Let him go this week, and this team instantly frees themselves from his failed and unproven principles and can continue to get better as a unit.

What unit?
Stat+Melo+MrOldBigShot+Scrubscquad?
Intersting were you will get a coach who can make this team embrio to play difense?
Firts somebody should build the team. And Mike did it already a couple of times in NY. And it wasn't bad considering the crap he get to work with.
Now we have some material to do something and you want to start experimenting again. may be let's bring Isiah back for some entertinment?

He has been in NY for three years. His many faults, and weakness have been on display for a long time. I am not sure why the injuries of the past week excuse the futility and incompetence of three years.

dude, what were your expectations for the first 2 years? Playoffs? This I got to hear. Compliment your analysis with all of the trades that happened during that time period.

Were you expecting a sweep?

If NY could play with healthy Billups and Amare, no. Considering both go down essentially after Game 1, I certainly didn't expect to win games after that. Minor miracle if they did and Game #2 almost played out that way. Thought they were playing against refs in game #1.

Did you think the Knicks could beat Boston in Games #3 & 4 without Billups and Amare?

I think he needed to do something with the team he had after the Crawford and Randolph trades. He kept his core of guys until the trading deadline the next year. He came out of that training camp with his guys from the year before and lost at a horrible rate. He wouldn't play the two guys that were supposed to be a part of the future and instead played guys like Bender, Duhon and Jeffries. You can make an argument that his lack of development of young bigs this year and last year led to the Knicks giving up quite a bit more than they should have to make moves. I didn't expect playoffs but I also didn't expect to hear the coach talking about making the playoffs and not playing his younger guys when the playoffs were almost a mathematical impossibility. I don't think I have ever said that D'Antoni should have made the playoffs in his first two years. I do think that it was apparent that his approach with the teams he had wasn't going to change despite his approach not fitting the personnel. He has messed up a lot in my opinion. I think he is very lucky that he works for a guy as loyal as Walsh and that there are fans that are quick to give him a pass because 'there isn't anyone better."

I thought they could have competed with Melo and scrubs like they did in game 2 for games 3 and 4, but Dantoni and the team left the effort in Boston.

I understand your frustration but seriously this team was done after Billups and Stat went down.
The scrubs can only give you a game once in a while. In NBA you need players to win games. And we left with 1... but need 7-8.
Come on. Get real.

so you thought they could win games without Billups and essentially Amare?

I thought effort was off in parts of game 3 & 4. I seriously thought that Amare had a downward effect on whole team when on floor. Melo 14-40 over those games.

I also thought Boston UPPED their effort and execution and defense and that was the real reason Celtics won - they out-played and out-talented the Knicks.

When a team like Boston only has to key off of 1 guy - Melo - it's easy to win; the rest is just expecting TD, Fields, JJ, Turiaf, AC, Shawne to beat the likes of Pierce, Rondo, KG, Big Baby, Green, West, etc. Not happening in any real world.

If Walsh doesn't let him go we can safely assume that he's doing nothing but denying that hiring Dantoni was a huge mistake.

perhaps that's how you make decisions, pretty poor way of dealing with mistakes.

You think Mike Brown is a good coach?

I dont think Mark Jackson would be any worse.

Seems like a rather arbitrary distinction to me since I never mentioned Brown.

You think broadcasting is better preparing Jackson than being an assistant coach?

He's gone to the media openly throwing himself in front of the bus to save his coach. At least 4 times since he's been here. If Don is back D'AnToni slides across home plate SAFE even if he misses by feet

I'm pretty sure that I asked this question once before...

What coach, especially a highly regarded one like MDA, has ever had to go though the roster machinations that he has had to put up with during his 3 seasons in NYC?

I don't always agree with the guy, and would not mind a defensive specialist added to the Knicks' staff, but you can almost say that the Knicks brass has insulted the D'Antoni with all the personnel changes he has been forced to endure.

And the most ironic twist of all was that 2 of the 3 "stars" who were acquired before or during this season, were injured to some degree or another during this series- which means that basically, the dump D'Antoni crew is saying that not only does he have to adapt to all the roster changes, but that when he does has a final roster and lineup, he must somehow compensate for the loss of his starting PG and the virtual loss of the player Knicks' fans thought should be MVP earlier in the season.

Yup...

SupremeCommander @ 4/25/2011 6:32 AM
I want Brian Shaw--Phil jackson's top assistant--to coach the Knicks next year. Monty Williams and Tom Thibs both have had a great amount of success. I think a younger guy with some fire, deterimination, and of course acumen would be a perfect fit for this group.
s3231 @ 4/25/2011 7:18 AM
All I have to say is thank god none of the people on this forum are making the decisions (with the exception of the few rational members that know what they are talking about). If Walsh comes back, he'll do the right thing. I for one, look forward to seeing D'Antoni coach a team that finally has a core in place going into a TC (guys that know they won't be traded).

Just because you don't have a championship calibur team doesn't mean there are zero expectations and no ways to evaluate coaching.
W-L aside we've had

120+ players generally show defensive apathy(big sample size)
horrible defensive rotations
many career nights for opposing players
refusal by coach to even acknowledge the problem(shots aren't falling, our pace makes the other team get a in a rhythm so no D can
be played anyway)
lack of preparation for opponents pre game
lack of adjustments in game
horrible play calling after timeouts near the end of games
stupidly short rotation most of the time
alienation of multiple players all of whom state D'Antoni doesn't communicate at all with them.

All of this without even mentioning the stellar W-L record we have and the great playoff run we just witnessed.

That line of thinking worked great for Rambis.

If Hornets get swept you want Monty? Or is he the "hot dot" of the moment?

I don't think any fan would not like to have the next young great coach but in NY do you really hire an untested entity and throw him out to this media?

Maybe when we were a yoot oriented team but for now you have Billups, Melo and Stat you gotta have major buy in and not have some young dude who they might sicken of real quick. Don't forget we got two divas here and likly billups.

Maybe that is what we need- Brian Shaw would be perfect- he is younger, can relate to guys - but as a role player, won't let Melo and Amare not give the effort, and he has rings as a player and coach.

I can go either way with this..I think mike is good at one thing, his system..It would help if he wasn't so rigid and opposed to some defensive help but it is what it is...We won't have a full team next year, we should give Mike the benefit of a doubt and see what he can do next year...After that, Doc or Phil Jackson may want to look at coaching again...It's a win win situation...Maybe Mike blows us away coaching, if not, we go hard for Doc ,Phil and one of the big name PG..By the way, people still thinking DWill is better than Chris Paul..CP3 is having his way with Kobe..
