Possibly might be 8 soon.
This is unacceptable.
Since 2001 - Jeff Van Gundy, Don Chaney, Herb Williams, Lenny Wilkens, Larry Brown, Isiah Thomas and Mike D'Antoni (currently).
In each case, the coach has had an agenda or was handcuffed by the front office or just plain sucked.
At some point, we have to get this right.
Good topic.
Calling for a coach's head does not solve the ills of the franchise.
JVG: Did a good job and was burnt out. I was not thrilled about bailing on the team but he was true to himself, and the team and that counts.
He knew the franchise was going down and his value would sink. He was loyal but also undestood the business.
Chaney: Did a very good job with what we had. The Dice thing had great potential but it was not ment to be. Layden to his credit was not starphucking out of panic and saving the assets. WE had picks and expirings. Firing chaney was a starphuch move by Isiah. He was not the problem, it was the roster.
Herb: Interm only.
Wilkens. He was the back up panic plan "B" to Fratello who wanted more money. Stupid way to hire a coach. He did a good job with what he got. He got Marbury. Enough said. Got paid well. Don't they all.
Larry: Was given a kings ransom sum to come in and coach a group of malcontent over priced players whose previous teams were all too willing to give away. Wrong players for the right coach, or wrong coach for the right players? Take your pick. Epic disaster season and demonstrated the full disfuncton of how bad a GM Isiah was.
Isiah: Took disfunction to a whole new level. Sextual harrassment charges in the back ground looming over the franchise. When a dog poops in the house you stick his nose in it thinking it teaches it a lesson. Not really a good teaching technique. The stench of roster with Marbury and Eddy who cost the franchise like 4 no. 1 picks and other considerations was the poop and Isiah had to coach it. Epic failure.
MDA: Bring in the best offensive coach in the game and ask him to perform miricles. First two years we cleaned the roster out like twice. Not a disaster as we player youth in year 2. Year three MDA gets Amare and after a slow start the team makes great progress. Not championship contenders by a long shot but enroute to make playoffs and fun to watch. We have draft picks, Donnie brings a culture of respect to the franchise and things are much much better. Until the Drama............
I wish we could re-hire either Chaney or Wilkens.
Unless the Knicks don’t make the playoff, I’m in favor of having MDA finish the season. Wait till the offseason, analyze the team’s need, the team’s roster and hire a coach accordingly.
That should be 11 coaches in 11 years. Any season that doesn't include a coach firing, preferably with max humiliation, is a wasted season.

You're kidding right? Out of all the candidates to dream over those are the ones you want?

Yes- because Chaney had his squad over-achieving, as opposed to this squad with MDA which, IMHO, is under-achieving.

Well being that Chaney is in such high demand, I don't know if we could get him
Before D'Antoni got here and has been here for four years now, it was 6 in 7 years. ugh.
The coaching gig is all about the right coach with the right players.
Or.....
The players adapting to the coach.
or.....
The coach adapting to the players.
Seems like the Knicks keep bringing in the wrong guy or the wrong players.
Without a point guard of quality you not going to maximize this rosters talent.
Asking Melo to make those around him better is not a good idea unless your team is so depleted you are FORCED to.
Maybe we need a coaching change but when fans are calling for it then its wrong.
This team needs a strong voice in management for the fans to react to.
If MDA is on the hot seat or not we don't know. Dolan with his management team is perfectly complient to not speak to the media.
Since we have no voice to the fans, we can speculate all we want.
Dolan runs this team so I suspect he is going to try to get Phil Jax even if it means losing MDA whom he may want to keep as plan "B".
Fans might applaud that but its plan "C" im worried about. I believe its Woodson cuz thats how Dolan roles. HE "Settled" for Chaney. "Settled" for Lenny, and "Settled" for Interm Herb.
I can see him "settling" for woodson until he could conjur up a starphuck name.
So maybe some of you get your wish. Coach Ewing.

I think it's been the same for 11 years. We think a coach will turn things around but he wont. We need to fix our roster. As much as we love Amar'e, he's officially a target when he's on defense, and it's killing us. Then on offense, he's suddenly playing with his head in his arse. Then you have Melo who will always have Melo and this is the core you have to build around. I will tell you, this has proved one thing to me, that I didn't realize at first.
Having a great defensive player who sucks at offense and pairing him with a great offensive player who sucks on defense does NOT work. I really thought it would and I thought it would make Amar'e a better defensive player, but it hasn't so far. If things don't change, then we need to make trades ASAP.

With this roster, it's going to make fans HATE Ewing again, and by hate, I mean it will get ugly.

But isn't part of the starphuck allure is a conspiracy? Like "Ewing and Howard like each other"?

At the time I never forgave Chaney for playing McDyess so many minutes in a preseason game, which led to him fracturing his knee, but nowadays I think the knicks medical/training staff were more to blame, as they cleared players to play when they clearly weren't recovered, and in fact Camby and McDyess criticised them after they had been traded.
IT really screwed him in the end- didn't he let Chaney know he was about to get fired by joking about it on some talk show? He then planned on hiring Mike Fratello, only he turned it down after the story had been leaked to the press. IT then had to scramble, and pick a coach in a couple of hours- went for Lenny, which was a huge mistake. What a way to run an organisation!

Dice broke his good knee I believe.
Sometimes SHIT just happens.
Looking back, if Dice don't get hurt, that team is very good.
Load on H20 was heavy and it wore him out.
Gotta blame someone right?
Blame it on the rain.
Flip gets canned, Wizards scapegoat with their lack of production and inconsistent play this year.
I think the Wizards actually have a lot of talent on their team but have been able to produce.
The players, need a change of scenario, and bring in players that can command the respect on the floor with veterans like KG for leadership.
On paper, their is talent on the team, mainly young players looking to produce stats for their future contracts.
They need to balance their roster, break their negative energy, and bring in positive players to influence their yoots on and off the court.
In the end, everyone wants their $, but the stat that matters most is the W, and sacrifices sometimes have to be made for talent vs leadership and an identity.
Grunfeld created a mess with the Wiz.
They empowered Wall way too quick. I agree they needed some Vet leadership and Blatch is not it.
I think New Ownership kind of jumped the gun thinking they could have a marketable young core while they "rebuilt".
Abe Polin had mixed success with his teams but insisted on high character guys. New owners enthralled with Wall's potential and gave him his star.
I guess we can add Flip to the list of new Knick coach's.
How about we give this coach a good PG or 2 and get out of his way? If Baron can find success it could be the missing link. We still need to find another good PG or develop Shump or Lin to the point where they can effectively back up Baron. It sounds overly simplistic until you look at the evidence of how bad this team has played in the past when there have been PG issues. Everyone knows and still choose to ignore that you must have at least a decent PG if you have D'Antoni.
He's not inept because of this, most coaches will fail if they don't have a capable PG but his style is even more dependent on having someone who can be the QB out there. It's a bit like needing an accurate QB that can read a defense in order to play the NFL West Coast offense. You couldn't stick Tim Tebow in that situation and expect him to succeed. He can't make the reads fast enough or make the passes accurately enough to make it work. So we've basically handcuffed MDA for all these years, knowing what he needs.
Just last year when we finally gave him a decent, NOT GREAT, but decent NBA PG, look what happened to the offense! With Felton as the PG, the Knicks were 2nd in scoring and 5th in Offensive Efficiency. That was a top 5 offense! Now we have a defense that is at least top half of the league, tho not perfect. If this team scored at it's usual rate, this team would no doubt be a winning club. Why change the coach when all it seems we need is to improve the roster at a couple of key spots?

I have not been part of the UK family for that long but I can already say that I missed your posts. Voice of reason / devils advocate.

Nope, it was definitely the same knee he had the patella injury with- I remember at the time it happened, some experts sais the knee cap can become weakened as a result- the bottom line was that he shouldn't of been playing 40mins or whatever it was, that soon. Looking back, I do think that the training/medical staff were poor in that era.
