Toney Douglas is not a lead guard. He is a retreating guard

Our top two players still don't compliment each other. Unless their skill sets change or at least one is traded, we won't have a well planned roster regardless of who the PG is. A better PG can improve the team but I don't know of any contending teams where the top two scorers don't compliment each other.

When we lost Billups and added Tyson, we solved a problem that was of small-to-medium importance (having Amare at C rather than a traditional C) while creating a huge problem (no PG on the roster).

Baron is faaaaaar from finished, but still any contribution from him will probably be better than what we have right now.

Felton was new to the team. Douglas has been here for a few seasons already.

Felton improved running the offense with time. Douglas hasn't.

That's what made Felton's struggles at the time even more frustrating. He's played the point guard position for most of his life and he was still having trouble orchestrating a pick and roll. I know TD isn't a true point guard. But I'm not ready to give up on him after game two of training camp shortened season.

At the half Landry had the lead in points and TD had the team lead in rebounds with 6.

Eh, Felton is not really a playmaking PG though. He's a scorer and a floor general. He's actually more in the mold of Billups.

There's two types of point guards imo. A floor general and a playmaker.

The floor general isn't exactly the greatest passer (inaccurate lobs or can't thread the needle) or doesn't have the greatest court vision, but they're usually smart guards who can execute offensive sets from the playbook. Given time to learn the tendencies and favored shooting spots of their teammates, they can run an offense effectively, and rack up 8+ assists like Billups did in Detroit.

The playmaker, like a QB who can improvise on the fly, can read and see the floor so well that they can jump onto a new team and still create easier shots for their teammates. Playmakers are also best suited as guards who can break their man off the dribble, cause if they can't even do that, then they're not really "making plays," but running offensive sets and finding the open cutter. Which is why imo, point-forwards are generally stupid (unless you're a freak of nature like LeBron).

This system and Amar'e particularly needs a playmaker, not a floor general. We need someone who can get creative with his passes, improvise on the break, run the pick and roll, etc. There are so very few of these in the NBA which is why I always advocated for CP3 over Dwight back when we were debating over those two pipe dreams.

The problem with TD is he hasn't shown any inkling of being either a floor general or a playmaker. He's just flat out dumb and is a chucking SG in a PG's body. I'm not sure about Shumpert either, but from the few games we've seen, he too seems to have a trigger finger, but at least that comes off his drives, rather than TD's 3-pt bombs.

Baron Davis is literally our only salvation and we have to pray he gets fully healthy. He is most certainly a playmaker, even though he has a tendency to chuck up bad shots when on bad teams.

I would be ecstatic if TD had the led in assists instead. Pointing out one stat as proof of worthiness when it is beyond obvious the guy can't do what we are asking him to do is kinda useless.

The knicks as a team had 15 assists. Douglas had 2.

Right now we are playing so bad, I wonder if a PG can solve this.

We really suck...

Baron will solve a lot. Though not sure if he'll fix Amar'e.

May be too late by the time Baron comes back. Didn't think that before but after seeing this terrible play, Im afraid of how bad our record will look.

a real PG and extended in-season training camp will solve everything
