Maybe, he can get a job with TNT. But is the world ready for Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley at the same time on live TV? :)

Well he deserves congratulations for a great career! It's hard to believe his body held up decently as long as it did.
JesseDark@ 6/1/2011 6:19 PM
Shaq certainly deserves props for his career. He is differnt from other big men in that he is media friendly and doesn't have reputation as being unapproachable. This will certainly help him in his post basktetball life.
OasisBU@ 6/1/2011 6:31 PM
Shaq is one of the all time greats, a class act, funny as hell - I hope he gets on TV, he would be great at it.
Thanks for the memories Diesel - you are the man.
nyshakespeare@ 6/1/2011 8:29 PM
Hated him in Orlando when he always seemed to one-up Ewing in their head to heads. Overall, one of the best to ever play the game. Great personality. He will be missed. Especially with all the milquetoast young bucks headlining the league today. TV gig in his future?...or will he be Sheriff Shaq?
DrAlphaeus@ 6/1/2011 8:37 PM
Does that now leave the title of the League's Best Rapper to Ron Artest?
I wonder if this guy is going to go into law enforcement like he's been saying these past few years.
A real lovable character and a hell of a center in his prime. Big up the Big Aristole.

Shaq on TNT
y2zipper@ 6/1/2011 8:42 PM
If Shaq replaces Barkley on TNT I'm all for it.
Anyway, yeah, Shaq's basically borderline Mount Rushmore as far as centers go.

No way. Barkley's hilarious.

Couldn't agree more. The play that sticks out in my mind is one time Ewing was running up court and Shaq just pushed him in the back to throw him off stride. Shaq then zipped past him to get in position for an easy layup. Ewing just howled at the ref over the blown call. After the Orlando days he was certainly easy to like.

Not necessarily. He made a lot of ignorant comments such as the Yao Ming comment or the "Don't let white boys dunk on you comments." I'm pretty sure that was when he was in LA too. It took him awhile to grow above saying stuff like that.
Mray20@ 6/1/2011 10:21 PM
One of the most dominant big men of all time but this dude should have retired years ago, he's been stealing money from NBA teams for the past 3-4 years IMO.
This is my favorite commercial of Shaq. Melo has a new version.
Vmart@ 6/2/2011 9:40 AM
Shaq destroyed the center position. How many Shaq wannabes came and went. He was responsible for the production of no talent center who wanted to get by on size alone.
Although Shaq won some championships he should have left the game with a lot more rings. He was a great center that could have been the greatest of all time but never invested the time needed to be better than he was sort of an underachiever.

The hell you say.
And, agreed that despite the 4 rings, he should have had much more, though to his credit, he managed to win 3 of those 4 with someone he was publicly feuding with.
Then again, that was more Phil Jackson's managing of his and Kobe's out-of-control egos long enough to win.

Great Career. Shaq was the last to know that he retired. glad he finally figured it out. He actually retired during that season in Phoenix.
Moonangie@ 6/2/2011 10:27 AM
I ran into him at a shop on W. 8th street a few years back. I said "hi" and expressed my admiration for his game. He actually responded politely and was an overall nice guy about it (considering he had an entourage with him, he could easily have brushed me off). I respected that and always thought he was a solid center, top-ten all-time without question.
Great career (19 years? whoa). He should retire as he has nothing left in the tank and his body is done.

I'm sure you can agree that you never really understand how big this guy is until you see him in person.

Looks like Sheriff Shaq it is then...
Dime:When your contract expires, assuming that you’ll retire, where will you be? What will you be doing? Shaq: I’m going to be in Orlando. I’m going to be in law enforcement. I want to be sheriff of that town. I want to be in the areas where I speak the language. This is not a joke; it’s not just for show. I really want to be working where it will matter most. I will be walking those streets saying, “This is what’s up.”
Still could do some Barkley-esque job for one of the networks on the side...hopefully.
gotta say i hated shaq when he first broke into the league. i was a young die-hard knicks fan and i just didn't like the dude. though, by all accounts, he seems like a genuinely good guy. he grew on me over the years. he made a major mark. i'm sure he'll be successful in whatever he does next.
