Knicks · Are the Knicks the least classy organization in sports? (page 1)

Amare comes here to a gutted roster, really showed some hutzpa in doing that and carried the team for the better part of the season and laid the foundation for the Melo trade and the Chandler aquisition. How do the Knicks show their appreciation?

NY Post - Peter Vecsey
If you’re Amar’e Stoudemire, it’s great to hear Tyson Chandler is coming to the Knicks to relieve him of the responsibility of guarding centers for much of the time.
The disturbing news is that the team’s once treasured asset was nearly relieved of the New York City limelight he loves basking in. A Hornets’ source disclosed they swiftly rejected a Stoudemire-for-Chris Paul offer.
There was no interest whatsoever, maybe because Stoudemire’s remaining 4-year, $84 million contract is uninsurable.
Or maybe it’s because New Orleans had better offers, the looming three-way deal with the Lakers and Rockets that commissioner David Stern pre-empted.

This organization makes my skin crawl. I hope that this turns out not to be true because they're making it extremely hard to continue to be a fan.

Vecsey is a joke. He just rants.
earthmansurfer @ 12/9/2011 9:22 AM
I don't feel sorry for a man who comes to a top two city in America and gets the max money allowed to play a game. It's a business, we just have fun watching the non business end of things. And, Vecsey is a joke. He just rants.

And he makes stuff up. Trade Stat and leave a huge hole in the middle that Chandler could never fill. Plus, you don't trade big for small.

The classless thing is cutting Chauncy loose. The guy didn't really want to be here but, he brought into being here. I hope they find some way to send him back to Denver so he can be back where he was happy and near his family.

JohnWallace44 @ 12/9/2011 9:31 AM
The Knicks have to know that it would be exceedingly difficult to trade Amare without insurance on his contract. Why would you even try to do that? They're just going to create a sheety situation in the locker-room. With Chandler, the only thing that can beat the Knicks is themselves. Looks like they might just do that.
matt @ 12/9/2011 9:33 AM
I think this was just speculation as I don't think anyone in the Knicks is stupid enough to bring on that PR shitstorm

You are taking the word of a has-been reporter who makes crap up and then extending that falsehood to characterize a 3rd party?

fishmike @ 12/9/2011 9:38 AM
its hard to be classy these days.... trust me I know!

Knicks and Amare were good partners. He breathed life into a decade long dead franchise and has been a PR machine. Knicks give him more guarenteed money than anyone else would have. I would say they have done right by each other.

What r they sending him to a Turkish prison or something? He's making 14 million dollars to play a game. 14 mill which in my estimation is about 9 - 10 mill too much. Theres nothing classless about trading Chauncey or anybody else. ANd I like Chauncey and thought he'd be a great coach for Iman an TD.

These players go to where they can make the most money and organizations do what is going to make them the most money. Even with Amare, he's been great, but he's only a Knick because we offered the most money.

EXACTLY. They picked up his $14M option, which was waaayyyy more than he should be getting. Chauncey should be thankful for that payday.

Peter Vescey? Really? Peter Vescey still quoted as a source here?

I think in many times The knicks upheld paying players even when did not have to.

They paid Nate and DLee much more than they wanted They got Dlee a nice payday into a good city.

Nate got paid and moved to a contender.

Guys like Eddy and Marbles got treated fairly. They did not uphold their end.

We failed with anything to do with Isiah and the way we treated Anucha. That was total BS. I'd say we are not exactly good with Donnie as owner did bud in and took over a negotiation. ITs His gig.

The Larry Brown fiasco was one part knicks and one part Larry. Both were at fault.

Donnie bought a lot of class back into the front office.

Regarding Amare, players are totally mostly business when it comes to getting paid and I think they will do whats best for them over whats best for the team. Long list of stars leaving teams to pursue their own agenda. Why should a team be wrong for doing the same. I think players get paid very well for the inconvienece of being traded and having to relocate. Its part of the business.

Once upon a time we traded Walt Frazier. It happens.

Amare is not tradable. Only the Knicks can carry a contract like that which is uninsured. Why upset the applecart if there's no end game?

Chandler to Knicks org: "I'll sign with you guys but I would REALLY love to play with CP3, can you at least just check before I commit. Thanks"
Grunfeld: "We checked and it's a no-go."
Chandler: "OK, you tried, thanks."

Nobody upset anything. Such an offer never happened.

I hope that's what comes out later on in the week. If the truth is that there's some beef between the Amare and Melo camps then our hopes of a ring are pretty much toast.

I'm not sure he's untradeable but he's not a trade asset. When people propose trades like "Amare for DP3" or for Dwight, they don't appreciate how long, expensive, and risky Amare's contract is. I'm excited about seeing Amare + Chandler in the front court, but we could easily end up with $30 mil in injury-prone players for the next five years at the PF/C positions.
