you risk losing him forever if you do that though
I for one don't really care if he is lost forever. Improvement doesn't seem like it's coming. Is he all of a sudden gonna start hitting open shots? Or gain a better handle? Or gain some play making abilities? It's way too much coddling of Fields and TD. Sometimes u need to be insulted or benched. It's called accountability. That's why they chuck up so many bad shots cause they have no fear of consequences.
I'm not big on starting rookies out of the gate because it leads to problems later. Fields being a good example
Every Player is different. Shump will never have a confidence issue which is the major factor to the so called "Rookie Wall".
I know the Knicks have immediate considerations to address. But you try to put young professionals in a situation to succeed consistently.
If Shumpert is getting 30 minutes anyway, I say let him beat up on the opponent's second team. The Knicks need someone for that role anyway
So u don't mind us continually stinking it up to begin the game and bringing in our strongest guard when we are down double digits. That's the recipe for success? It's easier to sustain a lead then to come back from a deficit. I would understand your concept if one of our backcourt guys was strong...but with both TD and Fields stinking it up there is no excuse not to start Shumpert right now.

We're going to continue to disagree... you are trying to maximize the results of the next game. I am saying the Knicks should do what's best for Shumpert's career as I believe that that is what is best for the franchise. You bring in an experienced professional and throw him into the fire when expectations are high. Maybe you start Shump when he shows consistently that he is the best available option, but he hasn't done that yet because he hasn't even played 100 minutes yet

No I'm speaking long term as well. Better to get him through the growing pains early in the season since it's clear he is our best option at SG. I agree with u to certain extent but other rookies have started and relished the role or learned even more by experiencing the "rookie mistakes". We can't afford to have such a terrible starting backcourt. It's arguably the worst starting back court in the NBA. It's a disservice to the fans and to the frontline when u don't have one back court guy who can penetrate or create.

Iman is honestly the only person on this entire roster who can penetrate and create. It is a skill in super high demand given the offensive weakness of everyone not named Melo.

Exactly!

I have always been a major Fields supporter, but he looks bad right now. Shumpert is the SG of the future here so we might as well go ahead and let him be that right now. He just brings so much to the table on both ends. He gives the offensive spark that Crawford would have provided, plus he is our best perimeter defender. Fields either needs to find his role as a 6th or 7th man or will not last. I hope he can do that. I'm still extremely excited about this roster though. Melo, Stat, and Chandler will figure it out. Davis will help. And Shumpert is the major bright spot. He has major potential.

already we need changes.
That is not possible!

Shumpert is the best playmaker we have for the time being. So he will do it until a better one shows up (hopefully Baron Davis)
I dont think you hurt his development when asking him to set up the offense for a while.
I say keep Shumpert on the bench- he'd disrupt the offense as a starter a bit (he, Melo and Stat take a lot of shots), plus he gives us some scoring off the bench, and has less pressure with a reserve role too.
Fields, i'm losing patience with- it's been almost a year since he actually played well. See how he does a s a back up SF, but I'm not sure who you play at the starting 2.

First, Douglas may get a steal here and there, but he doesn't get in the offensive players jersey as Starks did.
Second, I see what you are saying about Shump on the offensive end, needing shots and all, but he's the only one who can dribble-drive into the paint, collapse the defense and create open looks for teammates. also, we need him at the start of the game moreso on the defensive end. He is a disrupter more than anything. Feilds struggles gaurding 2' and running ff picks. Shump can help our lethargic defense kick into gear when the game starts.
I wish Mike would just start Bibby and Shump in the backcourt and let Douglas come off the bench and play the 6th man role.
He can penetrate and looks faster than any knick. His shot selection is not refined.
Keep him progressing and establish himself.
If he can refine his game maybe he is a good to go this season.
He is a talent and worthy of an NBA career, but lets not get to ahead of ourselves.
He looks good on a team struggling to find its rythem.

This is a very good point. This team is still weak offensively outside of Melo and Stat. They only trust each other to score the basketball. Shumpert will change that.

You think Melo is "afraid"?
Melo has shown flashes of moving the ball. The team falls behind and we go into "Melo Show".
Team looked good when it implimented Chander and his 6 pts all on dunks in the first few minutes.
our Front line has not had that much time playing together.
This is going to take a while.

RT @FisolaNYDN: Iman Shumpert could start as early as Friday vs Wizards, Mike D'Antoni announces
Yup, Ian Begley on ESPN confirmed this as well:
New York Knicks rookie Iman Shumpert may have played his way into the starting lineup.Mike D'Antoni said on Thursday that he may insert Shumpert into the Knicks' starting five as early as Friday night's game at Washington.
"I think you do consider it," D'Antoni said. "Now, we'll see if we do it or not. He's obviously going to play a big part one way or the other and we'll just try to figure out the best way to go."
Shumpert has impressed coaches and veterans with his aggressive play. He is averaging 14.5 points, two assists and 4.5 rebounds in two games. He missed four games with a sprained right MCL but returned on Wednesday night against the Bobcats.
The 2011 first-round pick scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, pulled down five rebounds and handed out three assists in the Knicks' 118-110 loss.
Shumpert would likely start at shooting guard, taking Landry Fields' place in the lineup.
Fields established himself as one of the top rookies in the NBA in the first half of the 2010-2011 season. But he struggled mightily after the Knicks acquired Carmelo Anthony last February.
Through six games this season, Fields' play has been uneven at best.
He's averaging 9.5 points and three rebounds in 30 minutes per game. He has scored seven points or fewer in four of the Knicks ' six games.
New York has lost two straight at home at four of its last five. With Tyson Chandler in tow, they entered the season with lofty expectations but have struggled to play with any consistency on both ends of the floor. The team's mediocre record is one reason why D'Antoni may insert the 21-uear--old Shumpert into the starting lineup, despite a glaring lack of NBA experience.
"If you're 2-4 you consider a lot of things," D'Antoni said. "We're not having to stay pat just because our record is good. We'll consider it and talk about it and see what happens."
Hope this is true, the team and morale in general needs a change up.
