The Bulls have been offering picks 28 & 30 to move up on draft night feel they want more of an impact player than they will get there.
Also reporting that he thinks they are targeting the 18th pick (Washington?)
I'd buy one, but just trading seems a bit too much. Even tho there is talent into the 2nd rd of this draft, I still think 17 could bring good talent. I'd rather buy late 1st rd or 2nd rd picks.
We can't really afford to offer real assets for picks. Only cash.

I'm positive that we can buy a pick and not have to give up anything more than money. There are always teams that have no use for a young prospect that isn't guaranteed of sticking or that they just don't have time to spend trying to develop.
The way I think it will work is there will be a bunch of contingencies setup with multiple teams on draft night (that's why teams take the full 3 minutes to make a pick). Depending on who's available at certain picks, trades will go down. If certain players aren't available at 28 and 30 (the teams the Bulls have contingent deals with), then Chicago may just as well sell the pick for cash as they are in win now mode.
But the way this draft is (not a lot of superstar talent, but it's a deep draft with similar talent to the 2nd round) I doubt Chicago will have to sell their picks.
So basically, there will be no deals until draft night, and we won't really know until around the picks in question.

Unfortunately, this has been our situation the last few years

We kept and developed most of our young talents, but they were traded. So long as you improve the team it's all good IMO. I'm happy with the players we have now. I've always said that trading potential for proven star talent is a good move. If you do trade at least make sure it's for a player that is worth the price. Melo is a guy that still has things to prove in terms of getting to the finals, but I like the core being built around STAT and Melo. I like that both players have no fear of playing in NY and no fear of playing Lebron and Wade.
We can restock our young players with a couple of picks this draft and bringing in Jordan.

How many times in the past 10 years has Dolan done that?

uh... they've done it the last two years in a row to get toney douglas and jerome jordan.
Hoopsworld reporting that the Spurs want to move #29.
• Many of the teams that want to add a late first round pick believe their best bet is dealing with the San Antonio Spurs. Multiple executives believe that San Antonio wants to move the 29th pick, and teams such as the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns would love to take it off of their hands. Both teams will wait to see if the player they're targeting is on the board when the Spurs go on the clock before entering a bidding war for the pick.

OK, I asked because I wasn't sure. Was that just buying picks or giving up assets, though?
Edit: For Toney Douglas, they traded a second round pick (I think #42) to move up to get him at 29.
Jordan was picked 44th by Mil and traded to the Knicks for cash. I don't think Dolan did things like this before Walsh and am skeptical that he will now.

I don't think Dolan has ever had an issue with spending money. I do wonder if the Knicks will stay away from getting another 1st because the contract is guaranteed and could have cap implications.

it does seem to be a walsh tactic. but walsh is supposedly running this draft for the knicks. i think the knicks will buy a pick this year, because donnie is the kind of guy who try his best even in a job where he's leaving.
The Knicks didn't trade any assets to obtain Tony Douglas. They gave the Lakers 3mm to purchase that pick.
I definitely believe Walsh will purchase a 2nd pick in the late 1st round to early 2nd round.
He'll come out like a winner, just as he did with the Landry Fields and Jerome Jordan moves..

to the lakers? Ypou guys probably right. I have to check that

i thought it was just the $3M, too.
edit: ironically, it was this year's second round pick:
Knicks Acquire Draft Rights to Toney Douglas
Chosen 29th Overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by L.A. Lakers
NEW YORK, June 25, 2009 – The New York Knickerbockers have acquired the draft rights to Toney Douglas from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a 2011 second-round draft choice and cash considerations. The guard was selected as the 29th overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft.
Douglas, 6-1, 225-pounds, averaged 21.5 points for Florida State University in his senior year and was the runner-up as the ACC Player of the Year. The Tampa. FL-native was an All-ACC First Team selection and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

So they spent $3M to move up from a pick in the mid 40s this year to the 29th in 2009. That's the kind of trade I wish the organization would do MUCH more of. They should have the wealth to be able to come out of every draft with 2 to 3 first round picks.

I hope we are looking to buy late 1st rounders though history dictates thar usually we are the team that has prospects we don't want or have patience for.
This is construed as a weak ass draft.
In years when this is true, the days leading up get fans all excited. We can give up cash, or players who we know can play for the hope and promise of a future prospect.
If Spurs are selling I'd be suspect as this is the team best at drafting and being patient with getting players and stashing them in the 4 corners of the world.
I, like most of you have no problem with us buying picks with other peoples money.
