Knicks · With an eye on 2012, Knicks only offering 1 year deals.... (page 1)

This is not a bad alternative, considering the Knicks do not want to take themselves out of the Paul, Williams and Howard bonanza. Yes we need a center but before anyone chimes in with the "Starphuckin" term, The following centers: Jordan, Dalembert, Chandler and Gasol werent coming here for the MLE anyway. I think we might still have a shot a guys like Jeff Foster or Kwame Brown. If not, we better hope Jerome Jordan can give us some minutes.

Bonn1997 @ 6/26/2011 1:03 PM
Good! Our future is heavily dependent on those three players (and Amare not breaking down)
NYKBocker @ 6/26/2011 1:17 PM
For the one year contracts, my preference would be Jeff Foster. Sign Jerome Jordan and Josh Harrellson and lets go to war with these 3.
ATrain @ 6/26/2011 1:25 PM
I thought the Mavs proved we didn't need 3 stars. I'm sick of "waiting for next year's free agents". We need a president. If the new cap benefits us why not take a shot at a Gasol,Jordan, Nene, Dalembert now. Why do we have to wait until 2012 to start becoming contenders? I just don't see why we can't start now. And I'm no where near convinced that Paul is going to lead us to the ECF.
Knixkik @ 6/26/2011 1:50 PM
Kwame Brown and Jeff Foster are both great options. I give Brown the edge because Foster is always hurt. I say we overpay him on a one-year deal. The hope for him would be to look very good in this offense alongside melo and stoudemire and increase his value going into next summer. He had a good year, but i still don't think he will warrant a multiyear contract greater than a couple of million a year. A good year here could give him a big payday next year. Or maybe he is a great fit with Paul added to the mix and we resign him. People have a bad taste in their mouth about Brown because of all of the hype and promise. If he can rebound, defend, and finish like he did last season we will be very happy with him.
CrushAlot @ 6/26/2011 1:55 PM
The Knicks should sign Sean Williams. He put up great numbers in the d-l last year and if he has matured would be a steal.

The options available now aren't worth it...None of the guys available is a lock to lead us anywhere...We have had enough marginal stars we paid good money to that led us nowhere...

And Paul is a guarantee to lead us? A couple years ago if you asked me if Tyson Chandler would ever win an NBA championship I would have confidently told you no. I think this whole board would agree that Ewing was a star but he never led us to a title. Nobody is a lock to lead any team to a championship, not even LeBron. So why should we continually "wait until next year" to be a contender?

I tend to believe that the Miami plan works better, so I'm a fan of New York waiting and going into 2012 free agency. With Williams, Paul, and Howard all there, I think New York can get one of them, but I'd rather have Deron or Howard than Paul (of course Howard's the #1 choice). Of course, it all depends what happens with the CBA, but that's the risk New York is taking.

Killa4luv @ 6/26/2011 2:19 PM
I'm on board with Kwame Brown or D-leaguer Shawne Williams. I actually liked Kwame Brown last season. He seemed to be putting it together to be serviceable, and thats really all we need.

Dont want Jeff Foster, he's always hurt.

Nobody's a lock, but Chris Paul/Deron Williams/Dwight Howard playing with Amar'e Stoudamire and Carmelo Anthony gives us a much better chance than what's out there right now. That's why it's better to wait. A guy like Samuel Dalembert isn't worth taking the three other guys off the table.

There's no one available for us to start anything now unless you think Delembert is the missing piece to pull off a Mavs (and Still, I dont beleive we have enough money toland him anyway.) As Holfresh stated, there isn't an option available this summer to push over the top anyway.

BTW, the Heat are good money to win it next year. They may have lost this yr, but they have a core that will have them in the mix for 'Chips for the next 3-4 yrs easy.

If the Mavs proved anything, it's that we need a legit franchise player.

What is the issue? We picked up Billups option, practically taking us out of the running for some of the free agents this year. You guys are complaining because NY won't sign talent that while good will not automatically make us contender and to a MLE we still don't know if we will have? And you'd rather have Dalembert extended to multiple years than a chance at CP3, Dwight or Deron?

Im not the biggest fan of waiting for stars, but when you can and don't lose much, you do it. NY will still try to bring talent and some will be available on 1-year deals and it will be good as anyway we will have a new team next season. Melo and Amare starting a season instead of just catching up with the season underway, Billups healthy and the young guys will make a difference.

Next will be exciting and if Dallas proved many wrong and won it all, you know its not just another lost season until we get the star. Any team with two stars, good role players and a sound plan will have a chance. I say we may be a defensive assistant and a couple of 1-year signings away from having a really solid season where who knows what happens.

The plan to get free agents last offseason cost the Knicks a lot and didn't work out the way it was supposed to. Having the cap space doesn't guarantee that you get the player. I also worry that the Knicks will package Shumpert with Balk and the 2016 first round pick to get cap space at the trade deadline.

If wade and Labron are going to continue to run the point, they will win nothing, if labron and wade don't learn how to shoot off screens, and stop using the ISO as a clutch play, they will win nothing.

The knicks may change there tune (Only signing 1 yr contracts) if the NEW CBA changes the Game

That's who I was thinking. I think he realizes that this is his last shot. It would be similar to the Shawne Williams signing last year. A Foster and William platoon would get us by.

Foster, Williams and Jorts could be a pretty effective center rotation.

I'd rather have cap space to get either another star (which would actually balance our team better than Miami) or get a few talented role players than wasting the chance using the MLE (if it even exists under the new CBA) ona marginal upgrade now.

Patience is the name of the game right now. Once we get the new CBA, we will know if we can get something now or wait for 2012.

nixluva @ 6/26/2011 6:36 PM
You have to prepare for any eventuality. This way we can be ready to make a deal if it's there. The Heat is a poor example of what having 3 stars can do for a team. I much prefer the Celtics. When you put guys together that make sense it's much more successful. STAT, Melo and CP3 WORKS! I'm not saying it's gonna happen or that it will guarantee a title, but I think it would have a better chance of working than the Heat big 3. The Heat succeed despite the fact that they don't really blend that well. It's not a good fit to have two ball dominant players trying to figure out how to play without the ball.
CrushAlot @ 6/26/2011 6:45 PM
If the Knicks are targeting 2012 they might be smart to offer a little more to convince someone like Foster to take a 1 year deal. If they could add Sean Williams or another free agent for the vet minimum the Knicks would have Jorts, Turiaf, Foster and Williams/free agent to play the middle. Role player bigs made big impacts this year in the playoffs. Aaron Gray is another guy to take a run at with a larger one year offer.
