Barring any setbacks in warm-ups (AMARE !!!), STAT and Shumps should be back in lineup tonight. Hopefully just what the doctor ordered.

Hopefully they get in tune fast. It would be really nice to win the next 5 straight.

"we plays 'em one game at a time."

It would be even better to watch ball movement without the dribble. Win or lose.

Wish I could watch the game. FUCK MSG!

We need these guys in the lineup playing together. Those two guys are critical. I like Fields a lot but the more I watch him the more its clear he's not an NBA starter. He's way to slow to guard NBA 2s. Derozen exposed his YMCA defense.

I have no doubt that our starting backcourt ends up being Baron/Shump with Douglas playing 30 minutes off the bench at both guard spots. Douglas has been pretty solid last couple of games. The problem is Bibby is simply terrible, and Douglas has a style of play that cant go for 40 minutes without wearing him down too much.

Getting Amare back will be huge as well. We just need to get all these guys involved. The wins will come a plenty

Most people realize Shumpert will eventually take over for Fields at SG. Shumpert is an impact player on both ends. He has Igoudala potential where he will score, rebound, and create offense, plus become a all-nba defender. This is my hope for Shumpert 2-3 years down the road. Fields will hopefully become a great 6th or 7th man backing up Shumpert and Anthony. Not taking anything away from him, because people tend to do that. He's a major contributor on a championship team, just in a different role.

are you down on him? I think he's been playing pretty good no? Aside from getting destroyed by Rondo (he does that) he's been ok. He still takes too many of those Sprewell adreniline 3s but OK. Seems to me whenever Bibby comes in shots stop falling and that guy cant guard anyone at all. I believe vs Tor Douglas was +3 and Bibby -18. Yikes.. those #s dont always tell an accurate story but if you watched that game the Knicks were terrible when Douglas was off the floor.

The Shumpert/Igodala comparison is nice if it ever comes true. Shump reminds me of Raja Bell when he first came into the league. Obviously he's got talent... Im just looking forward to seeing how much.

gunsnewing @ 1/4/2012 11:14 AM
Fields to the bench is going to be nice as him and TD will get a chance to play against the other teams 2nd unit. The Knicks have been forced to give Walker extended, that will change. I hope baron can stay healthy especially for the playoff run. Definitely think he won't miss as much time as billups who is much older. Incase Baron does miss time I am fairly confident that Shump will be able to handle PG duties maybe even take over for baron or Nash in a few years. Regardless of coaching style I want to see more guard penetration, kick outs, fastbreaks and easier shots in general & more PnR with the bigs. Threes only when open not 1 on 1 chucking. If MDA can get them to play that way even if it means change his philosophy a bit, he will keep his job. The Knicks are actually playing Defense so anything is possible .

I think the problem with Douglas is he doesn't penetrate enough. I don't expect him to be the point guard b/c that isn't what he is. I think the role you feel is ideal for him. But he needs to penetrate more and not take so many of those Crawford/Sprewell/Zach Randolph 3s.

I think people need to stop expecting Shumpert to be a point guard as well. They are setting themselves up for dissapointment. The man has a score first mentality and he seems to be improving his shot. Why would anyone want him to be PG? That's dumb.

Agree 100%. Shumpert has a 2 guard body, plays like a 2, talks and walks like a 2. If he can somehow develop some lead guard skills fine, but ultimately he's a shooting guard, that defensively can guard 1, 2, and some 3s.

gunsnewing @ 1/4/2012 12:48 PM
I agree but shump has been a pg his whole life. Which is why I think if asked to be more of an orchestrator he can eventually run an offense built around Amare & melo. Much like Westbrook. Especially with his ability to create off the dribble, dish and defend the 1 or 2. With that said i rather have baron/felton at PG for years to come & Shump at the 2 his entire career. Maybe Nash for a year. Will be interesting to see how that plays out next year

Baron is still in a suit and Raymond Felton is not walking through that door anytime soon. And I dig Ray Felton.

No to Steve Nash.

Give Shumpert the keys. Play Lin as his backup.

Sink or swim.

gunsnewing @ 1/4/2012 1:01 PM
I think its too early to give shump the keys with no rookie or real training camp especially since baron should be on the court in a few weeks. Let shump get his feet wet at the 2 & continue to work on his shot selection. There will be times when both shump and TD are on the court with TD playing off the ball and shump creating. Can't hand shump full reign just yet imo.
nixluva @ 1/4/2012 1:35 PM
One reason to think about having Shump run some point is that it will calm him down in terms of jacking shots. He'll have to run plays for others 1st and that change of mental approach will be good for him I think. He doesn't have to do it full time, but slowly increasing his time a the point could be helpful for his development. I actually see more of D Wade in Shump than Raja Bell. Bell was never as fast and athletic as Shump. Bell has the lateral quickness and 3pt jumper, but not the same level of handle and finishing strong at the hoop that Shump has.
gunsnewing @ 1/4/2012 1:43 PM
not saying shump is gonna be anywhere nearly as good as wade but thats a pretty good comparison. Primarily because Wade is a SG who can penetrate at will and make his teammates better. Not with the.official PG label but a playmaker nonetheless
subzero0 @ 1/4/2012 1:43 PM
Shumpert has a sprained knee. I dont think he should be rushing back so soon. He's a young kid, maybe he feels pressured to produce and show what he can do, but by coming back so soon he may start to favor the knee and that could lead to further injuries in other areas. This Knicks rehab staff is notorious for rushing players back to the court even when they clearly are not ready to play. Ewing, Houston, Rice, Camby, McDyess... Shall I continue?
