Make no mistake: Deron Williams gets plenty of input into personnel decisions. Okur gives Nets some size and scoring w/ Brook Lopez out.

a little shocked. good save by the nets. they were doomed to win maybe 5 games without Bropez.

but seriously, what's up with the Nets/Utah connection?

Childs2Dudley @ 12/22/2011 7:50 PM
Okur is not really all that good anymore. He was never going to play behind Favors, Jefferson and Milsap anyway.

A second round pick though...that's the not ridiculous ish ever....how is that even a fair trade?
ramtour420 @ 12/22/2011 8:04 PM
Former all-star, 13 and 7 avg for his career, 46% Fg and 37% from downtown- for a stinking 2 nd round pick? Seems like a super steal.

ZBO had a lot left on the contract. Okur only has one. great pickup for the Nets.

CrushAlot @ 12/23/2011 12:13 PM
I think it might kill their cap space to absorb bad contracts for this season in a deal for Howard. They also were going after AK47 but are no longer able to do that. Still to get Okur for almost nothing is great.
TheGame @ 12/23/2011 12:18 PM
Utah saves from having to pay Okur $10.9 million to sit on the bench. That is why they did it. Okur is close FTP being done and was hurt moat of last year. The Nets are taking the chance that Okur has one more season in him so that their team does not tank the season.
PresIke @ 12/23/2011 12:18 PM
dude is recovering from some injuries.

he played 13 games last year, so there's a risk here. this isn't necessarily the same player, as can be said about davis with us.

they had cap space so they could absorb okur's salary.

good pickup for the nets, but both teams benefit.

I think Camby was traded for a second rounder as well.

Good pickup for nets.

They can trade Okur with BroPez and still take TurkeyGlue back. The Trade expemption just became Okur.

Can, not saying it will go down.

Personally I think it would be great for NY Hoop!

BITCH slapping a weak opponent does not make for anything interesting!

i don't think orlando will trade for brook lopez now. they made a big move for a guy with a stress fracture in his foot before - grant hill.

this article says they're basically forced to take bynum, who i think is the far superior player anyway.

Let’s face it: Andrew Bynum is coming to town
Orlando Magic — posted by brian schmitz on December, 23 2011 1:39 PM

Unless Dwight Howard changes his mind about moving on, the Magic now will be looking to deal him for Andrew Bynum in the wake of a serious injury to Brook Lopez, another potential Howard trade partner.

Lopez will undergo surgery to repair a stress fracture in the his foot.

Howard has listed New Jersey — Lopez’ team — as his top choice on his wish list. He also would agree to be sent to the Lakers — Bynum’s team.

Lopez’ injury has thrown a monkey wrench into a potential Howard deal with the Nets.

What Magic fan hasn’t already had a Grant Hill flashback?

The Magic signed Hill as a free agent in 2000 even though he had a stress fracture in his foot — and the move haunted them for seven years. Hill had only about two productive seasons.

You just never know about big men and their feet. Zydrunas Ilgauskas was bothered for years. A foot injury sent Yao Ming into retirement.

Can the Magic take the risk that Lopez will recover?

Can they acquire him for Howard in what will be their most critical trade in franchise history?

He won’t be playing by the March 15 trade deadline.

The Magic might have no choice but to trade Howard to the Lakers for Bynum, who has been fragile himself with knee problems. But Bynum has looked great this preseason — and healthy.

Certainly, the Magic have even less leverage now. They want both Bynum and power forward Pau Gasol for Howard, but L.A. knows the Magic can’t use the Nets now to pressure the Lakers into giving up both bigs.

The Magic’s only trump card: The Lakers must trade for Howard because they are too far over the salary cap to sign him as a free agent.

But what if Bynum’s knee troubles return before the deadline?

The Magic are already concerned about his health.

What do they do? Bynum’s the better player, and has only one more year left on his contract — and it’s at the team’s option. Might have to roll the dice on him.

Bynum has bad knees and is injured EVERY season.

Lopez has been hurt once and is younger. Plain and simple NJ can put together a better package.
