If that's true then why are the Celts hot to get rid of Rondo? And who's been playing point for the Lakers again? And Dallas waited until Kidd was 400 years old to decide he was a franchise PG?

Kobe, LeBron, Jordan, these are exceptional players that make that rule a little looser.

So it's the most important position in the game...except when it's not.

Yea, exactly.

It's the most important for most teams because Kobe, Jordan, and LeBron are once-a-generation talents; the exceptions to the rule.

And the 3 of them are playmakers. Championship teams don't need pgs, they need playmakers.
Huge fraking difference.

Which position is usually the playmaker on a team?

The guy stayed in Europe an extra 2 years and still has no jumper.

We need a PG who can hit shots.

It's most important that he sets the plays up, dishes the balls. Kidd couldn't hit the big, wide side of a barn until he turned 43 and he is one of the top Ones of all time.

Because Rondo isn't a franchise PG. I agree with your premise about PG's in general but Rondo is a bad example. You don't build around Rondo. You build with him. Rondo would pout up better stats as the 4th option HERE, in LA, or in Miami then as the 1st option on NO or any other team.

It depends.
For instance over the last 15 years, it nearly never was at pg.
For detroit Billups was the playmaker, for Boston we could argue that the whole big 4 is made of playmakers.
Lakers and bulls were triangle based offense, so the system was the playmaker, but in desperate time, the SG was.

Imagine Shumpert becomes that playmaker and somehow Phil ends up here...Mmmmm Triangle with lethal frontcourt (Droool)

Not sure Phil would come here, since Dolan is a dick and the roster is not that good.
Jaxx is an insane coach, but he also always pick the best rosters he want to coach.
Shaq and jordan lite was very appealing, more so than Amare + melo imho.
