Knicks · Best performance by a Knick in the playoffs (page 1)

loweyecue @ 4/19/2011 11:14 PM
This was already posted in the game hread, but I think it deserves it's own thread. Melo is the most dominant offensive force in the game right now to think people thought the trade was so horrible and Denver was clearly overpaid. Give this guy some love people, he did everything one plyaer can ever be asked to do and almost beat the Bost Effing Celtics by himslef.
AnubisADL @ 4/19/2011 11:15 PM
Melo is a beast. I wish he would have forced the last shot instead of passing but I guess his legs were dead.
VDesai @ 4/19/2011 11:16 PM
Yes definitely. But we may need him to even put this one in the dust too. Hopefully this is just one of many great ones.
matt @ 4/19/2011 11:19 PM
That was just an amazing game by Carmelo. Last game he was criticized for forcing the shot, now some people might say he shouldn't have passed, but either way, he was unstoppable all game. He was in Jordan mode.

Really a shame that the Celtics are so good at denying our stars the ball at the end of games. If Knicks don't figure a way around that, this will probably be done by game 4

MinsHeartsReezy @ 4/20/2011 12:11 AM
I wasn't exactly high on Melo ever, but after tonight, I have so much respect for him!
He played his heart out and just through sheer force of WILL he kept us in the game and put us in a position to win.
It's how many years has it been since we had anyone on this team that could go out there with that much conviction and is capable of doing what he just did??? Seriously, he put this team on his back and just would not be denied. Sure we didn't win, but the fact that it took a whole damn championship Celtics team to beat basically Carmelo Anthony and a bunch of bench players and rookies...I'm impressed and I look forward to the rest of this series and I can't be mad at this loss. There's been too much crap going on for the past 10 years to be mad at this. We should be thanking our lucky stars that we have people on this team (STAT & MELO) who actually want success as badly as the fans do. If you think otherwise, that this team aint **** without a win, you need to come down outta those clouds. We didn't even have hope of making the playoffs, yet alone to be competitive. IMHO we get at least STAT or Chauncy healthy again, we can win this...Clyde thinks so too.
fishmike @ 4/20/2011 7:57 AM
obviously a great game. Where was it game one? I mean if we got a shred of that the series would be tied 1-1

At the end of the day they are just #s and as great as his game was it makes the total lemon in game one hurt even more.

Best performance? Knicks are down 0-2

misterearl @ 4/20/2011 8:30 AM
Forget the scoring and the rebounding. Carmelo put an entire basketball team on his back and damn near delivered a miracle.

The most important element of his performance was the assists.

"At this rate, the Knicks will need help just to finish the series. Maybe they can borrow a player or two from that very deep roster in Denver." - Harvey Araton, NYT

Imagine if Amare is on the receiving end of the pass that Jeffries became indecisive about.

fishmike - offensively?

What about the 17 rebounds and 9 assists?

C'mon son, you are being awfully stubborn with your gold stars.

Speaking of which, how can a player go 0-11 from the field and be +10 in the stat book? Bill Walker's line confounds me.

TymeLessKnicks @ 4/20/2011 9:37 AM
had that been a win. i repeat, had that been a win! every media outlet would call melo a god!

Had Melo had a repeat of Game One there would be pitchforks and torches.

Gymkata @ 4/20/2011 9:59 AM
His shot-making (while getting roughed up) was extraordinary, but I was most impressed with his leadership. He got other guys involved, barked at them on the court to keep them rolling and played physical, bully basketball.

I'm not sure what else you can ask for from a superstar. And yes, that performance last night was a superstar performance.

Some guys are haters and are going to hate no matter what Carmelo does. The only thing surprising is no "diva" comment.

if your calling me a hater just be man enough to say it, dont elude to it.

He's turned the diva act around (thank god). Seems once he bought into the system (whatever that means) he's played amazing basketball that translated into WINS.

I dont hate on any player, certainly not Knick players. I simply call it like I see it.

Melo played a GREAT game. Awesome effort. We lost. What do you want from me? I guess that effort in a losing cause excuses the total lemon he laid in game one?

Since you clearly have ZERO clue on how I feel or think about Melo and the Knicks (Ive explained it in other posts) spare us all these comments yea?

"Forget the scoring and the rebounding. Carmelo put an entire basketball team on his back and damn near delivered a miracle."

Earl... it wasnt a miracle though was it? You know who's STILL talking about Dwight Howard's 40+ point monster game one against the Hawks? Nobody, they lost. It doesnt matter. Its not hating. Its reality.

I EXPECT Melo to have big games. Thats why you trade away half your picks and starters for, a guy who can have big games.

I'm behind Melo a 100%, as with ALL the Knicks. Unlike some of TRUE haters around here who for years dogged Gallo, or Douglas or whoever I'm 100% behind this team, Melo included.

You guys think I am a hater because why? I say Melo at this point in his career is just another Vince Carter? Gilbert Arenas? Guess what... HE IS.

You think I like that? You think I like saying that? You think I like being right about that? If you do you have paid attention to NOTHING I have posted here and instead opted to read what you want to read. I would like nothing more than to buy you, vmart, and jerzyhustla a pint AND a shot at Stout and say this rounds on me for being proved DEAD WRONG about the caliber of player Melo is. But that hasnt happened yet has it? As of now he's a super talented guy who puts up big numbers, goes to all star games and sells jerseys, but his post season record says he's a 2nd tier guy.

What am I wrong about here? Im telling you what I see... do tell me if you see something different. I'm sorry if I'm not more excited about being down 0-2. I wish I had your blind enthusiasm.

Without Shaq, Gasol, Odom, and Bynum...Kobe and Wade would be that guy too...

nixluva @ 4/20/2011 5:47 PM
I actually have upgraded Melo to above the Vince Carter's of the world to just behind the Kobe, Wade level guys. He's more than stats and showed that he cares with how he stepped up his D at the end of the season and now in the playoffs. He really busted his butt last night on both ends, on the boards, scoring and most importantly he actually made guys better!!! That kind of performance is not on the level of guys like Arenas. His performance was far above that cuz he went up against 3 HOF's and Rondo in a playoff game and did just about everything you can do on a BB court. 42 pts, 17 rebs, 6 asts and 2 blks. Man you can't really do much better than that. Especially with one of the best defensive teams in the league pretty much doing everything to try and stop you. Unbelievable performance. If STAT is in the game we likely win it.

I'm hoping this team can step up and win both games at the Garden. IMO the longer this series goes the more it turns in our favor. I don't think the C's can hold us off if this goes to 6 or 7 games.

JesseDark @ 4/20/2011 5:52 PM
His play was most reminisent of Bernard's battle against Isiah's Pistons. I still give Bernard's performance a slight edge over Melo's.

Thank you Earl. In fact there are probably pitchforks and torches right now. We call ourselves fans and we can't get behind the most dominating performance ever by an individual player against a formidable opponent to carry a team for 48 minutes, shame on us.

Dude chill, this thread isn't wasn't about you. I agree that a loss is a loss and there are NO excuses from me. But that doesn't mean I won't take time to appreciate effort like this after having read endless questions about his heart and his lack of effort on defense and that he can't do it by himself. All I am saying is this type of effort should silence those criticisms. We have been losing games for the last ten years how many players do you recall who said 'I am not going to lose' and did everything he could to ensure that we didn't lose? Did he fall short yes, but as a fan you have to respect what this guy did. If you don't and he doesn't show up next game will you not be be sticking knives in him? So why can't we just recognize good effort when we see it? What's wrong with that?

Jordan 6-19 23 pts in a game 4 loss of the 1996 Finals. Around these parts everyone is allowed a bad playoff game here and there except for Melo, of course.

Iron Man

Carmelo gets dogged for his physical appearance and his casual exterior, but he outfought multiple Celtics for rebounds in traffic. 17.

Carmelo played more minutes than anyone on either team (43:54), except Paul Pierce (45:01), who was not nearly HALF as productive.

Carmelo had 2 blocked shots and only one turnover. One. He was 10 of 11 from the line and had twice as many offensive rebounds (5) than anyone else.

sheesh.
