Knicks · how about Melo for Deron Williams? (page 1)

fishmike @ 1/31/2012 7:21 AM
Nets get a star who is signed and wont bolt. Knicks after 60ish game should realize Melo+Amare is a lousy fit and Knicks need a stud PG
misterearl @ 1/31/2012 7:26 AM
Forensic Evidence Is A Bitch

fishmike - Dolan will NEVER admit the Denver trade was a mistake. His fingerprints are all over it.

Nice wish. Never happens.

Knixkik @ 1/31/2012 7:43 AM
No because Melo and Nash > Williams and anyone they could get to replace Melo.
franco12 @ 1/31/2012 8:09 AM
Straight up, we'd be overpaying, based on what was traded in the respective and potential deals.

But - I think I would do that straight up if I could, maybe ask for a first rounder to see if I could get it.

misterearl @ 1/31/2012 8:14 AM
Get Real

franco12 - why does Mikhail Prokhorov approve this deal, AND throw in a first round draft pick?

I doubt he does either.

But - straight up, he is getting a star from Brooklyn who is signed, who he was going to pay more for to get from Denver.

Deron had to be publicly chided about moping, and may not be there long term.

I think Melo's time here can be explained as a bad fit, and by building around him in Denver, you can complement him better from day one, as opposed to trying to make things work here with another star and system that he never fit with from the start.

Nash plays for the Suns. Not sure you knew that

franco12 - do you really think Dolan can get away with painting any trade of Carmelo as a "bad fit"?

Does that explanation get a pass from the ticket buyers who invested with higher seat prices, the media who second-guessed the trade and MSG public address announcer who trumpeted the arrival of Carmelo Anthony?

The Knicks cannot trade Carmelo Anthony for the simple reason it broadcasts a bright Bat Signal to all of Gotham City for all to see,

"We do not know what the hell we are doing"

masud @ 1/31/2012 8:50 AM
I wish. Never gonna happen though. Deron with Stat and Tyson to pass to would be bonkers.

Does the franchise lose credibility in admitting to such a huge mistake?

I don't think Dolan gives a crap. He is going to do what he wants to do.

I do agree, I think, with you that I highly doubt Grunwald is going to even explore this kind of trade.

But, I agree with fish - it would be a damn good one, and I would do it in a second.

Knicks can trade Melo just fine... whats he done here? We are -.500 with him, still havent won a playoff game either. So far he's on the Marbury track for success

Call me stupid, but I think this can still work out.

I think MDA is a terrible fit for this roster.

Injuries aside, we've underperformed.

Now, Melo is a volume chucker, but can be really good, if harnessed.

But, I was with you then - bad trade. And I don't think our ceiling is very high with Melo & the right coach, whoever that might be.

I love Deron Williams, and a smart organization would recognize its mistake and move before its too late.

Your Marbury analogy is solid.

But we lack a smart organization - its just Dolan and a bunch of yes boys.

If Melo jersey sales slow down, this might happen.

My trade proposal a week ago was Williams and M. Brooks for Melo. Why does Prokhorov do this? Because the alternative is to have nothing, to have Deron Walk. Now a team may be able to come up with a trade, but seriously, who can touch our trade?

I don't do this trade for Williams only, as others said Melo can get us more. So, we get Brooks in the deal as well. Again, NJ is in danger of losing Williams for nothing.

And, Melo was going to sign with Jersey anyway if things didn't work out here. I don't see him being heartbroken and frankly, I've seen enough of his low IQ play - 50 games is telling.

I think the Russian will do this. He needs a headliner for Brooklyn and lets face it, Melo is a bigger headliner than Deron. Melo and TD for Deron, Brooks and their 1st rounder. I think they do this. The Russian can show that he can get what he wants albeit a year later.
holfresh @ 1/31/2012 10:23 AM
Hey, I got an idea, How are we fire the coach..That would save us from at least ten 5-30 nights from the three..That's got to be worth 6 to 7 games over the span of 82 games...

Lol..that's been evident for the longest while

I'm now hoping we trade the entire team, get Deron and Dolan moves the franchise to the Turkish league. Where Dantoni will then be summarily executed for being a pseudo-Italian.

We are then a shoe-in for a first round bye in the playoffs.

But we lack a smart organization - its just Dolan and a bunch of yes boys.

A SMART organization (like the NFL Giants for example) would be patient. A smart organization would realize this team is a floor general away from competing for a title.

After 60ish games Im thinking that Amare and Melo should not be on the same team. Neither do anything of real impact to help you win when they dont have the ball. One guy is a total iso player (Melo) the other is a P&R guy. Both great players, both have played 7+ years in the league playing very different styles and neither is doing a good job changing.

I still think thats a bit of a rush judgement and that this group simply lacks a floor general and a leader. Its not Shumpert who picked up where he left off in college. He's got a much better future at the 2 than at the 1.

The reality is we need Baron Davis to turn this season around, because these players dont have it in them to make such big changes overnight.

Melo is a star scorer, but he also makes the other 4 guys useless because they stand and watch him pound the rock 20x a night. The one game we won dude scored 1 point!

The coach hasnt done anything impressive here, but this is not a good mix of players right now, and lets face it... if this group is going to work and we are going to get a good PG we need this coach in here. Who's coming here to play PG for a discount? Nash? Not to play for Mike Woodson he's not.

mrKnickShot @ 1/31/2012 11:49 AM
Duh! of course we make this trade - at least I would.
