Getting To Know Carmelo
(part 5 in a series)
"You guys criticized me for not shooting. I took the shot the other day [at the end of Game 1. You criticized me for that," (Anthony) said, laughing. "But it's all good to me, man. If I'm in that same situation, I will definitely pass it to Jared again. "I told (Jared) [yesterday], 'Get a couple layups under the basket. I can't make that decision for him... once I gave him the ball, it was up to him to either take the shot or pass it. He chose to pass it."
"I wanted to take that shot," Anthony said. "But the right thing to do if somebody's open, you've got to give it to him."
Anthony said Game 2 "was fun," and he didn't back off that yesterday even when told Kobe Bryant might not have used those words. "I'm not Kobe, though," he said. "I still have fun in those games. We're on the road, nobody would ever say the Knicks would have a chance to win both games in Boston. I'll take that. We could have won both of those games. We could have been up 2-0 right now and you probably wouldn't be asking me that question."

Trust
The Knicks are absolutely on the right path with Carmelo setting the tone for being unselfish. He could not have given a better endorsement of his team mates than to recognize Jared Jeffries at the end of a critical game. That sends a clear message, in the same manner that Jordan passed to Paxson, "you better be ready to take (and make) a big shot."
The beauty of what Carmelo did is that everyone understands they are important. Much easier said than done.
Think about is this way, if our beloved Knicks triplicate their outstanding effort in Boston, Game 3 could come down to an open look for Roger Mason Jr.
"...the right thing to do if somebody's open, you've got to give it to him."
I don't think anyone here was expecting a championship banner this spring. Carmelo damned near pulled off a miracle last game. With some help, wow... really, what's been great is getting guys like Douglas, Fields and (to a certain extent) Williams experience in games like this. That will pay off in long run...
Either way, the Melo lead Knickerbockers went into Boston and fought tooth and nail... great to watch, regardless of outcome. Hopefully, the Knicks can execute at the end of the game from here on out.
If you told me in October that the Knicks would have had an opportunity on their last possession to win against Boston in the first two games--yes, I would have taken that. This is a promising, unfinished product
exactly. we've taken the defending EC champion who came within one QUARTER of being the nba champs to the very last seconds and the skin of their teeth on their own court twice in a row without the services of 2 of our 3 best players for much of it. hell yeah!

Couldn't have said it better myself, Marv! :)
I think people just need to put this in perspective...I personally am ecstatic to have players who care enough to lead this team and want success for the team and the city. It's a new start and it's nice to have greatness to look forward to. I've been very impressed with the way Amare and Melo & MDA have been handling the media. The leadership shows on and off the court.

“It’s the playoffs now. You have to leave it all on the court.”
“I have to step up and do it all to try to win,” Anthony said yesterday. “But at the same time, we have to have guys who have to step up as well on the team. There’s no way I can do it by myself. We’ve been doing a great job of guys stepping up, especially for it being some of the guys’ first times.”
“I’ll play 48 if I have to.”
Playing the right way is great. Losing is will always be a problem.
I don't know. When Melo had his big game it was remarkable. And it's not Melo's fault, but when one guy scores too much, you usually lose. Check the stats with Kobe. And now for the other two games, he has been subpar. So what are we about? Springing an upset or morale victories? I just have a feeling this guy's game is all about me. Prove me wrong besides a pass to Jared Jaffries which could be seen, while unselfish, as a definite mistake.
It looked like Melo hurt his knee tonight. He wasn't exploding off it and had ice on it on the bench.
Sucks that our dudes are getting injured.
(curse of dolan?)
I am very happy to see those comments from Melo. Even if Jared blows that play again, he needs to continue to have trust in his teammates. It is up to the front office to determine the players on the team and the coach to decide who is in the game. There was no opportunity to do a offense/defense swap because of lack of timeouts but if we did, I doubt Jeffries would have been in the game for the last offensive possession.
