In the NBA, "The Big Three" is simply played out. First it was the Celtics' Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Then it was the Heat's Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

Now that Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler have formed arguably the league's best frontcourt, we need a nickname for them. For starters, "The Bigger Three" could work because the trios mentioned above feature the 2 through 4 positions; not 3 through 5 like the Knicks.

Here are four other candidates:

1.) "The Big Apples"

2.) "The Broadway Bigs"

3.) "The STAT Squad"

4.) "The Triborough Trio"

What's your favorite? Got your own? Leave your comments below.

Definately need a nickname for this formidable frontline.

I'll start.

The Skyscrapers. Too corny?

The New York Three or NY3. There is some history to that name. http://www.kersplebedeb.com/mystuff/prof...

But I was gonna go with the Big Fluffy - remember the dog in the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

CashMoney @ 12/13/2011 9:07 AM

Can't refer our guys to anything from Harry Potter.... Cerberus would make a nice logo

That's the one I was trying to find and I kept coming with Ghidorah.
Cerberus is cool!

Nickname?

Amare, Carmelo and Tyson don't need no steenkin' nickname.

Amare can change his uni to Gallo's (and Spree's) former digit and simply call them six, seven and eight.

What they need? Our frontcourt needs to get acquainted in fourth quarter situations, keep their heads up, share the ball, hit the open man and ignore the beat writers expectations to mesh immediately.

Incremental steps baby.

"AMT"- Amare-Melo-Ty

"Two men and a Baby"

word association:

we call this front line Formidable Part Deux?

nixluva @ 12/13/2011 10:33 AM
ACT Isn't bad. I'm goin with LOD standing for the Legion Of Doom. Old comic reference. Something will stick.

The Times Square Triangle

Grandmaster Stat and The Furious Two

Stat and The Gang

Occupy MSG

Run NYC ("It's Tricky" or "My adidas" take your pick for a theme song)

The Seventh Avenue Trio

"It Takes Three" - Rob Base (Amare Stoudemire)/ DJ EZ Rock (Carmelo)

or, my personal favorite:

NYPD (New York Paint Department)

Best one I can think of is The Beastie Boys - From NY, name fits

Too bad them old warriors teams took RUN DMC. Could totally see

Tyson Chandler = Rev. Run: preaching the gospel of defense and TEAM
Melo = D.M.C because I have no idea. Damaging Mad Cats?
and of course Amare = Jam Master Jay!

Someone photoshop this

- The Ramones - another NY trio that rocked the world.

- Could steal what the giants RBs used when they had Jacobs, Bradshaw and Ward: Earth, Wind, Fire

- The 3 Wise Men
- Lock (Tyson and his D) Stock (Amare) and Barrel (Melo the gunner)
- Shake - Melo Rattle - Amare Roll - Tyson

I actually like the Big Apples suggestion. Corny? Absolutely, but I like the ring to it.
Olbrannon @ 12/13/2011 11:04 AM
The Manhattan Skyline.
nixluva @ 12/13/2011 11:15 AM
