It is just unbelievable to see poster here turn on STAT like he has done nothing to turn around this cellar dwelling franchise...STAT with the help of Felton were the main reasons the Knicks got to .500 and the playoffs last year... Sure he is off to a slow start..Most of it a product of not having a decent PG...Another is our brilliant coach that many of you love, wants him to be more of a jump shooter this year...I'm really not worried about what STAT will bring this season...I'm more worried about what consistency will happen in our backcourt going into the playoffs...I'm seeing postings that Bosh is better off a 12 game sample...Where were you last year...Do you guys think Bosh could have done what Amare has done for the Knicks...The greatest was the trade for KG proposal who is averaging around 13 and 7...Kick him while he is down and ride his jock when he gets back to form...True definition of fair weather fans!!!!...
At first I was turning on Amar'e, but now that I have thought about it, now that I have let the brain settle on some things, I realize this is all Melo.
Everything changed for Carmelo, and while he is a Very Special Max Contract Superstar, at what cost does he drop his ill-nasty numbers? At the cost of coherence, certitude, and chemistry.
Even Mike D'Antoni's legendary ill-nasty offense has taken many steps back since the arrival of the VSMCS.
It's like you are riding a bike and I put a stick in your wheels, but this stick is shiny, it is made of platinum or some other expensive metal, and then you fall off the bike and you sit there, bleeding, but you are captivated by the awesomeness of the stick.
Guys like Amar'e don't just fall of the map. There has to be some catalyst to this demise.
The simplest solution is usually best.
Carmelo Anthony.
I give credit to Amar'e because he strikes me as an honest, genuine fellow. But Carmelo, I liken him to the cheap whore you bring home to the parents, and she acts nice and puts on a good front, but then you are in the bedroom alone and she speaks ill of your family.

that is a brilliant analogy. you my friend are very creative.
but sure, let's blame Melo because iso-ball isn't working and pretend that Kobe doesn't iso. LeBron didn't iso in Cleveland (Lebron-ball). the fact of the matter is that iso-ball isn't the reason our offense is shitty. It's the lack of outside shooting that is primarily destroying the offense. With a superstar scorer/facilitator, you should be able to give them the ball consecutive possessions in stretches, and let them either score or draw the double team and feed a wide open shot.
Amare has disappeared. The spacing sucks. Shumpert and Douglas have been useless for the most part as off-ball players. That's why Melo has been chucking. Because a Melo shot is often the BEST shot right now.

this thread is definitely needed.
look, the comfort of the pre-Melo team was that we could all wait. it was not a NOW team. it was easier to deflect criticism because the team was still growing.
today's team is, without a doubt, a NOW team. no one wants to be patient with these guys. and, to a degree, i can see why these guys deserve less patience.
all that being said, i think what the Knicks have happening right now is a very complex and delicate chemistry experiment. they are playing with some explosive elements here. if they can find the right balance, this team will be VERY dangerous. if they can't, well, we'll be players in free agency again in 4 years.
the previous team was not as difficult to fuse. one superstar + a collection of complimentary pieces is an easier blend to manage. there is a clear alpha dog. everything just sorta falls in place.
this team needs work. but hey, they can actually practice this week. i expect progress.
it's never as bad or as good as it seems.

I don't know. I'm trying to understand why it works for LeBron and Kobe, but not Carmelo. What is the problem?
I will think on this, but I hope someone will fill in the blanks while my brain is working.
Some idea that crosses my brain at the moment is, perhaps, while Kobe and LeBron will iso, in the moments they will dish the rock are they maybe more skilled at making the correct pass?
All I know is that I don't feel secure with anybody but Melo handling the ball, which is a problem. STAT will dribble on his foot, TD will do whatever, Field's has a feel of negative urgency, Shump is triggerhappy, Billy can shoot or charge, Bibby couldn't cover Rick Brunson, Lin is practicing. I don't think it's Melo's ill nasty numbers that are hurting chemistry, it's the general guard play.
But it sure is hard to root for this team right now.

So this is like the famous drug, heroin. You start doing the dope and you no longer feel secure making your music without it.
It's funny how I trusted these same guys before the heroin came to my life.

The team was .500 last year. There is nothing good or bad about that. He got us to the point where the team did as well as it should have done by chance (if, for example, each game was decided by a coin flip instead of the players playing). You can't seriously use phrases like "turn around the team"

So Melo is like heroin now? The only guy, along with Tyson I suppose, to play up to expectations, if not better. The odd man out is STAT, and Melo isn't the one hurting his positioning, that's Tyson. When all is said and done, STAT has played horrendous this season. At least Melo tries on defense.
When we get a past first PG, I expect us to play coherently. Not when our PG's best qualities are shooting.
I desperately want STAT to succeed. When he starts doing so, Melo will pass the ball. This, I am 70% sure of.
Great points holfresh- in answer to your question, where were they last year, the answer is that they were ripping Gallo for his terrible poor shooting start and Raymond Felton who sucked for the first month ( I remember clearly people were saying he was terrible- I even said he was worse than Chris childs!). Turned out the both needed more than a month to get back on track and are now listed as gods by the people ripping amar'e and Melo.
I don't know what's worse, the lack of patience or the short term memory or the revisionist history!

Before Amare got here we were essentially a 28/30 win team with the players you guys are pining for in Denver...With Amare and Felton we got to .500...Amare played at a pace that was not sustainable...You and others are not being genuine thinking that it we had arrived to mediocrity...we had massive holes and was an 7-8 seed at best..And why can't I use the term turnaround, we are playing .500 ball now and you guys think it's the end of the world..Wouldn't you say expectations have changed a bit???

I am trying to understand why an 8+ year veteran and an established All-Star baller would shrivel like a cold-water penis, out of the blue!
The numbers Four and Three are neighbors, and I can hardly fault an otherwise dope-nasty baller for his inability to make nice with such a big intruder in his hood.
You're not putting Amar'e into the mix with a guard, you're putting him into the mix with a fellow forward. I can't tell you he is garbage simply because he has so far been unable to coexist with a guy that, to an extent, he overlaps with.
If anything it is on the greater talent, this is Melo, to make it work. The impetus is on Carmelo to make this thing work, it's not on Amar'e.
Wait so when Melo is injured Amare only scores 20 points and like 8 rebounds IN TWO games??? Our team goes down by 25 both games? Or when it's the fourth quarter and Melo is on the bench and Amare is out there we start to fall behind and can't score than everyone is begging for Melo to come back in. Or when we are down by 5 with 2 mins left who is the only one on the team that plays bully ball? Melo or Amare?

Heroin is one hell of a drug and the team was suffering what they call the "dope sickness".
Give it 10 games without Melo and see how Amar'e rolls.

LOL 10 games without MELO and we would be lucky to win one game... If Amare was putting up 20/10 than I might say we might have a chance. But Amare with Melo out doesn't even look like the best player on our team... 14/6 one game and 6/2 another??? Are you kidding me?

I am trying to understand the shriveling penis too. But why should a 8+ year veteran allstar have so much trouble playing with Melo? Can't see why Melo is at fault here. Melo is assisting more too.

The guy is affected. His brain is in turmoil, and this is because of the Melo intrusion.
No, I'm not kidding you, Amar'e would need some extended period of healing before he would regain his footing, before he would be clean and ready to ball like he used to.
The guy is human. They're all humans.
