Knicks · Knicks Emerging in Jamal Crawford Chase (page 4)
Jamal Crawford 30 MPG last season - 42.1% FG (career 41%), 34% 3PT FG (career 35%), 14.2 ppg, 3.2 apg
So, who do I take?
Oh yeah, I take the lesser of two evils - aka the guy who will at least play with some effort on defense.

Absolutely. Additionally TD was playing with a bum shoulder. I bet those numers improve. Jamal isn't going to get any better.

if you saw him play for ATL, i think you'd feel different. he's been great for them.
Childs2Duds, i respect you but if you tell me Toney is as good as Jamal, i respect you a little less. you know better.

No offense, but I respect anyone trying to make a case for Jamal Crawford a little less. Apparently you don't know better.

fair enough. it's a case of building a team that fits. jamal fills several MAJOR needs here. ability to shoot from the perimeter, create for himself and others from the perimeter. he's a great fit, despite his shortcomings.

Nice tray C2D. Last year was an off year for Jamal. The year before he played better.
In 2009-10 Jamal - 45% FG, 38% 3pt !!! Jamal is an overall more talented player than TD. When he's coached properly he can really be a good player. No he's not perfect, but he can help a team in more ways than TD. He's a FAR better passer and you know it. Anyone watching TD and Jamal would say that Jamal is the more talented passer, it's not even close.
Also TD's defense is a bit overrated. He has a tendency to take too many chances. He doesn't always keep his spacing and get's beat too often. He's great at pressure and getting steals, but you can't let that override the other problems.

Actually, like you conveniently left out, last year was not an "off year". He shot above his career shooting percentage and just below his career 3 point shooting percentage.
If anything, 09-10 was that fluke year where he played above his career averages.
With his advancing age and the fact that he's never shot above those 09-10 numbers in his career, he will provide no upgrade to this team.
"create for himself." -- this is a need for us? we have STAT & MELO did you know that?
"create for others." -- crawford averaged 14 shots per game last year; douglas only 9. they averaged the same amount of assists. once again, even though #'s tend to point to douglas being better, i'll say its a wash.
"great fit." -- Because the knicks so desperately need more scoring! last year the knicks scored the second-most amount of points in the league!
true, we lost billups who averaged 17 a game. but we got chandler, who averages 10 a game, replacing our starting C (turiaf/jeffries) who averaged 2 points a game. i am sure we will be able to make up the scoring in other ways.

Nixluva I think last season was the norm and the season before was an anomaly. Just look at his season by season.

jamal is a guy who shows up for this team and would be a great fit.
JC vs TD vs Barea
PG - JC
SG - JC
Playmaker - JC/Barea
Scorer - JC
Clutch - JC
Feels the need at PG and SG - JC
Can guard SG's - JC
Guarding PG's - JC/TD (Don't overrate TD please....he's decent but not a lockdown defender)
With this current team, we have two major holes to fill, and JC fills them both. PG and outside shooting. Plus, at 6'5 he has the height to see over most PG's to make those half court entry passes.
This would be a great move! And I'm a TD fan! But I'm also a Shrump fan....What we will miss in TD, as far as defense, I believe Shrump would feel that void and even more.
Shrump
JC
Melo
Amare
Chandler
How can you not like this lineup.....
TD
JC
Melo
Amare
Chandler
You can't go wrong either way....
The point is we need to fill these needs, and I like how the Knicks are doing this. They are actually making solid basketball moves. Bibby was another smart cheap move, with off the bench veteran leadership. Believe me, outside of Melo and Amare....We do not have a reliable offensive threat. Trust me when I say, you don't want to see Fields at the SG position. Fields is a slasher, who plays better at SF. Thats why his numbers dropped when Melo came.
Personally, I would rather give up Fields than TD. With Amare and Chandler, they allow you to use different lineups....Go small ball at the 3, and still be affective.

No one person in this league guards D.Rose....But with Chandler guarding the rim, you at least take that part of defense out, and now you can guard Rose better as a team....Shumpert also has the length on Rose, so he can guard his jumper, or force him into the lions den, where you have three players waiting for him....7'1, 6'10 and 6'9 forwards as your last line of defense.
No more easy buckets at the rim fellas.....Chandler will help improve guard defense now! The problem will be on offense....Who will help stretch the floor? JC is a perfect fit! This is the best time to get him in his career....If it was a young JC, I would agree with most.....

How about STAT and Melo don't play 48 minutes a game. You can either start JC at the 2 or bring him off the bench as a 6th. He can also play point for a few minutes a game. However, I'm not in favor of getting rid of TD....the kid is getting better and isn't close to his ceiling.
