I had the same reaction. I've only seen highlights of Lin and 90 seconds of him as a Knick but I was already thinking he might be our best PG.
because you are a major advocate of getting proper sample size.
I sure hope Baron stays healthy and can get this team to gel. Both of which aren't a guarantee. I have zero confidence in Douglas and Bibby at point. I don't care how dominant their front court is, they're not winning anything with those two at point.
i'd give Lin a look at PG. be nice to get him a practice or two first.
otherwise, wait for Baron. it's a real shame Iman went down - this would be a great opportunity for him.

Agree.
We're stuck with what we have.
We just have to figure it out...SOON!
My solution?
Give Jeremy Lin more minutes, please.
It's not 8 weeks- BD has been with us over a week now, so the schedule is 3 to 7 weeks, and I pray it's closer to 3 weeks. We may as well try out Jeremy Lin, it would be pretty impressive if he could somehow be a worse PG than TD or Bibby! It's not just our PG though, but our whole offense- nearly every attempt by anyone to pass to anyone seems to end in a turnover- the whole team is out of synch. Good play by a PG may be an important boost, but the other players need to do a better job of passing and recieving the ball as they get more familiar at playing with each other.
Lin just needs 1 or 2 practices to get accustomed with playing with the other guys, where they like to receive the ball etc. Unfortunately I don't see him starting tonight but maybe Saturday @Sacramento
I can live with TD starting tonight, but after the 2nd quarter and once we start to slip in our play, I would let him in and give him long minutes.

I think MDA will persist will TD for a few games because he is the better three pt shooter. I am Ali in favor of seeing what Lin has over TD at this point.
I remember that it was about this time last year when we were saying the same things about Raymond Felton and his inability to run the pick and roll. I was one of those posters. If I learned anything during that experience, it's that 2 game si way too early for people to start having panic attacks about the point guard situation.

The problem is TD and he hasn't showed that he can be a point.
I hear ya but felton was a brand new PG and needed time to help with the team. Douglas has played in this system for years and hasn't learned anything and he has had plenty chances to start and show what he can and can't do

At this point last season Felton had been with the team for 2-3 games. TD had all of last season after the trade to show even a little understanding of what a pick and roll is. Felton is PG was PG before coming to NY, TD can never even aspire to be a second string PG of the bench. Would you really want a QB who doesn't know where his receivers are, doesn't survey the field and predictably throws into triple coverage every time?
like mark sanchez..sorry jet fans only kidding
Felton is a PG. Douglas isn't.
Felton was new to the team. Douglas has been here for a few seasons already.
Felton improved running the offense with time. Douglas hasn't.
Some of the best teams in nba history didn't have a quality pg. The Jordan teams never did; the Kobe teams didn't either. We do miss Felton, but if Carmelo was as good as most people think, we would be fine.
Those teams didn't play D'antoni's system.
their stars, were great great 2 way players that can facilitate, score, and defend.
Its really no comparison, Melo and Amare take bad shots but can hit them.
When they hit it, it looks great, unfortunately their will be nights that they miss.
But it doesn't make a bad shot become a good shot just because they hit it.
We lack a PG, players that can penetrate, players that can spread the floor, and speed/quickness on both ends of the court.
We need players that can do that before, we can play as a team, and a system.
Smith last night and Jeremy Lin understands a PG's duty a lot better than TD.
Fields is not a SG, he is a backup SF. Amare and Melo are scorers that can make a play every now n then but are not facilitators.
TD has the speed but not the basketball IQ on both ends. Defensively he doesn't know how to play the PG honest and limit his moves.
Fields doesn't have the speed/quickness, skill sets to facilitate/penetrate/pass, to create.
They both can be great players off the bench with the right players but aren't starting quality, especially together.

Sorry, didn't realize we ran the triangle offense.
Nearly every championship team that DIDN'T run a triangle offense still had strong point guard play. From Isaiah Thomas to Tony Parker to Chauncey Billups to Rajon Rondo to Jason Kidd. We need a guard who can run the offense, or at the very least, be able to get into the paint and setup teammates with simple drive and dishes (which is what Golden State ended up doing to us in the second half, outside of a couple give-and-go plays between Monta and DLee).
We're not Miami who has a natural playmaker from the forward position. And even then, Wade is a better passer than any of our guards.
We desperately need a PG or it's just going to be iso's for the next 3-7 weeks. I mean thank God we at least have Baron waiting on the bench. That was a Godsend. Imagine if he didn't clear waivers?
Scoshin - if Baron Davis did not clear waivers the Panic Alert would be at red. As it stands, it's yellow.
Toney Douglas is not a lead guard. He is a retreating guard
I hope no one expect the Baron of old because he isnt the same player but he is better than what we have at the moment.

Our top two players still don't compliment each other. Unless their skill sets change or at least one is traded, we won't have a well planned roster regardless of who the PG is. A better PG can improve the team but I don't know of any contending teams where the top two scorers don't compliment each other.
