I think it was reported that Shawne wanted to resolve his contract by today. It will be interesting to see if the Knicks wait to see if anything happens with Baron or if they bring back Shawne.

welp. oh well. would be happy if they can get shawne williams.

and baron davis would be a nice little package to find gift-wrapped under the christmas tree. though not sure he'll clear amnesty waivers.

The above link leads to an article about Jamal Crawford making a difficult decision about where to go. One quote says:

"I flip-flop every other second," Crawford said. "Especially in my inner circle, everybody has a different opinion. Ultimately, it's going to come down to me and I have to live with the decision. I think they're all good choices."

"A veteran of 11 NBA seasons, Crawford said he is more worried about finding the right fit than hitting a certain dollar amount in his contract." That attitude about finding the right fit and not focusing on money does seem to me to point toward the Knicks, although when I wrote my last post, I hadn't found this article.

Here is something else that interests me.

"Right now I'm 31, but I'm probably the youngest 31-year-old you'll ever find," he said. "I play all the time. I don't feel like I've lost a step -- I'm pretty honest with myself. I feel like I'm actually getting better. I feel like these are my prime years."

I had looked at Jamal's statistics for the last two years. Two years ago, he shot a very high percentage (.449) and played much better than he had before. This last season, his shooting percentage and his other numbers were dramatically reduced (.421). Also Atlanta didn't want him back. Made me think that perhaps at 31, the guy that relied on speed and an excellent first step to get to the basket, might be slowing down. I thought the statement about this continuing to be his prime was an interesting piece.

No where in the article does he talk about worrying about what his mother wants..... .

To be fair, Atlanta installed a new motion offense last year and I think everyone's numbers took a bit of hit. That said, I don't believe it's that big of a loss.

the idea that crawford was coming here to be the scoring 6th man is pretty off base. he was coming here to be the lead guard, as he was for the 11 games he played under d'antoni in 2008.

i think it's a pretty big loss. but i think baron davis could be just as good. though i have a hard time believing cleveland will waive him. they need his salary on their cap to meet league minimum requirements. and no one, NO ONE, wants to sign in cleveland.

why would he even consider the knicks for $2.5M then? portland is guaranteeing him a starting job. our starting backcourt right now is toney douglas and landry fields. not exactly something you take to war in the playoffs. crawford would be starting. it's not really an issue at this point and d'antoni was never going to admit it unless crawford actually came here, but you can read between the lines of his comments yesterday where he said, "he won sixth man, he could score off the bench here, if something better or different worked out, we'd look at that." i mean, it's not an issue, whatever.

but portland is going to be a tough out with crawford starting (with a lot of former knicks, oddly).

PG Felton
SG Crawford
SF GWallace/Batum
PF Aldridge
C Camby/Kurt

Markji @ 12/14/2011 6:50 PM
Crawford isn't coming here so we have to move on.

Shawne Williams fills the most pressing need for us right now - a back-up PF/SF. Unless we have someone else ready to sign and we don't know about it, we should offer Shawne the room exception for 2 years and solidify that back-up position.

We don't even know if Baron Davis will be let go, and then we don't know if he will clear waivers. The Baron is too much of a longshot and the season is starting. Have to solidify the roster.

Allanfan20 @ 12/14/2011 6:56 PM
Alright kiddies, now it's time to get Shawne Williams here ASAP. I would have liked Crawfish, but not getting him certainly isn't the end of the world. We sure could use Williams defense and deep shooting so get him here nooooooow!

And it's over. Time to bring back Shawne.

LOL... you probably would have become a Nets fan if the Knicks got Crawford.

If it was not about the money, he'd be here already.

He can rebuild with Lamarcuz and Old Man Oden or finish the job here!

Dude has unfinished biz here.

could be about his family too? lots of money & near kids versus $2.5M with winning team on different coast than family.

sorry, thought there was a quote about "Winning"............They always take the money over winning. If it was about family, he'd be in Portland by now.

I don't begrudge him, he made a good choice.

I too don't think that Crawford was ever promised a starting position with the Knicks. His two former coaches defined a key role which they promised would help the Knicks flourish in the post season. The primary benefit the Knicks were selling was that they were a much better bet to compete for the championship in the next few years compared than Jamal's other alternatives. They probably also told him that his specific talents were critical to making their drive to a championship work.

When ever someone say's it's not about $ bet your last it was only about the $..Grant hill was the other culprit

EXACTLY!

He'd be a Knick if it wasn't about money because with NY he could've really been a main contributor of a championship contending team.

But you can't get paid 2.5 mill a season because thats just too low a salary. Bah!

Enjoy a playoff-less season in Sac-Town or Portland.

Portland would be pretty good if he went there. If he chooses Sacto - it's purely a money move.

Portland will have a good, deep squad, LMA and Camby were heavily recruiting him and his family is close to in Seattle.

I could respect him choosing Portland. Choosing Sacto would be pathetic.

Portland would basically be Knicks East with Crawford, Camby, Kurt Thomas, Felton there.

Right now I wonder which teams would make the playoffs in the West. Clearly the Blazers would have a good chance with Craw, but at the same time, the playoffs picture has really changed with the moves that have happened. The Clippers and Rockets should make it, while the Hornets and Nuggets should slip back. Lakers have taken a step back but still in shape to make it. Dallas has also taken a step back. Portland without Roy looks to have taken a step back, but still should figure to make it.

But in NY, I think Craw had a better chance of not only the playoffs, but maybe a Finals. Whatever, bring on whoever does want to play for us.
