Knicks · The BIG Line Up! (page 1)

Man i'm happy about how the new starting lineup looks now. If Iman can keep improving this is finally a nice BIG lineup that i've always wanted to see the Knicks have. We have a matchup advantage in that we can defend just about any team without having to worry about not being big enough. PG's don't easily shoot over Shump and with the new Zone they just started using, it helps STAT, Melo and Landry against quicker guys, cuz they're is always help in shutting down any penetration. Guys aren't left out on an island and the PnR isn't hurting us like it was.

What a difference it makes when your PG isn't a Matador at the top of your defense!!! The Defense isn't constantly being broken down. You could really see how it effected teams with the size we put out there. Not quite the twin towers of the Lakers but pretty serious size even in the backcourt. All that length really had an impact in the passing lanes too.

Also it seems to have helped with the rebounding. STAT and Tyson can stay home and get all over the glass rather than having to stray far from the basket help defending. The more they can perfect this the better, but I liked how it looked.

Long live the BBC.

The last two games, the team looked best with Bibby and Shumpert in the back-court. (I'm not sure about Bibby long-term though.)

Defensively the team looks best with Landry IMO. Landry was a +29, he had 5 rebs, 2 asts & 2 stls. Bibby gave the team an offensive boost, which up til now Landry hasn't found his stroke. I have been encouraged by Landry's energy and hustle on the boards. He isn't hesitating like he was. I think his shot will come around. It's a good thing that Bibby has looked more spry and his shot was on, cuz with TD not producing, we need that guard off the bench who can knockdown the shot.

Excellent points Nix. Rebounds do improve when our bigs are in position. Their fouls go down as well. Our defense gets exponentially better with Shumpert because if/when opponents passing lanes are disrupted not due to gambling, but instead due to him staying with his man their offense gets disrupted to a much larger extent. This is somethin that I want to see against the elite teams. It's unbelievable how much it means taking not even 10, but even 7 seconds off of the shot clock when defending.

Fields looked a bit lax on the defensive end and unwilling to take his man on offense. He did seem to get into the flow of the game during the second half. We have seen most of Fields' work as a starter, and are hesitant to put him in the second unit. If his production and instincts don't show steady improvement, we will face that dilema when Baron comes and a decision has to made regarding who will play opposite him in the starting unit.

Those are good points. Defensively the team is worse with Bibby than Landry in.

I think it really has already started to happen for Landry. When you have a rhythm on offense, it allows him to do what he does best and that is fill in. He can attack the boards on shots, step out and take open 3's (which he'll start making), he can slash to the basket. This is his game. He's not a creator, but when things are going smoothly on offense, he can make heads up plays.

With a good PG, he's not exposed as he was with TD. Also when they have less standing around watching Melo go ISO, it makes a HUGE difference. The way they're sharing the ball now it gives Landry and chance to make the kind of plays he was before the trade. Constant Melo ISO like last year and the beginning of this year is bad offense. That's not what MDA wants.

I agree. Fields is not a creator however, in a good offensive flow he is very unselfish and can be very efficient. There is also no classier guy in the league and I am really rooting for him to do well.

Yeah you want Landry in a game with high activity. More often than not he'll make a smart play, the heady hustle play. Just don't ask him to stand around and think what am I gonna do, as we watch Melo go ISO all game. That style doesn't fit Landry. He'll be just fine as the season moves along.

Interesting that when we had Houston and Spree with JVG, he always called ISO's but it worked for that team. I guess either they did it better, were better built for it or they were better ISO players but it worked for that team. Don't always mind ISO's but to do that, you need them to have a good post game and have really good 3 pt shooters.
