Knicks · Can't believe NYK Article, Knicks interest to move Fields/Douglas to snatch Jimmer Fredette (page 2)

LOL @ Fredette being Nash. Fredette is more like Tony Delk than he is Steve Nash. Fredette is not a PG. Not even close.
nixluva @ 6/7/2011 4:15 AM
This isn't about me being in love with Jimmer. I actually like several of the players in this draft. I'm not saying Jimmer is Nash, but if they feel he has that kind of potential that would explain why they're trying to move up to get him. Don't make the mistake of going by how a player played in College and assuming that's all there is to the player. Often it depends on the circumstances. In any event, the Knicks will have several options in this draft and it won't cost them any players to get one of the guys they like. This isn't a very likely thing to happen IMO. However if it did I wouldn't bet against Jimmer being very successful here.

Remember that the Knicks had this kid in last year and i'm sure they are a bit more familiar with what he can and can't do. They've had the chance to get a close look at him running some of our stuff and if he had a great showing if could be enough to convince them that he's their guy Or maybe this is just a smokescreen and they're looking to pick someone else. Who knows at this point.

My hope is they move up and draft Bismack Biyombo.

No, he is not. He is still the President of Basketball Operations until after the draft at the end of the month. He will decide on this draft like if he had signed an extension with the team.

Knicksfan, don't believe everything written. Donnie might be there on draft night, but he officially leaves his job one week after the draft. His "advisory" role is very unclear. MSG and Dolan keep people on payroll so they are "Employees" and can't talk about all the inside dirt. When Isiah left/was fired as Pres, GM, coach, he also was kept as "advisor", IIRC. Even when Walsh WAS Pres/GM he didn't have full say on decisions. What makes you think he will this time, when he has been ousted.

Now Walsh isn't coming back and the team seems to have locked in on a guy that doesn't address any of those things. In addition if this is accurate the Knick front office is once again letting everyone know their plan and who their guy is in the draft. This hasn't worked out very well for them in the past. They will either give up too much because they lay all their cards on the table for everyone to see, or improve Jimmer's draft status to the point where someone else picks him.
Crush - you are right. Terrible bargaining. My only hope is that we let everyone think we want Jimmer, and that influences another team to take him instead of the guy we really want, who then falls to us. It's like a high stakes poker game, sometimes you need to bluff.

Bingo. This is a non story. Plus Jimmer isn't getting past Utah so we can keep dreaming.

It is, but it cites an Alan Hahn piece - which the first time I read, I didn't notice this gem:

. But according to a person with knowledge of the situation, the Knicks are looking for a deal that will help them move up in the draft to land the sharpshooter from upstate Glens Falls.

The issue, of course, is the team's lack of assets to offer in a trade, which, right now, would be to offer either Toney Douglas or Landry Fields along with their pick.

Although I wouldn't mind Fredette being picked if he dropped, not so sure about trading either Douglas or Fields who have proven they belong in the NBA (we can debate their roles/value), for someone who is all potential right now.

Anthony Roberson!

I hope it is a bluff- because if we are looking to move up, it should be for a solid, two way player with size- not a good jump shooter.

Whether you are running a D'Antoni system or a Jeff Van Gundy halfcourt set, Jimmer fills a need on this roster as we currently do not have a consistent outside threat that can take advantage of the attention Amare/Melo receive on a nightly basis.

If we have a shot at getting him, we have to do it even if it means trading Fields or Douglas in my opinion. When you see a talent that you think can develop into a star, you go and get him. The last time we waited for someone to drop to us, Golden State killed any chance of it happening.

What a crap article that makes claims and then links to sources that aren't even related.

+1, no interest in such a one way player. Dominant scoring in college is not relevant experience to playing point in the NBA.

Good point.

So If Jimmer becomes a Knick, we doing a "Coming Home" video tribute also
MS @ 6/7/2011 11:32 AM
Comparisons are made for a reason. Moving either Fields are Douglas makes no sense to get a kid whose ceiling isn't that high. Steve Nash is a major exception. Jimmer average less then 3 assists in college Nash was handing out 6 assists a game. You don't go all in and give up depth and role players for someone that may or may not pan out

JJ Reddick
Duke 26.8pts 47%
NBA 7.7pts 43%

Adam Morrison
GU 28.1pts 50%
NBA 8.6pts 43%

Jimmer Fredette
BYU 29.9 45%

Toney Douglas
21.5pts Defensive Player of the Year ACC
9.8pts 43%

Theoretically moving Feilds and or Douglas in this draft makes sense but only in 3 particular areas

Our Pick and either of them to move inside the Top 10(not for Fredette though)

or

Douglas to be moved for a pick in the 20-25 range

or

Fields to be moved for 2 picks in the 25-35 range

tkf @ 6/7/2011 11:41 AM
well I am not saying fredette is the next steve nash, but the reddick comparisons are off.. think about it. reddick was never a ball handler, get your own shot type of guy. he as a spot up, come off pick, deep shooter for duke...

Jimmer has a handle, a slick one, and can create space for his shot which he has crazy range on. Think a bit of steph curry here. I think he might be a good player and I can see why the knicks are intrigued..

nixluva wrote:I don't get what everyone has against Jimmer. OK he's not D. Rose, but the kid can play. In this system he'd be unreal. The PG on a D'Antoni team is going to get shots and opportunities to setup teammates at an incredible level. Nash shoots at 50%!!! I'm positive that Jimmer could equal that and get plenty of assists. Felton wasn't exactly an assist machine before he came here, but on this team he ended up being a very successful assist man. If Felton can avg. 9 assists, I think Jimmer can do about the same on this team.

Now the big deal is his defense. I think again that if a guy like Nash can be MVP of the league not being a stud defender, it's not out of the question for Jimmer to be successful even tho he's not a good defender. What you hope is that the kid takes it more serious and becomes a good team defender. His not a terrible athlete. Not great, but he's got some speed and agility and he's able to create space. He's almost 6-3!!! They measure him at 6-2.5 in shoes. That and he's very strong benching 180 14 times. So he's got NBA PG size for sure.

If Walsh feels this kid is a can't miss player i'd have no problem with them moving up to take him. For all those who bash Mike they have to at least imagine what it would be like if Jimmer turns out to be the next Nash after all. There's no better system in the world for a PG with that kind of game than this one. Remember the shots Felton used to miss? The open 3's and PnR opportunities would increase for STAT and Melo. Just the threat of Jimmer hitting at a high % would create more space than Felton could ever open up. Part of the reason STAT was so open is cuz Nash shot 50%. You simply can't just leave him open. That's what I think they see in Jimmer. Also that he's smart.

Can someone post a link to Fredette highlights where he's passing? All I see him do is do jumpshots and score. Being a good jump shooter is a tiny part of Steve Nash's game.

Jimmer was not asked to pass. Anyeone watch how they played? Do goes Jimmer, so went the team.

Can he be compared to a black player? Do all white college kids underachieve when they get to the NBA?

Adam Morrison was one of the worst picks I have ever seen by a pro team. The dude is a diabetic, under sized (skinny) and ran funny in collge. Don't know what the hell bobcats were thinking.

JJ is a good player. Not a star, and not drafted to be one.

If Jimmer is taken 17th, we talking 17th pick here.

I agree. I think the Stephen Curry comparison is spot on, and Jimmer has a better handle and court vision.

rp @ 6/7/2011 12:57 PM
Agents blog and even write up on draft boards to help their client. Like many has already said, I doubt he will be there 17th and trading him for any of our minimal assets is crazy if the organization is planning on adding a third star.
