Knicks · Carmelo trade killed the future (page 3)

Amare-Melo combo is a stupid starphuck.

We would have been better with:

Gallo
Amare
Chandler-Mozgov
Fields
Felton

And with the picks we gave away, and Randolph we still retained assets to do a trade.

Maybe its for Deron willioms, maybe we had the juice for Paul.

No, the team at the time of MeloDrama was not championship caliber, but neither is it with melo and a thin roster.

Fear of the future. Perhaps we were better, maybe not.

Maybe we just need to let this team get it together instead of projecting failure.

Dude!!! Are you ever going to let this go?! Stop banging your head against the same wall, open your eyes and realize a new door was opened and sealed shut behind. No turning back.

With the success that D'Antoni had with Amare and Nash why would you not try to emulate that here in NY by holding out for Williams or Paul instead of trading for Carmelo and having a pairing(two ball stoppers) that does not fit the D'Antoni system. I think Dolan saw Anthony going to the Nets and he panicked and forced the trade. Patience would have been a virtue in my mind. But in NY with everyone calling for firings after every loss there can never be patience.

All that being said, we can still win with the team we have. Unfortunately there are more ifs and hopes with this make up. With the Paul/Amare pairing we would know exactly what we were getting and know we had a coach that could make that type of pairing gel(we saw it with Lee/Duhon and Felton/Amare). Now we have two elite ball stopping scorers working for a coach whose offense is designed around ball movement. We need our coach to figure it out and adapt or the players. It can be done, and after 3 games to be panicking it's ridiculous. But we could also find ourselves 60 games in to this season and finally realize that one of these two stars needs to be traded. I think Baron's leadership(haven't seen enough of him to know if he is a top level leader, his career does not suggest it) will determine our fate in the short run. A strong PG can turn an offense around overnight.

l

Melo essentially force his way to ny....no one thought we had the talent to make a trade for a super star..but there weren't going to let him go for nothing...MDA needs a pg and this team will be golden...they just look like they never played with each other..kinda like a pick u game

If your main point was to say "let this team get it together instead of failure," What was the point of the other rehashed rhetoric you've been spewing since the trade went down?

s3231 @ 12/30/2011 4:06 PM
I didn't like the Melo trade as I felt like we gave up more than we had to (we put best offer out there way too early and there were no other options for Melo).

With that said, it's way too early to make any definitive conclusions. Anyone remember last season when we started out 3-8? People were saying we messed up free agency and that Felton was an awful PG that exposed D'Antoni for needing a great PG for his system.....anyone remember what happened afterwards?

Give them more time. This is still a brand new team with a brand new PG and it is going to take some time for us to gel just like last season. If we're at game 33 and we still look like this then I will be worried just like the rest of our fans. However, it's still too early to be this concerned after game 3....

Starphuchers be patient. If your gonna starphuch, you have to recognize you give up some things to get another. TD is it for the moment.

The PG thing is a big issue but this is where D'Antonio needs to earn his check. D'Antoni is getting exposed big time. Dude needs to adapt.

I think we were better set up for the future with what we had

The Felton-Amare combo was close to unstoppable. Amare avg 20 sumthin points, felton 17 and 9.
Gallo and chandler did the rest, and all we needed was a Center. And pre trade we were a dangerous team, now we're a predictable team

Yeah, except for starting the season 3-8. Or the 6 game losing streak in January. Or their 28-26 record just before the trade.

lol. ah nostalgia. it works even when thats not really happened.
crzymdups @ 12/31/2011 12:44 AM
i think the knicks would have had a ceiling similar to the portland trail blazers if they hadn't gotten melo.

now, their ceiling is higher, even if the on the court product is behind what it was pre-trade. that said, i have mixed feelings on the trade, still.

i'm just waiting and praying on baron and trying not to think about woulda coulda shoulda.

time to move on. cuz while we're at it, i really disliked the camby/nene for mcdyess trade.

ramtour420 @ 12/31/2011 2:32 AM
This is silly. You can't kill the future. Its still gonna come. This team, when healthy is, how should I put it, may I use caps please? Its BETTER than what we were before Melo trade. If key people are injured that has nothing to do with Melo trade. If Baron Davis is not injured do you think he would be on our team? Lets just see these guys play when healthy. I really liked Felton too, don't get me wrong. I predicted 18/8, if I am not mistaken, for him on our team before he ever played for us. Losing him have set us back a step but we took 3-4 steps forward since then.

And no one seems to do nostalgia quite like Knick fans! It's funny how everyone loves Ewing now, and Allan Houston, when I remember people did nothing but complain about those two for the whole of their careers. Just like when people were praying for Jamal Crawford to sign with us this offseason, when they used to hate him when he actually played for us.

Lessons for us all: panic less, appreciate what you hve when you have it and keep things in perspective (though it's hard to do though when the teams stinking up the place and losing quarters by 20+)

NYKBocker @ 12/31/2011 12:24 PM
I still believe that we have the best frontline in the NBA. Shump is going to be a staple in the 2 spot. We just need a PG. Hopefully, Baron has something left in his tank. MDA needs to play Lin ASAP. He can't be any worse than TD and Bibby.

And yes, I didn't like the trade either.

MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 12/31/2011 12:26 PM
The six game losing streak before the trade was in large part because of the trade rumors.

You take that team, tell them this is it, we are the team, and they're winning 48 games last year.

If thats the excuse, then the Nuggs get to use the same excuse as to why they struggled before the trade....

Not the same situation. There you had a star who wanted to move, here you had young, fragile little egos that needed nurturing.

Well, alright, this can still turn out good, so I should not be so negative.

MS wrote:This trade will continue to be the most polarizing in the history of the franchise, but when you really break it down this trade robbed us of our depth, flexibility and turned a superstar into a complimentary all-star.
When you supposedly have the best frontcourt in the NBA there is no excuse to get manhandled on the boards and blown out on back to back nights.

The combination of Chandler, Felton, Gallo outweighs what Carmelo brings. We have no offensive cohesion, there is no ball movement, guys are just standing around and we have no one left to space the floor. The trade also negatively impacted our remaining starters; Landry looks lost out there and Amare looks like a completely different player.

We have a center and power forward who thrive on playing with talented point guards and we have no one to get them the ball. We allowed a player with virtually no options play in New Jersey or resign with Denver to gut our team because he wasn’t savvy enough to sign the same contracts that Lebron, Wade and Bosh entered into.

When you’re season depends on Baron Davis and rookie; it’s sobering especially since paying three guys 52MM. I know it's a short season, but we don't have defensive guys to fall back on. Intensity shouldn't take nights off.

Dude it's been 3 games. Offensive cohesion takes time, especially! Our starting PG is on the mend and our injured rook will play a huge roll on this team. They got blown out by a good Warriors team who just came off of beating the Bulls and the Lakers. Kobe was hitting everything that game and they were in it until the 4th quarter run. So the defense was better before? This team is much better than before.
