Knicks · Aldridge reporting the Celts are close to signing David West (page 2)

The Celtics don't really have a starting center unless they plan on using O'Neal.

This is a solid depth move because Garnett and O'Neal are both older and now they have Bass and West to back those guys up, assuming West stays healthy.

What the hell does New Orleans get out of trading David West for Jermaine O'neal?

A player they wouldn't have gotten if West signed for the MLE with Boston.

Except, from what I've read, they're just going to cut O'neal after the trade is finalized. I'll ask again, what is the point of this trade for New Orleans?

I think it's going to be a sign and trade. West is a free agent so if it's a sign and trade NOLA will get a trade exception I think. Probably cash and picks also.

Aren't both teams over the salary cap? That would mean the salaries have to match and, I believe, no trade exception would be created.

What you are reading is most likely wrong. No way NO cuts O'neal and spends 6M they never had to.

Looks like David West is signing with the Pacers 2yrs/20mil

Pacers are going to be very good. Maybe better than a 6 seed now.

Definitely. They were up and coming last season, this year they will probably overtake Atlanta in playoff positioning.
