Carmelo Anthony won't complain if Mike D'Antoni returns to coach the Knicks next season. Then again, Melo wouldn't mind if he had a new coach, either.Less than 24 hours after the Knicks were swept out of the playoffs by the Celtics, Anthony was noncommittal when discussing D'Antoni's future. Following an exit interview with D'Antoni and team president Donnie Walsh Monday in Greenburgh, Anthony said D'Antoni had earned his "respect."
But Melo hardly seemed concerned that a possible coaching change could stunt the Knicks' progress.
I support whatever decision is made," he added later. "If Mike is here, I got his back 100%. If Donnie's here I got his back 100%."Anthony's stance on D'Antoni could prove to be an important one, because he is planning to be heavily involved in personnel decisions this summer. He first mentioned that idea on Sunday and he reiterated it Monday, saying that since he and Amar'e Stoudemire are the "faces of the organization," they should play key roles in deciding its direction.
"Why not? I'm gonna be the guy they have to go out there and play with," Anthony said. "So why not have some input in who we want?"
Anthony wants to win now. He said the Knicks could be a 50-win team next season and said that being the "top team in the East" was his other key goal. He added that New York is now a prime destination for free agents. Much like Miami, standout players will sign with the Knicks for less to be part of a contender.
"You just hear it," he said. "You could be playing against guys (who say it). I mean everybody wants to play in New York right now."
But D'Antoni may not fit Anthony's vision. While Stoudemire referred to D'Antoni as "a phenomenal coach" and said he "had fun" playing for the offensive guru, Anthony could only praise D'Antoni's patience.
"I only can speak on when I got here," he said. "I think he's been very patient due to the circumstances. We came a long way, especially when I first got here, with the expectations being so high so quickly ... you've got to take your hat off to Mike for being able to handle a situation like that."
http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-04-...People see what they want to see. Nothing Melo SAID suggested he had turned against the coach. The author made whatever conjecture he saw fit.

What the media always looks to do is parse words and try to make some juicy story out of nothing. This is so thin as to be not even worth the time. I don't think Melo really cares about coaches. I don't think he gets excited about any coach. At this point its a non issue.
and while melo never says anything inflammatory, but he also never actually praises d'antoni. amar'e says MDA is a great coach, melo says "if mike is here, i got his back." next exactly a ringing endorsement.

Amare played for
for seven year Melo less than 5 months. You think they would have the same response? Why am I even discussing this? This thread and this forum is overrun with MDA haters who have abandoned reason in favor herd mentality. You will get your wish, another 15 years if 20 win seasons is right around the corner.

i don't think they should fire him in season and i'd like to see him turn it around here. if he can't turn it around, i think he should be replaced in the summer.
for me to say that i've observed melo doesn't really seem to back the coach, based on actual observations and following the team... i think that's just an observation, not mda hating. mda and melo RARELY talk on the court during games. melo clearly doesn't run his offense. there's obviously some friction there.

How do you even begin to really measure how much MDA talks to players and how do you guage if he talks to guys cuz he just likes them or if he talks to some guys a lot cuz they're messing up and he's coaching them? I can't say that I see him talking to Tyson, does that mean he has issues with him? Do we go down the roster and try to judge his relationship with each player based on how much they talk on the court? I'm just not buying this rumor yet without some concrete evidence that there's some kind of issue.
MDA literally made Melo a major part of the offense this year. Placing a HUGE level of responsibility on his shoulders. How would that indicate an issue from D'Antoni's side towards Melo and why would Melo not like the trust MDA put in him? You would think MDA would favor STAT and make the offense run thru him if there was an issue with Melo.
Melo might be taking a lower key approach to supporting Mike because, lets be honest, he could get fired. And I don't think you want to be out there in a situation where you've backed the guy that got fired.
However, I will say this- I liked MDA trying to get the offense to run through Melo- I'm not sure if its failed because it was doomed from the start, if Melo is hurt or simply he isn't wired that way.
But, when guys talk about Melo not being a winner, being selfish - he did lead Syracuse to a national title - and that isn't easy and he did it young.
We should fire Mike not for any fault, but simply because things, for whatever reason, aren't working out, and a new voice might help.
Despite being 6 games under 500, I think this team right now is close to losing the season.
Other teams have turned it around - I think Dallas had a really slow start, and they've won some games.
But, this team hasn't really shown anything. They've been glimpses of being a good team- but not any one stretch.
And being competitive because you've gotten hot from outside is not sustainable!
1. that we've changed coaches too much a decade to half a decade ago so we can't do it again.
2. MDA is an offensive genius and our defense is good.
3. Various excuses for non performance but little in the way of examples of his positive influence.
It's hypocritical that you accuse others of herd mentality btw.
Anyway, this thread is irrelevant. PLayers almost never bash a coach even one that is about to get canned. Hell even with sucessful coaches we read all last year what a great coach Rex Ryan was and all NFL players wanted to play for him. Then a bunch of Jets leave for free agency and this season he doesn't have a clue on the turmoil within the team and players suggest he should tone it down.
And it's not a popularity contest anyway. We need results. I could care less if players like or don't like a coach as long as he's able to get the most out of the team.
