Knicks · Get a grip guys: Its only 3 games into a strike shortened season (page 1)

I been quietly observing the Knicks these past few weeks since the season got reinstated. The Tyson Chandler trade from heaven. Signing Bibby. Shumpert looking like a draft day steal in preseason. Picking up Baron Davis off fresh off of clearinb amnesty waivers. It was fun for a hot second because it seemed the basketball gods had thrown us a bone for the first time in 10 years. The season starts and all it took was a third quarter implosion for every single Knicks fan to abandon ship. You guys should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves!

I bought my 8 year old son his first Knicks hat just before Christmas so he could have it in time for the game. I taught him his first lesson in becoming a fan of a team. NO FLIP FLOPPING! Once you are a fan, in the Knicks case you need to also understand that the Celtics are public enemy number one. I went into depth teaching him the history of every NY sports team and I think he understood what responsibility he has now. I learned this on my own following sports all my life. I wonder what in the world happened to New York fans especially when it concerns the NY Knicks? Sure we've had a rough decade. Quite embarrassing to say the least. As of today none of that matters because of whahts going on with the team today. The Knicks have the talent and the ability to manuver the roster as it sees fit. It should be all sunshine eand Daisy's for all of us.

Lockout....shortened training camp....short preseason....early injuries. Did I miss something? Forget the Knicks for a second. Dallas and Boston have yet to win a game. Do you see the media throwing them under the bus? I mean the Knicks beat Boston on Christmas but you would never have known if you watched the NBA tv highlights or listened to the bums on TNT. What is it about having New York on the chest that brings on such hate and disrespect? Fans are undulging in self hate already. Its only been 3 games! Reggie Miller was killing the Knicks last night while calling the Lakers game. In my opinion, the refs were calling alot of stupid calls. Travels, offensive fouls, not calling fouls on the shot allowing the Lakers to capitalize on the turnovers. Lets just ignore the fact that the Knicks are hobbled and trying to run the offense through Melo for the first time without a real training camp. Lets ignore the fact that Landry and Tony Douglas are playing gout of position and over their heads as fill in starters. Baron Davis and Shumpert are hurt. One never played a game for the Knicks the other is a rookie. One could take the dark road and say the Knicks are in trouble if they are waiting for those guys to save them. You could also skip through the tulips and acknowledge that Shumpert is probably a first team all rookie selection/rookie of the year candidate. Baron is also a walking 15 points and 7 assist guy. Add those elements and the Knicks would probably be undefeated right now.

I ask you Knick fan. Where are your balls? I'm not talking Spaulding either. Find your courage. Drink your kool-aid and get back on the bandwagon before I start naming names up in here! Lets give this time. Its a short season, but its still 60 something games to be played. I think its ironic that "Sactown" is up next. Grow a pair will ya? The Knicks are on the road now. Lets get ready for the home stand and get behind our guys till health and reinforcements get here!

Nice. Everything in this article is very accurate, from our out of position backcourt who should be our 6th and 7th men off the bench, to the post Celts game comments.

YUP! It's always been frustrating to see the "rats jumping from a sinking ship" attitude in NY. Nothing's ever put in perspective. I realize it's NY and all they care about is wins, but there's no sense of understanding. "Fire D'Antoni", "Make a trade", "This isn't going to Work"... It's just reactionary NY reflexes. You can't win with that kind of approach. Things will settle down. There's going to come a time when things improve for this team but we can't panic and the team can't panic. Not yet at least.

my balls are in my hand.

Oh... and good post. This should be preseason game 6 (with a shortened training camp). Please people....

We have good players and good coaches. Let them fix this. It doesnt hurt that the schedule gets quite soft. Watch the Knicks go 8-2 over the next 10

To say it's only 3 games is to believe everything resets at the start of a new season without realizing that ownership and the plan haven't changed in about 10 years.

Thanks for that. Personally, i'm finding it hard to read any threads here lately. I have no diubt that this team should head into the playoffs strong and will be a tough out for anybody. We have the best roster we've had in a long time. MDA's system is not one that anyone is going to learn in an hour and a half even if they did go to Harvard. I'm sure due to the shortened traing camp and preseason we are seeing a dumbed down version of the offense with more time spent on defensive alignments. Come April, we should see the whole thing come together.

I'm also convinced after watching these games that the team is working hard and has some dead legs. Gonna just take some time and patience. They are skilled, they are commited and they are in shape. Just a matter of time till these guys click. While they are not fun to watch right now, better days are coming soon

Except that everyone is operating on the same shortened training camp. And it's not preseason game 6, it's game 3 regular season. We shall see but the way they play is far more concerning than the actual losses.

Poor rebounding
bad defense

have been going on for years now not just up to 'preseason game 6'

no offensive coordination
little ball movement

Are relativity new developments that should improve alot.
66
poor in game adjustments

Another multi year fixture.

It seems that the chronic problems are the ones we should worry about and we really have no solution whether it's game 66 or preason game 6.

and Boston and Dallas are 0-3, Memphis is 0-2. Clippers lost by 25 to the Spurs. Who next lost by 20 to the Rockets

Knicks are 1-2 and have Sac, Tor, Cha, Wash, Det, Cha, Phili for the next 7 games before things get tougher again (in like 11 days)

Also, it has taken a full training camp plus about 15 regular season games before D'Antoni's teams seem to figure things out and get on a roll. 15 games is a quarter of a season this year. If they need the additional time that they normal have with preseason to figure things out they could be in a pretty big hole.

How many "get a grip" threads have we had over the years? How many of those people pleading for "patience" turned out to be right? I'd venture to guess zero.

Fair. But we also never had this good of a roster. If patience was ever warranted, it's now.

See this is the ish that get's me angry. We weren't wrong last year! So why act like this team has failed to live up to expectations every single time??? Even before the trade the team was not a failure. If not for all the drama of possible trades last years team likely would've had an even better record before the trade. A few years back MDA had the team playing decent before the trade of Zach and Jamal. There have been times where this team has performed and yet there has been nothing but change. I read that MDA has had 65 different players. That is unheard of. Never happened before.

As for yet another poor start don't you think it would've made a difference if we had a normal preseason where the team had more time to get it together? That not being the case teams with lots of new players like the Knicks have to figure it out on the fly. Most analysts figured the Knicks would start off struggling and then get it together so why are all the doubters coming out acting like this is some shock. There were bound to be struggles with no PG. We all knew TD was gonna have struggles as would Melo trying to learn a new role.

How many times have we been told "we never had this good a roster"?

I think the beginning of last season was the first time in a long time anyone had hope that our roster was decent. Are suggesting that's not the case?

Just to be clear the team you are referencing to show D'Antoni was a good coach with the Knicks played 11 games together and was 6-5? Also, do you consider that D'Antoni was 61-103 and there wasn't significant player turnover in regards to his rotation for about 130 games during that two year span. Have you watched the four guys not moving or cutting on offense the past two games. The Knicks are supposed to have an offensive genius running things. I know there is a point guard deficit but how do you explain no movement. Also, I can't disregard 61-103 as a roster problem when I saw the rotations, witnessed the drama and lack of preperation for opponents. Not having your ideal roster doesn't mean you don't try. Not having top ten guys on your roster doesn't mean you treat your job like you don't give a sh@t.

Yes, after every starphuck (starting with McDyess), we were told this.

Actually it seems to be more fifty/fifty- sometimes the panic turns out to be right, but sometimes it's proved wrong- remember the start of last season and the slow start? Or those losing streaks followed by win streaks? Remember a season or two before that when people were saying Gallo would never recover from that back injury? Or back in 1999 when people were having a meltdown proclaiming we weren't going to make the playoffs?

If we win against the Kings (and its far from a sure thing), we'll have 2-2 record (or 4-2 if you count the preseason)- all this trauma and we can still be at 50%- ridiculous!

CashMoney @ 12/31/2011 12:54 PM
We blow out the Kings tonight and go on a nice win streak and everyone's happy. 1 loss after that and it's fire MDA, no bench depth, no defense, MELO sucks, STAT ins't exlposive enough, Chandler was paid too much, blah, blah, blah. This is a Knick FAN Forum.....get behing the team and stop crying people. LET'S GO KNICKS!!!!!!!!!!!
