to clear cap space to make that trade.

You know a player sucks when a team gives you away for nothing/fodder TWICE.

and yet he will have made like $5-$7mm in the NBA over his 6 years or so. Not a bad piece of chedder

Thanks for the writeup, didn't see it until just now.
I don't watch much college ball, but Faried definitely impressed me in the Louisville game. What did he have, something like 17 rebs? Obviously a small sample size, but after watching us get killed on the boards on a nightly basis, that's enough to start drooling over.

I've got to look into Jordan Williams more, definitely sounds like a nice option if he declares, based on your writeup.
