Knicks · Carmelo trade killed the future (page 7)

Pissing in the wind bro....That lovable losing Knicks of last year was destined for an 8th seed last year and its ceiling was about 7 maybe 6 seed max before the Amare is too old trade threads would have began. George Karl is by far a better coach than MDA its not even close.

I honestly believe people on this board are more intrigued by the potential player A might have/or what player B could become rather than what already is especially if he aint home grown as if that ever meant anything....

When you supposedly have the best frontcourt in the NBA there is no excuse to get manhandled on the boards and blown out on back to back nights.

The combination of Chandler, Felton, Gallo outweighs what Carmelo brings. We have no offensive cohesion, there is no ball movement, guys are just standing around and we have no one left to space the floor. The trade also negatively impacted our remaining starters; Landry looks lost out there and Amare looks like a completely different player.

We have a center and power forward who thrive on playing with talented point guards and we have no one to get them the ball. We allowed a player with virtually no options play in New Jersey or resign with Denver to gut our team because he wasn’t savvy enough to sign the same contracts that Lebron, Wade and Bosh entered into.

When you’re season depends on Baron Davis and rookie; it’s sobering especially since paying three guys 52MM. I know it's a short season, but we don't have defensive guys to fall back on. Intensity shouldn't take nights off.

AS I have said many times on every forum I have been on.. this trade was not necessary and pretty much killed the momentum we had with amare and the young kids.... I am watching denver now.. they are so much better than we are...

Are you saying you switched teams?

Yep. You are correct.

Anyone actually watching these games knows that Melo is trying his best to get other people involved. He didn't look for his until the 4Q tonight. He's been incredible. But until tonight no one was making shots around him.

This team with this roster is going to be hard to keep under 100 most nights. We just have to play DECENT defense and we'll be fine.

If you're running a team you look for a number of different things, chemistry, flexibility, a superstar, a system.

Melo sadly is not a superstar as much as everyone tries to convince themselves he is. (Lebron, Kobe, Dirk, Wade, Howard, Rose, Durant) he's not someone that makes guys better (Nash, CP3, Rondo, Dwill). He's a pure scorer that rarely dedicates himself to improving his body in the offseason and plays defense selectively.

So we traded a young backup center locked in at $3MM who can actually play; a point guard that was averaging 17pt 7ass, and two above average small fowards that could do a little bit of everything. Throw in a first round pick, which is overlooked (Douglas, Fields, Iman) this team has been drafting solid rotation guys, moved Anthony Randloph, had to take Balkman and replicated our best player who is an All Star, but not a superstar.

To compound the stupidity we use the amnesity clause to bring in a big man that virtually built his repuation on one season and a good playoff run.

We are now locked with three guys two of which don't play defense, one has no offensive game and need spacing and a talented point guard to get them the ball.

And as good as Amare is, he is a health risk. If you're ranking the power fowards in this league right now, where do you put him?

Again, water under the bridge, but it's not. I am sick of watching this team come out slow with no intensity. We didn't lose to one of the worst teams in the league, we got blown out on our home floor. To a team with no All-Star, Superstar and a roster you would have trouble naming two guys on.

Melo is a superstar man. Please stop it. The guy will probably have an extended career because he doesn't rely on athleticism to make plays as much as the other guys you listed. Plus he is at worst the 3rd best SF in the NBA.

Our backcourt is beyond terrible. Douglas is in way over his head and Fields has been putrid.

We dont even need an allstar caliber PG. Sessions or Lowry would be a HUGE upgrade over our current trash.

MS, I couldn't have said it better and suddenly feels a bit less lonely.

I have very few hopes (baring waves of injuries to other teams) that the Knicks can win it all as long as they'll will be built around great scorers who don't defend and don't make their teammates better.

I'm sick of that crap, sick of Dolan, sick of being the laughingstock of the league.

Since the trade, I watched as many Nuggets games than Knicks, first time I dit such a thing in what... nearly 20 years... And I love the unselfish play, the defense and the fun on the court I see there.

Melo is Marbury 2.0 and sadly, we've been there already and found nothing good.

Lebron is a superstar, Kobe is a superstar. Melo is an allstar, that's a huge difference.

What I dont like is we have so much money in three guys. I dont know if this team was in the correct position to spend its additional(and very lucky) extra $$$ on Tyson Chandler. If Im going to spend the max or whatever he got--I want a guy capable of giving me 18-10 with the defense and I dont think that is him(does Tyson even fit in with a Mike D team?). This is the team and I hope they can win because alterations to it will be more than difficult. My first judgement would be to move Mike D--its clearly not working and its a short season--no time for early season faltering. You have Mike Woodson--make him the head coach--he did well in Atlanta.
AnubisADL @ 1/5/2012 10:33 AM
I guess I'm watching a different game then you guys.

Our backcourt issues are leading to alot our front court issues on the offensive and defensive end.

Our guards are matador defenders which leads to the defense collapsing and Chandler getting into foul trouble or being out of position to rebound.

Our guards cant score or make plays on the offensive end whichs leads to one on one iso plays. Amare trying to score one on one and Chandler trying score down low is bad. This reminds me of when Duhon used to pass the ball too Jefferies in the corner because he was open.

I'm with you Briggs. Time to move on from MDA. Talent does not fit the coach not anywhere near! Woodson will at least eventually have them playing some D. And im not talking as a "defensive coordinator" but HEAD COACH
