holy debbie downer. Dude did not get cut because of his lack of PG skills, just a numbers game with roster spots.

Debbie Downer? Not really.

The guy is a 3rd string PG at best. I dont really care who the 15th man is honestly.

He very well could only be a 3rd stringer. We'll see. And I'm not debating what he will or won't become.

Even if we accept that, he will play significant minutes for approximately one month while Shump and Davis get healthy, in a condensed season.

Whoever the Knicks signed to be a bench guy this right now is a meaningful signing given the circumstances.

Maybe that changes, but right now Lin will see meaningful minutes so forget about his ceiling and consider the here-and-now

PresIke wrote:well, guess there's not much wrong with the move, but hardly expect him to play.

maybe not though because we are pretty desperate for someone to run the point.

he has showed flashes, and folks on this forum have been drooling over lin since summer league last year, as i recall.

he might get a chance, but we also might not see him play at all.

after Davis and Shump get better, agree

Given the current circumstance, for the next 2 to 6 weeks, disagree

Good prediction BIGCATS.

Just going to point out that both John Starks, Anthony Mason and JJ Barea were all cut by the Golden State Warriors at one time. I'm not saying Lin could be them, but we need his particular skill set right now, and he may play above himself as all he has ever wanted was an opportunity.

Thanks, Commander. I humbly accept the position.

BTW, I enjoyed hearing about what your father had to say about this signing...and agree wholeheartedly!

I hope that (undrafted) Jeremy can STICK (and learn to play better defense like you said Martin).

Knick fans on this board who can't find some joy in this signing should check their pulse.

But unless we are blowing someone out, or being blown out, don't expect to see him get minutes until next week.

Gotta give Grunwald credit. He's doing an excellent job.

Think of what Lin will learn, sitting next to his California homeboy, Baron Davis.

Guy is a a second round pick who was playing on a bad team with too many 6'3" guys who wanted/needed the ball in their hands.

He will get the opportunity to show what he has got in NY and we wish him the best. Lin gotta play defense too if he wants to stick.

The only Jeremy that interests me in Golden State is Jeremy Tyler. Deandre Jordan was a 2nd round pick and 2 years later he is signing a 40+ million dollar contract.

Yes, "all he ever wanted was an opportunity." Love it.

Hello sunshine, 3rd string PG is exactly what we were looking for. Though I admit the effusive reaction on this thread left me scratching my head.

we've been without meth since about May, and just got a pound a few weeks ago. we're on an all out binge

i think he is a project that is missing some physical size/skill to adjust in the NBA, that Warriors never really wanted to let go off.
They kept him in that long, because he shows that he is good at certain things, however, with their 2nd round picks, Jenkins, and their rest of their roster, Lin probably wont
get to play.

I hope Briggs, come back more, know he felt like we made the wrong move with Melo, however, the amnestied came back to save us.
Or possibly haunt us, if Amare or Melo also go down. Know Lin was one of the many prospects he liked that year and I hope he comes back to share more of his 2 cents with
us. It looks more and more like NBA GM's/scouts or w/e, including the Knicks and Dallas, read our boards.
Dallas has grabbed Sean Williams, Brandon Wright, Fesenko, Carter, and West, as some of us, have pointed out.

I think many of us 4get that the amnesty clause saved our butts, this year, as Dolans pockets helped too. We gave up a lot in the Melo trade and it was a horrible move that the Amnesty Clause allowed us to get Tyson Chandler. Personally, I would prefer our old team over what we gave up for Melo, keeping the Amnesty, and all the assets, possibly being
in this Cp3/Deron Sweepstakes, and having the cap room/assets to use. Kris Humphries looks like he is going to have a great year and that 1 year deal he got will pay out for him next year. He is undersized, however, he hustles a lot, and is a double double machine. As great as Melo has been playing, a pure PG would allow us to take great shots, and control the tempo. Baron Davis is going to be the key, another amnesty that saved us. However, is he going to be a 1/2 year rental or part of our future?
Without the Melo trade, I believe we were still deep enough to compete last year and would have the depth this year as well. We also would be able to sign a FA this year.
I think the current team is better than our old team, but the old team plays the system better, and team basketball. The addition of a quality center with FA with the cap room, would allow us us to improve our defense, which is all we really needed. I am happy with the current team, with the additions of Tyson Chandler and Baron Davis, but to give credit to the Melo trade to allow us to get to where we are today is really misleading. It has a lot more to due with the amnesty clause and a couple of things fell our way.

We all see the production of Amare is slipping and Melo with Amare isn't meshing together as great as they sound. Once Baron Davis comes back, we are going to see if he is the missing key to the production of a pick n roll PG, if he is healthy. The way we won the Celtics game and fell behind, is a sign that our team right now, isn't as great as we think it is. It will take some time. We needed a great effort by Melo and Amare, to go with TD having a pretty good game, to barely win the game. There were a lot of questionable shots
the team took and hit, but weren't quality shots. I think we still need a few quality role players for depth. Most importantly, we need someone that could penetrate consistently.
I watched the Wolves game yesterday, Barea, is a pretty solid defender. He stays in front of his man and does some acting for push offs, that many NBA players do, for chargees/offensive foul. He also allows great penetration, while great things happen, while the defense greats broken down.

I think the Wolves, played a tough team and was actually up most of the game, in the Thunder, and they won't be nearly as bad as they have been in their past. The shortened seasons, benefits team like theirs, allows their young legs, depth, athleticism, and mainly same team with more experience this year together. The roles of Rubio, Barea, and Derrick, Williams are very clear and go great with their team. Once Nikola Pekovic and Brad Miller can contribute, they will be even deeper. I think their 1st round pick this year can range this year, and Eric Gordon will be the best asset New Orleans actually gained from the Cp3 trade.

I am happy we went out there and filled a need. Didn't get all the details yet do assuming its a short ten day type contract?

Knicks claimed him off waivers, so I *think* that means we own the contract he was previously signed to, but that contract in not fully guaranteed, ie when Shump and Baron are ready he can be cut without too many financial consequences.

earthmansurfer @ 12/27/2011 11:35 AM
I believe we did work Lin out when he came out for the draft.

Guys who don't like him - He is a better PG than Douglas AND IT AIN'T EVEN CLOSE! Really, Lin is a real PG who knows how to pass well. As others have said he is a GREAT penetrator and gets to the rim with ease. You know what that means with this line-up and Chandler in the middle (and with Lin's IQ)? Yeah, easy buckets and assists. He is a very good defender considering his speed is not super.

Honestly, I have been hoping we would get this guy for two years. He is made for this offense. Even if it's a little soon, he is a better option right now and could step in with Melo out there, no problem. Really, he is a big upgrade over Douglas and we just beat the Celtics with Douglas starting. Lin can play with Douglas as well.

Excellent pick up, best we could get and I wanted this cat anyway. See, Iman going down was a hidden blessing (well, I'm saying it will be) - Just watch this guy go.

and certainly kudos to BigCats but BRIGGS was the first to really target this guy waaaaay back with Lin was still at Harvard.

yeah, i do think it's quite possible he plays, especially if bibby is not doing it, over the next month or so.

this is true, and probably the legit reason why there was such a reaction to the signing. we were all aware of him because of Briggsy. TMS was also a Lin advocate. The board was definitely aware of him for sometime, mostly due to BRIGGS

VDesai @ 12/27/2011 11:40 AM
Cool, lets see what he can do
